Demon trucker 1,800 Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 Were you around to see him? Judging by that comment; obviously not. FYI TJ's kicking was/is in the elite category, he could land a footie on a postage stamp from 50 metres- lace out and on it's end. How about those goals he use to kick 50m on the run from the boundary?
pantaloons 2,019 Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 Travis johnstone was an average kick. If that's the case, I look forward to overwhelmed Demonland profanity filters breaking down as you describe the kicking skills of our current list. Anyway, welcome to the club, Dom Barry.
s-t-i-n-g-a 439 Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 The deal for Hogan could have been done for just pick 3, but considering our 13 would essentially be 14 because of the Goddard deal we saw it as a better option of getting it done and having pick 20 as well as Dom. Other recruiters had a sniff of him. Won't that mean 20 becomes 21 as well? Thanks for the info on Dom. My sources, who are very reputable, also tell me good things about the kid too.
beelzebub 23,392 Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 He's a bit light....and a bit wide eyed just ATM but he presents well this lad. You can certainly see a theme in the types were NOW selecting. Geez a McLeod/Rioli type weaving through the middle in red and blue !! Here's the run carry type to compliment the jones' and vineys Is Dom.....is good !!
DemonWA 3,946 Posted October 9, 2012 Posted October 9, 2012 I also read above that he should have gone at #33. Hahahahaaaa under what assumption? . My post was requesting that he be given the vacant #33, not that he should have been picked at 33 *facepalm*
rpfc 29,044 Posted October 10, 2012 Posted October 10, 2012 Travis johnstone was an average kick. What. The. F___. TJ was an amazing kick of the footy. Application and professionalism were his issues - not skills. Recant or suffer wrath.
FarNorthernD 5,863 Posted October 10, 2012 Posted October 10, 2012 Travis johnstone was an average kick. And Stewart Loewe was a lousy mark, Brett kirk needs to get in touch with his spiritual side and Peter Slipper is a fit and proper person to hold the role of Speaker of the House of Reps This is fun
Dr. Mubutu 867 Posted October 10, 2012 Posted October 10, 2012 Travis johnstone was an average kick. Jesus. Worst post of the year nomination. And there have been some doozies this year.
Hannibal 5,814 Posted October 10, 2012 Posted October 10, 2012 Trapper was a great kick. He occasionally (often) tried to be too cute and thread a needle, which was the only time he turned it over by foot. This may be what the poster is remembering, but those mistakes were decision making errors.
Jordie_tackles 354 Posted October 10, 2012 Posted October 10, 2012 Is Dom.....is good !! I like, i like
The heart beats true 18,201 Posted October 10, 2012 Posted October 10, 2012 Jesus. Worst post of the year nomination. And there have been some doozies this year. I still think the 'Bring back Juice Newton' post tops this, but it's a pretty close race in a very densely populated field.
GRUN DEE 69 Posted October 10, 2012 Posted October 10, 2012 He looks a bit like Carmello on the X Factor! Sorry Dom.
ignition. 1,478 Posted October 10, 2012 Posted October 10, 2012 I just came across this old article released post championships with Barry rated as a top-end draft pick. This gets me even more excited about this kid, great work on the deal MFC! http://www.afl.com.au/tabid/208/default.aspx?newsid=144594
PaulRB 6,436 Posted October 10, 2012 Posted October 10, 2012 Travis johnstone was an average kick. We needed a pacy wingman to excite the MCG » Barry Travis was either an exceptional or disastrous kick. Never average.
spirit of norm smith 16,681 Posted October 10, 2012 Posted October 10, 2012 We'll have the only Reoli on our hands.. agree ... fingers crossed
spirit of norm smith 16,681 Posted October 10, 2012 Posted October 10, 2012 I just came across this old article released post championships with Barry rated as a top-end draft pick. This gets me even more excited about this kid, great work on the deal MFC! http://www.afl.com.a...x?newsid=144594 this is the 18 medium size midfielders invited to the AFL draft combine (of the 80+ invited)
Axis of Bob 11,945 Posted October 10, 2012 Posted October 10, 2012 He really does look like an extremely smooth mover. There is definitely a theme with the players we are targetting. They are all very good runners. This continues the theme through the year of good runners excelling (Jones, McDonald, Howe etc) and poor runners struggling (Moloney, Gysberts etc). We play a very fitness based game, so getting our hands on high level runners certainly appears to be a priority. Barry is the rare type that has the combination of speed and endurance, so we'll see what we can do with him once we get him in an AFL system.
Jordie_tackles 354 Posted October 10, 2012 Posted October 10, 2012 I just saw this article on the AFL website, gives a bit more insight into Barry and how he had to work to make it, seems he was not full dedicated and playing school seconds let alone TAC last year. But he lifted his commitment to school as well as football being told talent would only get him so far, he seemed very grounded in his interview yesterday, this could be a very good pick by the MFC imo, Barry could have been a bit of a bolter in the end being suggested as even a second round selection. Not bad for a bit of an add on. http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/149476/default.aspx
Tex 68 Posted October 10, 2012 Posted October 10, 2012 Check out some more of his highlights at the 1.45 minute mark. Exceptional pace. Very excited.
Green Machine 63 Posted October 10, 2012 Posted October 10, 2012 Dunno if its been posted so whatever !! haha http://www.afl.com.au/Video/tabid/76/contentid/494756/invoke/Default.aspx
Hannibal 5,814 Posted October 10, 2012 Posted October 10, 2012 The thing I immediately notice with Barry is that he doesn't fumble. He's a one touch player. It's called class.
45HG 1,559 Posted October 10, 2012 Posted October 10, 2012 The thing I immediately notice is that he seems very much an outside player. Then I notice his kicking!
Tex 68 Posted October 10, 2012 Posted October 10, 2012 A mix of Yze, Lewis Jetta and Michael Long. Great pick up IMO.
