FAREWELL CALE MORTON

he had a good season? when was that?

2008-2009. I think that a lot of people forget the promise that he showed in those first couple of years. Sadly, it has been downhill since then.

He is a talented guy but we didn't get the best out of him and he didn't get the best out of himself. Also sad is the fact that he is not alone in this regard.

Guest José Mourinho

Who are all of these clowns that join up on this site and immediately start slagging off our players? It seems you only register to put the boot in...

They'd be the same ones who get routinely banned for that sort of behaviour...

That picture could be anyone. I don't remember Cale's legs being that big.

I think the vic state gov is funding a search for Mortons in the high country - are the local stories true about mysterious mortons wondering the bush or is a myth?

I must be one of the few that would be disappointed to see Morton go. Morton would be a very good player in a good side so I am hoping that he will click as Melb starts moving back up the ladder

Nope not alone as frustrating as he has been its hard not to imagine our talented players such as morton, sylvia and watts to name a few playing at clubs like Sydney collingwood and Geelong think most (not all) of them would be good to very good players maybe even stars.

Hope we keep Morton (and Gysberts) and they develope into the players we need/hope

Maybe we could get a deal done to get Ray to Melbourne. Maybe we trade morton to eagles for both their remaining picks (from this thread it seems 41 and 46?) we send one of these picks to St Kilda for Ray. Means we have another pick to send to kangaroos for Pederson too. I think we are getting paid 'unders' if that is possible. Morton is a no. 4 pick and has shown something without setting the world on fire so hopefully they give us a player with a draft pick?

Yeah, I've had enough with the Morton bashing, people. Seriously, we know.

No.4 pick, didn't live up to the (read: 'our') hype. Showed very promising early signs, then stagnated. Couldn't put on muscle. Confidence sagged.

But who knows, maybe at the Eagles he'll have a 'Steven Armstrong' run, best of luck to him.

One thing definitely not needed is more people hanging [censored] on him all day. Getting as boring as the 'Prendergast screwed us' threads.

I'm sure this must have been posted before:

The Puzzling Case of Cale Morton

I really am surprised at the apathy - joy even - that I am seeing in this thread. There is no question after his first 2 years he looked like a real goer, when he had 40 out of a possible 44 games to his name. Everyone seems to have forgotten he racked up 97 disposals in 3 weeks in the middle of 2009, and rounded out year with a very healthy average of 23 per game, in a side that got back-to-back spoons. He also showed aptitude as a player inside 50 at both ends of the ground. He then copped a big injury in a praccy match at the start of '10. As mentioned in the article, he has hard a hard set of circumstances so far in his career - what is not mentioned is that he has also had a number of injury problems. The guy is still only 22, that is nothing - there are 15 others between 21 and 23 on the list, by my count at least half of them have done less damage on-field than Cale has. We are trying to develop a unit and his a pick#4 with 5 years experience, he should be persevered with. It would be very poor of us to let him go now, not yet.

I think Neeld will accept anything to get rid of Morton and avoid having to pay the last year of his salary.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him traded for pick 61 which we might just use to upgrade Nicholson.

Or perhaps we could do Morton and 58 for their pick 44?

Having said that I agree with some posters in that if anyone can get anything out of Morton it will be as a 7-8th string midfielder at WC on the wide open spaces of subiaco.

One thing in Morton's favour is that he is drinking the coolade. He's repeatedly backed the new coaching philosophy and said that he thinks they can help him get his game to where it needs to be. There are other players on the list who perhaps don't buy in with the same enthusiasm who may find themselves ahead of him when it comes time to trim the list.

I can confirm Cale is attempting to go to the Weagles

Cale in Perth

Asked how he was going, he replied "fingers crossed and see how we go."

I can confirm you have posted one grainy, inconclusive photo with a perfectly made up claim that will maximise attention.

Well done, troll. Mission accomplished.

2024 Player Reviews: #3 Christian Salem

The luckless Salem suffered a hamstring injury against the Lions early in the season and, after missing a number of games, he was never at his best. He was also inconvenienced by minor niggles later in the season. This was a blow for the club that sorely needed him to fill gaps in the midfield at times as well as to do his best work in defence. Lack of preparation after a problematic preseason prevented Oliver from reaching the high standards set before last year’s hamstring woes. BLOODY BLUES by Meggs

The conclusion to Narrm’s home and away season was the inevitable let down by the bloody Blues  who meekly capitulated to the Bombers.   The 2024 season fixture handicapped the Demons chances from the get-go with Port Adelaide, Brisbane and Essendon advantaged with enough gimme games to ensure a tough road to the finals, especially after a slew of early season injuries to star players cost wins and percentage.     As we strode confidently through the gates of Prin

Melbourne’s most important player who dominated the first half of the season until his untimely injury in the Kings Birthday clash put an end to his season. At the time, he was on his way to many personal honours and the club in strong finals contention. When the season did end for Melbourne and Petracca was slowly recovering, he was engulfed in controversy about a possible move of clubs amid claims about his treatment by the club in the immediate aftermath of his injury.
