Rucks going recently for picks 7-15, Jolly and Jacobs even Maric went closer to 20 all better than Martin. I think Collingwoods first rounder would be more than kind. Although i think when rucking on his own Martin can be very dynamic in the middle. he can get clearances similarly but not as well as NN. Jamar ect cannot do this. Only rucks with Basketballling backgrounds can do this.

Maric was actually 37, a real steal for the Toigs. Jolly however was traded for 15 by us and 14 and 46 by Sydney to the Pies. Usually when ruckmen go with later picks (20+), they are chucking a wobbly and want to go home (Jacobs) or are very average (Meesen, Seaby etc). In almost all cases where ruckman have been traded for not a whole lot, they are uncontracted and have their original club over a barrel as they search for game time to further their career and more money.

Obviously we're going to differ on what Martin is worth, but the fact that he is contracted means that Melbourne has a lot more leverage. And again, Neeld will know their list intimately and the sort of player he'd like at Melbourne in a deal.

I'd want to be a whole lot more certain that Gawn and Fitzpatrick will make the grade and Jamar can prove me wrong and return to some decent form before we trade Martin.

If it is in fact a done deal, then it better be a good one.

Martin & our 3rd round pick for their 1st round pick.

Both ours and their 2nd round picks will be tied up if father son (Viney & Stewart) so that would be a reasonable deal I reckon given I think Martin's worth a 2nd round pick.

There's not that much on their list that I'm interested in that they'd be willing to let go.

James Stewart eligable Collingwood FS.

With Collingwood's 2nd round pick likely to be in the late 30's to early 40's I expect a Richmond or St. Kilda to nominate him with their 2nd round pick and Collingwood to match that with theirs.

Meaning both our 2nd round picks will be tied up. That's why I reckon Martin and our 3rd round pick for their 1st round pick might work.

With that pick I'd be hoping we can land one of Matthew Haynes, Jackson MacRae or Laine Wilkins. Outside running midfielders/forwards with really good pace, and in Wilkins case really good kick also.

Thats the mindset we need going into trading though. Every team will have that mindset so if we go in without it we will get rolled and lose players for less then what they are worth.

Is Martin a bit of a jack of all trades and master of none? I see him as very versatile but only just average in the forward and backlines and fairly average in the ruck and around the ground. He can look good and then the complete opposite a minute later.

Going around in circles. We'll see what happens in trade week, and whether Collingwood is genuinely prepared to have their 31 year old ruckman go around next year backed up by Cameron Wood while the team is in premiership mode.

With Neeld, Leigh Brown and the Collingwood recruiter coming over at least we know if we do deal with Collingwood for a player it will be an educated trade.

my thoughts exactly, plus he is my favourite player so i'll always be a bit biast towards him but i think even with that in consideration, he will be our best ruckman next year provided he is injury free.

I really hope he doesn't go! if he does then that will mean both of my favourite players have both left the club in 3 years!!!

Docs's correct, 27 next year, 52 games, and 198 cm, think you would have to bundle him with a high pick to clinch a good player.

Grigg was pretty cheap too for some spud called Collins. However, Houli was the "real steal" its amazing what you can do if you put your mind to it. Bit of creative thinking and some leverage.

However, the key is to get your target to commit 100% to you - normally done thru a cheque book & a clear outline of the new role he would play. Footy players normally like to play footy, promise them a role and some dollars and you are 99% of the way there.

They may also have plans to ruck Martin as the 1st ruck, with Jolly playing deep forward, but going into the ruck when absolutely needed.

Jamar getting a new 3 yr? contract, is the writing on the wall for Steph,,, or Spence.
