Would you agree that Dunn, Bail and Spencer are pretty safe?

And that our fringies would be:

Bate - midfield experiement failed

Gysberts - has raw talent and got 29 disposals in one of his first games but injury has taken a tole or is there something more?

Sellar - tall utility that hasnt exactly set the world on fire with the potential arrival of a number of new talls

Morton - nuf said previously

Davis - seems ok but there are queries

Couch - struggled to break in

Cook - another key position pick up that hasnt panned out

Martin - has done some good things, but appears set for a trade given that Spencer is rated by Neeld and Pederson/Dawes are coming our way?

Sheahan - delisted? Thought he looked alright myself...

Moloney - gawn

Reckon these blokes might all be on the outter?

Consider what we have brought in to the club and what our needs are going forward - speed, spread ?? Dunn locking down a position in defense when rivers went forward seems like about the only safe player for 2013??

Funny thing about our lack of speed is that a couple of years ago when we thrashed the Swans, we were all speed all the time. As the commentators said, Jetta was the only player on the ground for the Swans who could match the pace of anyone in our side. Where did it all go? How did we manage to misplace what looked like the premier up and coming running unit in the AFL? Even looking at the list above, only Martin and Morton offer real speed in that group. Gysberts has repeatedly been noted as needing to work on his outside running to complement his inside work. I just don't get it.

Sellar isnt on the fringe.

The rest in the next 1-3 years will either be at another club or not playing AFL

agree with you there. at the start of 2012 he wasn't any real plus but as the season progressed he seemed to find his place and grew in confidence game after game. Hopefully a part of the team for a number of years. His best should be still to come :)

At the start of 2012 he was recruited as a role player - specifically to take the gorilla fwds but also to pinch hit in the ruck & fwd line. .

Sellar isn't on the fringe I'd agree.

I'd like to know what is going on behind Gysberts and I really hope we keep the kid.

He has a rare blend of athleticism and a quick football mind and he is worth persisting with.

I liken Gysberts to Joel Corey from Geelong - or perhaps even Corey Enright.

So I think whilst Gysberts is on the fringe, its due to factors that haven't came to light as yet,

because his VFL form was good enough to warrant senior selection this year - but he never really got a gig.

Someone did suggest on here mid year that his injuries were the reason, but with talk that Neeld might be shipping him off,

one can't help but think it was more than injuries that were keeping him from getting a senior call up.

At the start of the year when i used to see Sellar in our team i wondered if Neeld actually cared about his job.

But throughout the year he showed he can be the type of blocking player and 1 on 1 we need at both Defence and Forward line.

He'd be in our best 22 right now

Sellar played almost every game this year, I would love to see him do well. But he is too slow, where should we play him, fwd? Back? Ruck? He has butter fingers for such a big boy.

Sellar

Bate

Morton

Davey

Spencer

I believe Sellar is a keeper. Plays his best football in defence where he can run straight at the ball looking ahead.

Keep: Dunn, Gys, Morton, Sellar, Strauss, Bail, Magner, Joel Mac, Jetta and Martin (unless traded)

Trade/delist: Cook, Bate, Sheehan, Davis, Couch, Bennell, Petterd, Barty (knee pending)

Gawn: Green, Beamer, Riv, Jurrah, Lawrence

This is all guesswork, of course - I've got no idea what will happen.

On my first reading of that Moonshadow, I thought Max was one of your Trade /delist suggestions. I was about to respond in a in a way that might have earned me a holiday from Demonland. Glad I re-read your post first.

Geez I was wrong on at least 3 of the keepers. Glad I'm not on the list management team. I'd struggle big time. Looking forward to seeing how things progress, especially with further testing at training this week. Interesting times.

You could apply for a job with CaC, over at tigerland.

Bennell was a great fringe player.

Jai Sheehan had a nice one too.

I would suggest Dom Barry get himself a short back and sides.(and front).

Jamie played like he wanted to headline @ the fringe festival.

Talent & speed, but got it too soft at the start. Followed Mortons footsteps, toe mark for toe mark. Can he turn his career about?

Im sure the mighty Black Ducks would welcome JB with open arms. And if not them then maybe he'll be wearing red and blue next year.... for the carey park panthers!

I think someone will give him a second go, but cheaply. He's still young so can he be rookied? I'm lost with all the changes to the rules.

Why thanks - wasnt too hard to choose though. :)

Neeld and Craigie gave me a call first to make sure I was ok with it all...

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
