If ever you wanted an example in our club of a footballer viewed as a striking example of the qualities required to be professional, look no further than Tom McDonald.

Have a read of this and tell me you didn't bristle with a tad of subdued excitement..:

Wonder if he laughs in the gym too much

BP and the recruiters have copped plenty of whack here, but I think this is one pick they can hold their heads up with. He's determination and working hard at the club to improve in areas whilst others were away shouldn't be dismissed.

Looking forward to him giving Reiwoldt another bath this year. Quietly confident he'll add a few more scalps as well.

Rawlings must work hard on his rebounding and make sure his possessions count. His clangers last year were a by-product of a lack of confidence or probably more composure.

Very happy to hear him talk about wanting to add the weight/muscle bulk but still remain fleet footed. He's got a big frame, big tank and long arms and has tremendous potential to be a real key defender fo many years to come.

Also I think it should be mentioned that the new coaching group should be given a fair amount of credit for the development of young Tom. Looking forward to another big step forward this next season.

I always have had a soft spot for those who may not at first appear blessed with super ability but give it a real crack.

Tom is smart and hard working. I bet the coaches love working with him.

Originally, I thought Rotten Ronnie's had released a new burger when I first saw the title of this thread!

We need to build up the midfield and the forward line but I am liking the look of our backline. McDonald, Frawley, Watts and Garland are all quality and great to see Tom doing the extra work required!

Hope he learns to kick. Could make him a real find.

Oh, he can't kick - at all?

His kicking needs to improve, no doubt . He is already a real find justified by his 3rd placing in the BnF.

Give him a break.

Good future that boy. Also saw him walk past last night on the gound at Etihad prior to he start of the Coldplay concert, so was glad to hear that he fronted up to training today. At the pace he was walking, I'd say he's in for a good season. ^_^ Wish someone had handballed him a footy and said "go son"

Tom needs to work on his disposal and decision-making. The latter i expect to improve as he gains more experience, should he be able to really improve his disposal, then he would just about be the next up and coming back-man in the league. Get him into the gym over the enxt few seaons to really build a body and strength to go with his tank, he could be anything!

We've had could've been anythings' before, lets see how Mark Neeld goes with such players!

I think come the start of the coming season, you will be surprised at how well he has already built himself up. He's pretty determined. He's also smart enough to not over do it and risk injury.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
