mark Neeld should take the entire playing list to Norm on the first day of preseason. Lay down the standards that must be kept.

They should fit poles to the base of the thing and make the players do laps of the G carrying it together.

...and to lift the curse they should get the administration to do the same thing...

I got Norms Smiths autograph in 1957 or 58! He really didn't want to sign,- "No you don't want mine, I'm not one of the players." I was an 8 year old footy mad Dees fan and said, "I know who you are and I'd like your autograph please!" He kinda looked around hoping no players were looking.

do you still have that sacred piece of paper?

I personally hope this lifts the curse !!!! God we need some luck for a change ....

Everyone says we've been cursed since that day ! Me being only 33 can't truly understand what or how it transpired ....

Please curse be gone ! The oldest the greatest we need to be great again !

Absolutely! And so was I. Rewriting his tory to Suit themselves 'ah'gain.

We all know he wasn't good enough as he was, the Man himself. Humble & without pretence of Image. Honest til the Sun set.

I remember that awful, unbelievable day so well. "I am Melbourne"!

So like Don McLean's "The Day the Music Died" just a few years earlier - gutted empty feeling.

But, as many have said here, hopefully the inner Demons are now exorcised and we can return to the winning, dominating days.

Back Neeld - he has a steely resolve. Get on board, or get off......no passengers allowed.

I remember, as a little kid the total surprise & stunneed disbelief of what was happening to my club. Not old enough to fully grasp it. But somehow new this was a very bad thing happening.

We were Never the same again.

A Loyalty, & an Honesty broken, like a our heart torn out.

Humility, that No One, is bigger than the cause, the Jumper, the quest.

These days were full of Prima Donnas & Bella Rinas.

Shame!

If we All take a leaf out of Norms book, to not be pretentious, egotistical, or pretend to be superior,,, that Honesty is required to overcome our failings.

Then, & only then, will we get somewhere near what the Swans are now.

And part of the way towards what our club was then.

Although he was reinstated within a week, he never again enjoyed his old relationship with the club.[1][6] The Demons won only one more game for the year and missed the finals for the first time in eleven years. In a matter of a few dramatic months, Melbourne's dominance was dismantled. The Demons wouldn't make the finals again until 1987, and have not won a premiership since the dismissal, which is sometimes superstitiously attributed to the Curse of Norm Smith.[7

The missing overcoat is explained in The Age this morning. He is portrayed how his former players wanted him portrayed

It's culture, strong culture & an honesty of ourselves.

When we removed Norm & lost Barass as well, we lost our keepers of our honesty.

ok DL. we know how you feel.

Sit down and rest. You are a little over excited.

Norm is back where he belongs. At the 'G.

He wouldn't want us to waste the opportunity to get the Honesty back home again. It's what he was, was it not?

A stature is a poor result, if it's not honored in the way of the person.

If we don't dig back into exactly what he was, and therefore learn what it was exactly that made him successful, & by extension,Us. Then all this is nothing more than a charade. And will do nothing but continue the glaze over.

I've just started reading 'Red Fox'. Thoroughly recommended. I'm going to space it out to tide me over the summer.

Smith's time was a fair way before mine. It's amazing reading about a period when MFC was the strongest bar none.

'I'm Melbourne'.

The Red Fox is with us.

"Bluey" Adams would have a fair idea. He won 6.

The Statue is now with us. I wait to stand next to it, see if energy radiates.

But for now i am just stoked to see the Fox standing outside his home.

I'm looking forward to visiting before the first game at the G next year. My usual meeting spot is Barassi but on this occasion I'll make a detour.

Norm taught Barassi the whole lot. The Red Fox is an Epic read.

Now he is back.

Looks awesome as a screen on the Mac as well.

Good point WYL. Can't wait to return to Oz and look for it amongst what I left at mums years ago. Saw it 20 years ago and fingers are crossed!! hah

I loved how he wanted no adulation for himself, was just totally focused on everything needed to get his team up!

Spot on Dee-Luded!

He couldn't understand & thought it a bit odd that this kid'd want HIS autograph!?! ...only the best coach the game's ever seen. I idolised and thought it back then too, largely because of what you wrote above. ..plus his footy nous. To me he personifies what we need tons of at every level of the club.

GATOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS There were 5 in the main rehab group, namely Gawn, Petracca, Fullarton, Woewodin and Lever.  Laurie was running laps by himself, as was Jefferson.  Chandler, as has been reported, had his arm in a sling.  Lindsay did a bit of lap running later on. Some of the ''rehab 5'' participated in non contact drills and b

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session.
