Dayle Garlett

Just IF, Garlett straightened up, and started playing good footy. Enough to kick 2-3 goals a game and excite the crowd and the team into a football adrenelin rush.

99percent of our team are hard-nosed diciplined footballers, we can allow ourselves the 1percent wonder. We don't need to be so one-dimensional.

The Bommbers have found themselves a beauty. If they can teach him, they are a stronger club than us. Maybe we don't back our ability to nuture talented yet 'wild' youth.

Take the chance, if he does not suit, we can quickly delist and make an example of him. We can turn a negative into a positive. We should take the chance.

Anyone else just see the news.com.au headline and fill their pants.

"Grimes floored again by injury". Was massively relieved it was his brother Dylan.

Me too, especially when it was moved into Demons news about our new signings.

Cheers for the reply u might be right but I think it would be a good gamble

Neeld is going down the Sydney road no d:/kheads at the club

It obviously did them no good, wait a minute didn't they win this years premiership. That policy mustn't work then????

Absolute rubbish the whole post but in particular the bit about the bombers, for a start they haven't committed to him and for a second the name Andrew Lovett mean anything to you, another rookie pick they took a chance on. Only arrogance would have Hird take this one on, Voss thought he could do it with Fev lets see if Buckley is so stupid to find one as well.

IF is a big word, let him prove himself first.

5 pages now....as it relates to the MFC.....of wasted discussion.

Sorry to add to it again but I think you are probably right. Not sure why I'm wasting my time.

Go read the 4 pillars thread and you'll see why he's not for us, he only meets one requirement.

The harm could be a lot, keep banging on with nonsense all you want but he won't be in red and blue next year, not gonna happen. I don't understand where you lot get the idea that we have a culture strong enough to pull blokes like Garlett into line, we haven't even got there with Sylvia yet.

Settle down u [censored] .Will take the best player available if it was me picking someone for a rookie spot I'd take dyson from the don can run and carry ok will delievery. All I was saying that Neeld would have him in a vice like grip compared to other coaches in the past

And it might pay off. the dons are going to take him anyway if not eagles will swoop

"He told me as he left, 'if I have another 12 months at Swans, I just have to be the best player at the club'," football manager Phil Smart said.

Can't you see 'Bif', he just doesn't get it. Everyone knows he can play football, the point is they don't know if he is capable of pulling his head in and making it as an AFL footballer.

I'm a bit old fashioned . I like them to be good at football first and then watch them become"company men" later . You cant take an"athlete" and turn them into a good player by wishing it .

Besides being in Bran Nue Dae and being somewhat of a social being, and a popular one , I cant see his criminal actions listed anywhere.

Like me , he will have to fight the injustice and prejudice that comes with being good-looking and popular.

Dayle , there is help out there . Stay cool.

A common thread in all Neeld's recruits at Melb has been the players hunger for the work required to be a player in the AFL. I don't get the impression that Dayle is hungry, it seems he is more expectant and complacent that his natural talents are enough for him to get through.

Perhaps a strong culture can teach him about the value of hard work and dedication, or perhaps he becomes another distracting self indulgent player who is taking the place of a truly dedicated rookie who will grow and add value to the team (a player like a young Aaron Davey).

I'm certainly not interested in players who provide the media with another reason to beat up on the MFC when the footy news is a bit slow.

That said, I'd love it if we picked him up and had a crack at getting him right for the AFL.

That's gold!

You're a national treasure, tonatopia.

I had no idea that having a team full of hungry competitive players made them "one dimensional".

That's one dimension I'd be aiming for above all else.

What a monumental waste of talent.

Mate, the Hawks have 2 of them, Buddy and Cyril.

We had 4 of them, Farmer, Wona, Jurrah and Davey

Swans have Jetta

GC have Bennell

Pies had L.Davis

and so on.

The Game needs the brilliance of instinctual indegenous footballs. 1 per side can only help. Why deprive ourselves and our children from experiencing the most wonderful footballers in the land.

If we don't select Garlett, and he turns out to be a success, I will be spuing. Another Darling bites the dust.

I'd be gutted.

We must learn from our mistakes, based on the bullshite notion that if you like to party, you can't play footy. Its just crap.

Didn't know Darling was indigenous, always thought Davey, Jetta and Barry were so we have at least one.

i would hazard a guess that the darling reference was in relation to a pang of regret over what we might be missing out on.

Having said that i would rather take a 7/10 talent with a 9/10 mindset over a kid with 9/10talent and a 2/10 mindset.

Hard work beats talent when talent refuses to work hard.

Too good too early, never developed a work ethic...such a waste

How about a 10/10 talent and he is just 17. Give the kid a chance.

Book him onto the next season of jersey shore and let him party as much as he wants.

If he was serious about his footy then he would of at least waited until he got drafted before putting pics of himself pinging like a nutter on the net.

He is obviously to dumb or too arrogant to think the rules apply to him and either way is not someone i want hanging around my footy club

Unbelievably, I find myself agreeing with Tonatopia on this topic. People are writing this young boy off as though he's already had umpteen chances a la Fev, Cousins etc ... It's ridiculous.

Read him the riot act, put him on a one-strike rule and then leave it up to him. One stuff up and he's out.

How does that hurt the club?

If taking such a "risk" means we have the next Cyril Rioli on our hands (quite possible given his talent) I don't think we are in a position as a club to knock back that kind of talent.

Photo taken days out of AFL draft having a smoke and can and ppl question why he wasn't picked up.

If he was half serious about having an AFL career, he wouldn't be doing either of those two things.

The size of his pupils says it all, DC.

Red eye or not the evidence is clear and the caption apt.

21 pages and counting over at B-Blitz ... http://www.bomberbli...ic=66319&st=300

Is that right that we don't have a pick on the PSD in 2013? If so, I don't like our chances of getting him. Reckon a club will take a punt on him in that.

We could just take him in the rookie draft at pick #3 prior to the PSD

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
