oh btw if you want a souvenir ..sit on the front rows of the flanks on the left side as you kick out.. They did a drill early on where the incoming was switched across.. I nearly had a full time job retrieving the sherrin for a whiles ..lol

Gotta tighten that kicking guys !!

I have seen 6 preseason sessions and read reports from all the others. I am getting a bit worried about out kicking efficiency when coming inside 50. Every training report from a whole range of different Demonlanders is reporting the same thing.

Are any of the coaches specific skills coaches?

Should we make this more of an emphasis between now and round 1?

Surely we cannot settle for Bail, Nicho, Blease etc.. to constantly miss a forward structure that might actually be able to produce?

I also agree about Fitzy. Both he and Spencer have trained really well. Fitzy's one clunk marking has been great to watch and it will be interesting to see how he fits into the NAB cup rotations. He has others ahead of him (Jamar, Spencer, Pederson, maybe even Gillies) but his pace and marking ability create match-up headaches for others.

Didn't you see any of the first 10 games or so last year Maldon? It is quite simple, you kick it in to the forward line and Mitch Clark marks. It doesn't have to hit him on a lead, just kick it to the pack that Mitch is within a 15m radius of.

I said it last year, the first thing we need our players to do is understand when to kick it with your "wrong" foot. If we can improve that this year, it will reduce our turnovers by foot remarkably.

We're talking about a notional spoon side (outside of the development clubs) and supporters are "worried" by some skill errors ? What did you expect ? If you watch Collingwood train you'll see similar mistakes on occasion. It happens when you're watching 35 players on a list run around and not all will make it. Watch Viney, Jones, Toumpas deliver it to the forwards and they don't miss a beat.

Also, I don't share the joy with Fitzpatrick. He's a battler of the highest order. If we're pinning our hopes on him it will be a long season.

Funny you say that. I wandered over and espied the filth for a while . Definitely sharper.

Yes they fumbled and sprayed.. More the exception than our lot.

Just saying.

Yes were better.. A lil way to go yet .....

As you'd expect.

we arent that close ; as a team of skilled players; as i was hoping.

Another season snd preseason might see that gap negated.

Thanks for the reports BB

I'd just like to add that skill level this time of year is nothing to get too excited over - if it's round 3 and players are continully missing targets I'll start to worry then.

We shouldn't be close. Although I have to say it's ridiculous to determine team's respective fortunes on one training session.

If they go by what AFL coaches want the answer is never.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
