There are a few.

The funny thing is that they think that- and yet still have the requisite IQ to turn on their computers, log into Demonland, and type sentences.

Weird..

I was on that side a while ago too. However, the more I saw of the kid and the more I saw of how our team conducts itself, the more I thought he would be worth paying a little over for, especially given how difficult it often is to accurately rank the kids in the top 10. It's just not possible to say with certainty that the player taken at pick 4 is going to be better than the one taken at pick 8. With Jack we know exactly what we are getting, we know he will be able to play and have an impact in his first year and we know he has an uncompromising attitude to training and professionalism. Given that many reports have him as quite similar to his father in his playing style, we even have a pretty good idea of what he'll be like in a few years. I know it would be great to get all that as a second round pick, but the reality is that he is worth the punt at pick three.

and I've decided this is all GWS' fault and that stupid mini draft, which was designed to give them more established players, but instead has just been rorted and will provide them with high draft picks...

no mini draft would mean O'Meara would be clear 1, Whitfield clear 2, with Viney falling through to our second round selection... God damn I hate GWS...

Viney is a competitive beast in the Selwood, J.Lewis, Hodge mode. In fact I've heard some describe him as the most ferocious young player to ever come through the system. The kind of player that is first picked in September, a "culture changer", and decent skills to boot. I don't give a rats' tossbag if we have to take him at 3, he's exactly the kind of young player we need to bring into the club. No brainer IMO. Who cares if O'Rourke runs a better beep test or Grundy tested better in the clean hands test, the guy is clearly worth an early pick and not to mention the lack of integrity of overlooking him after putting 2 years of work in..

If you want any more convincing, we took a guy at pick 1 four years ago who blitzed the Championships, broke records at draft camp and had all the potential in the world. Jack Watts of course. Fast forward and the one thing stopping him from becoming the player he should be is a lack of intensity and competitive instinct. He will never get it (IMO). You can't teach what Viney has. We're lucky.

Obviously it's better if we get him at 26, because we'd be making out like bandits. But that's out of our control. The only reason you'd see me in meltdown tomorrow would be if we overlooked him altogether. Luckily that won't happen.

I'd be happy wherever we take him, for some/all of the reasons given in this thread. Taking him at 3 isn't all doom and gloom, as it leaves us with a live pick 26, which is probably going to be much more useful in trades. We're not going to get much with our next available selection, pick 45, and I would have thought that even for a player like Pederson, North would be wanting more.

Though perhaps we can pick up a nice second round pick as FA compo on Moloney and/or Rivers.

So does anyone think we will not take him if GC bid?

I will be cranky if we have to take him with 3 on some level....but I'll convince myself that GC and the MFC rated him that highly, and we are getting a steal :)

I will be extremely p1ssed if the club doesnt take him at 3 if they are forced to.

MFC has to take Viney, his skills and strengths are EVERYTHING that Neeld would want, and for the sake of a couple of draft positions, we just can't afford to screw this up.

Still secretly hoping that GC doesn't bid on him. feeling about 70% confident that they won't....

At 3 it is overs. If only because Joe Daniher is the true one, and concessions re 17 year olds last year have thrown the upper end out of whack.

But we have to cop it. Just means our return from father sons has been about zero, compared to the like of Geelong who rate around 100%.

It could be overs, but it won't be massively so I don't think.

Another factor into where I rate Viney personally has to do with the fact that he is ready to play. How many of our recruits over the last few years have been based on potential rather than actual results. We need an immediate injection on hardness and an inside mid for 2013, and thats why I think we take him at any cost.

I am pretty confident they won't bid on him. Basically, if they think he is the second best player in the draft then they bid, if not, it is a huge risk where the only positive is the almost insignificant fact that they will have 1 more player to look at for the second rounder. The emergence of Grundy and Toumpas have made it pretty clear that most recruiters wouldn't have Jack in the top 3 or 5.

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had
