Or would you want your son to be playing more recently for the Toigs sleeping in with a mate and missing a training session? (BTW don't expect any of this to be covered by The Shrew in commentary)

Would you let your son or daughter become an AFL official so that they could turn a blind eye to the activity of some clubs and pick on others? We know what that means?

Would you allow your daughter to become a journalist and make prejudicial comments about the guilt of others before an investigation is completed? To pick on people she might be running a vendetta against?

I've got her pegged. A good journalist at times when it comes to gathering facts but when she does "comment", she's all over the place and not particularly logical or smart.

This is where governance is not understood. Clearly a CEO needs to know what's going on but he shouldn't meddle in footy department decisions like recruiting selections, team selections, player evaluation or training schedules.

This is precisely why the choice of the previous CEO by the former board was such a disaster (Jonathan Brown indeed) and why his dismissal by the Stynes Board was such an important move at the time.

If CS "meddled" in 2011 then he possibly did the wrong thing at the time but that, like the McNamee fiasco, is a thing of the past. Since the overhaul carried out after Dean Bailey's departure, we have a new football department and things seem to be working very well on all levels from administration to our core business as demonstrated last night. Now we need to get the results on the field but with the third least experienced list, its not going to happen overnight.

I agree that we need to go past this "tanking" situation which has been going on for an obscenely long time and which IMO has been handled appallingly by the AFL.

I have this uncomfortable feeling that the Essendon fiasco makes it harder for the AFL to let us off the hook.

They now have multiple cases building up pressure to sort out the league problems.

I don't mind reading that. It hopefully ups the ante with the AFL. "Go down the path of charging for bringing the game into disrepute and these could be the consequences and you can bet that the MFC are not going to allow the jeopardising of millions of dollars of revenue by rolling over and accepting these charges".

To those advocating we negotiate out a penalty. The single admission of guilt brings with it potentially huge ramifications outside what the AFL can do to us.

Agree. The Essendon thing impacts us. The AFL will likely now want to be seen to be heavy handed now that several of it's 'pupils' have gotten 'out of line'.

I agree but I do like to see ramifications outside what the AFL can do highlighted. I have seen AD having breakfast at Georgios in Malvern a couple of times by himself and he was studying the sports sections of the paper. I would like to think that he reads that and ponders that his "company's" disproportionate handling and ultimate decision could cost one of his stakeholders 10 million dollars in revenue.

Disagree. They have the game's image to look after and that is paramount in both cases.

With us, they have plausible deniability. "It might have looked like tanking but they broke no rules and were basically not very good."

With this Essendrugs thing, assuming there's fire amid all the smoke, it could bring the game into disrepute beyond anyone's wildest dreams.

One example: GWS. They've been shocked at how quickly the new soccer club has pulled the rug out from under them. Now their work to attract kids is much harder. Then along comes an adverse drugs finding ... "GWS ... aren't they the ones all on drugs? I remember seeing on the telly that AFL players are all on drugs. No son, you can't play that sport."

I see your point OD however i also have a comforting feeling from the confidant and calm manner in which McLardy and Co have addressed the tanking investigation. As opposed to the Adelaide officials with the Kurt Tippet saga and the Bombers officials the other day.

The AFL might try to make an example of us however i also believe they know that if they do we are heading to court and an area where the AFL no longer hold the power...
