In his first year with the Club, James’ versatility was of real value to the team. He played a role back, forward and in the ruck with success, and his versatility was of great benefit overall. James has had a positive impact on the team - both on and off the field - since his arrival. As well as being a useful acquisition in general, he is a very good competitor. - Leigh Brown (forward line coach) melbournefc.com.au

His game against Essendon with a injured quad was very brave and he had showed a great deal in the backline. But with Dawes, Pedersen, and Martin possibly on the list in 2013 - something will have to give and that may be Sellar - even if Rivers leaves for Geelong.

My preference would be for Pedersen to be 2nd ruck and Martin to find somewhere to be 1st ruck but we will see.

Im guessing it wont be Sellar, itll be martin. Sellar does actually know what to do out there and doesnt look lost half the time

Despite his many doubters, Sellar added versatility and strength to the line up. Not a star by any means, but part of the solid workforce that a club needs.

Hes a good solid role player. Neeld seems able to rely on him . They cant all be stars, some just need to be consistent and effective.

I used to be quite fond of Martin but after re-watching a few games from this year I have come to the conclusion that Sellar > Martin. Sellar might not be as athletic or pacy but he has strength and a presence around the ground. He does really well in the contest and although he doesn't take a heap of grabs, I really struggle to remember when someone out marked him in a one on one. Definitely has a future in the backline if he keeps playing the way he was in the back half of the year.

In the first 4 -5 games I was thinking "why on earth did we get this guy no wonder Adelaide flung him"

However when he moved into the back line it all started to improve.

I have to admit I was wrong.

He is a keep for mine.

My thoughts exactly, OD.

I really hope he gets a new contract, but like RPFC, I feel he may be a casualty of Dawes and (probably) Pedersen coming into the team.

pederson is 25 years old and played 16 games, Martin and Seller may have their limitations but can't see why everyone is talking up Pederson as a player so much

I'm a fan and can see a lot of upside in Sellar he was gaining confidence as the season progressed and with a better team around him I reckon he'll thrive. Once he starts to grab some more marks there'll be no stopping him.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
