Col Sylvia in 2013

After reading the training reports my flicker of hope is currently on life support!

Why? Cause some nuff nuff (no disrespect intended) said he looked like he was just focusing on getting things done, not "training the house down?"

I would only worry about the training reports if I knew the personal program Misson has him on, same with Davey. We don't know what they are required to be doing at this stage of the season and both have a history with injury.

let's hope they are both tuned and ready to go round one 2013, not pre season 2012.

No, because Col seemed to find some form toward the end of last season and I had high hopes he'd take that into this pre season, but, alas, from the "reporters" he appears to be on a restricted program.

Ok, I'm skeptical but here's hoping!

I think the biggest problem with Col is that he's never had an opportunity to enjoy his footy. I think that if he can get a free run at things at the start of next year and get in to some good form playing in a side that's (hopefully) competitive with the rest of the comp, his attitude and training will improve as a result.

Still a few few 'if's' in there though i guess

What a stupid comment.

Col has a lot to do in terms of upping his commitment to being a professional footballer. It's not good hearing that he is swanning around training when you hear what is happening with Nicho, Howe, Jones etc.

Unfortunately he plays like he trains and that ain't consistent or good.

My observations of Sylvia over the 3 Casey sessions I have seen, is that he is on a modified training program. Mainly running and handball skills. He does look very fit already.

Chocko Royal was gathering a group together for some close in work and Sylvia was standing nearby. Chocko asked him whether he is "in on this one" and he replied no.

He did a lot of running with Grimes and others last week on the other oval. To me, he seems to be allowed to do some extra work if he wants once he has done his allocated workload. I think they are just making sure he gets through the pre-season uninjured. I guess we'll see over the next few weeks.

One thing is for sure, the conditioning guys are all over the players making sure they do exactly what has been allocated to them. Players were even asking if it was OK to have a few shots on goal. The answer came back "I'd rather you didn't". They even chip the players if they decide to climb over the fence onto the ground rather than walk throught the gate!

I'd hope Col was on a path to be cherry ripe for Rd 1, and any "slackness" is part of this program, rather than the result of any character flaws as some on hear like to assume.

May be time for us to sit back and appreciate that Col, like most of our players, is doing his honest best to improve, and recognise a propensity to have a laugh does not equate to slacking off.

Id like to think this...i really would.

i just keep returning to Leopards and spots.

He could tear games apart. He could, but never has. If he participates he does, if he doesnt ,he doesnt. Ive really gone past caring about this guy.

Already wasted way too many words on this bloke. Fortunately there ARE others on the list ( NOW ) who will take his place at a second's opportunity.

Out of contract and unrestricted free agrent - if he's ever going to have a "breakout year" it's this year.

I sometimes wonder if all theses sports sience blokes know what they are doing......Permission to have a few shots at goal??????....I would have thought that it was complusary....

Trapper got traded by about this stage of his career as well. Just saying.

No free agency back then

CS will either stay at the Dees ( I doubt it ) or walk to wherever he pleases and the MFC will get nil.

He better deliver. I don't want another Travis Johnstone situation, where he was all potential, on our hands! PLEASE COL!

Nothing is complusary these days...

If he has a massive year he could set himself up for a Goddard-like deal. He's really got one chance at it.

Was it ever??

Great. At another club!!@%$#&^%@?????

If he has a massive year our midfield will finally look like a midfield and the team's fortunes will improve enormously. If he has a massive year he would stay......surely?

Colin should have two KPI's between now and March 30:

1. Don't get pist and suspended by the club for the 5th time in 6 years.

2. Don't get smashed by any hairy opposition Centre Half Forwards.

Then we'll see what he can do.

Personally I gave up hoping and wishing for Sylvia to come good years ago. All that energy has now been transferred to Watts. I just expect to be eternally disappointed in Sylvia. Anything else would be a pleasant surprise.

The best thing that could happen to 'young Col' in 2013 is that he might actually have to fight for a spot in the starting 22.

No longer a walk up start is on the cards.

Surely Col wont leave us when he becomes a free agent .

He's had the time of his life and a wasted youth with us but he just may be able to fluke himself a flag one day now we are a footy team again .

He is well overdue for a B and F or close to .

He knows it ,we know it .

The one cent piece is descending I would think.

This thread comes up every year, when will Col explode?

In the 8 or so years he has played AFL,he has been a just average footballer with a couple of spike games a year,a la Daniel Wells and Kozi.

Below is how Col's season pans out every year, from 1 to 10.

3,3,4,3,5,4,8,4,5,3,6,4,5,8,3,5,4,3,7,2,4,5

Stop thinking he can/will produce the 8's week in,week out!!!!

Guys,he's a 5 out of 10 footballer and has 8 or so seasons as proof.

Well lets just hope self interest gets him interested, someone needs to whisper in his ear have a break out season and your price tag goes up. We get the benefit of at least one good year out of him, and hopefully get decent compensation for him going, and he gets a new club where he can return to a mediocre playing style. Win win situation.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
