Pick 39 would normally be a 3rd round pick (if you take out compo picks). We might get him with our Pick 45.

What's that Josh Toy like? Worth 39 + Petterd or am I dreaming? Don't know much about him that's all.

Toy is rated similarly to Caddy in that he was a very good junior larger than other kids, hasnt either liked GC or transferred this skill to AFL level

His value is a bit unknown but less than Caddy for sure

You put that as a deal that is already done. What is the source? I can't find anything on the trade tracker on the AFL site.

Think he is suggesting that, as we are linked with Ray

Posted

i lied slightly only 91kgs at 17 WYL..... thought i heard he was bigger

anyway should be some sightings of the big man in the following link

http://www.contested...draft-prospect/

a bit after the 4 minute mark is the WA game

no probs Jordie. He is still a big boy for 17!! (That is huge) a few more Parmas will get him those extra kg's...

Pick 3 for MD2 (Hogan) + Pick 20

Pick 4 Wines

Pick 13 best outside mid available

Pick 20 Dawes + Pick 39

Pick 26 Viney

Pick 39 traded for Farren Ray

* I don't want Caddy. Has clearly stated (via management) that Melbourne is a Club he doesn't want to go to.

* Pick 20 is too much for Dawes, need a sweetener for me.

I'm not sure about Hogan, but it looks like I'm going to have to change my mind pretty bloody quick!

edit - was just approached by St Kilda and traded Farren Ray for Pick 39.

Thats nice Billy,,, but just in case we miss a crack in the 'mini',

Pick 3 for Toumpas

Pick 4 Wines

Pick 13 best available draftee with pace

Pick 20 Pederson/Stevens

Pick 26 Viney

Pick ? Colcohoun/Hrovat?

Farren Ray for one of our comp picks, or a player trade.

can we get another free agent, maybe a russell?

I'm tipping Leon Cameron to be a 7 time premiership coach!

Let's hope we can get one before they go on there granny run.

For the record, Hogan weighed in at 97kgs the combine last week. 97kgs! He's a big boy for a 17 year old!

I was still 50/50 whether it's a good movie to trade such a high pick for a 17 year old, but getting Viney second round means we can afford to now.

The machianations of the gold coast deal for pick 1 in the mini draft were:

Gold Coast give Pick 2, unactivated 2010 end of Rd 1 compo pick and pick 63 to GWS

GWS give mini draft pick 1 and unactivated 2011 end of Round 1 selection.

I'm expecting that on this basis the Melbourne deal for MD pick 2 will be a little more complex.

Without being certain of what GWS currently hold in terms of compo picks i wouldn't be surprised to see something like:

Melbourne give pick 3 and later pick

GWS give MD2, an unactivated end of round 1 compo pick.

I believe the rules of trade week then allow for the club to activate the compo pick received.

Therefore it the Demons would look something like:

MD 2- Hogan

Pick 4- Toumpas/Wines/Stringer

Pick 13- I believe likely to be tied up in a trade for Dawes with a swap of further later picks.

Pick 20ish

Pick 23- Viney

A pretty reasonable overall result i believe...(the only disclaimer will be that the Dawes trade is a success- balancing his form and not paying overs).

I wouldn't waste my time, P13 for Dawes is too much.

Pick around 20 - 30 should do, or look elsewhere.

P13 we should use ourselves on a speedy.

I assume GWS would use P2 for Grundy,,, so, we would get Viney signed for 2nd Rnd, + a likely Toumpas @ P3, then P4? Wines/O'Rourke/Macrea?

then P13 - Stringer/Kennedy etc?

If we give up P3 we will likely miss one of Toumpas/Wines. Hogan is a nice option but not for too much.

yes way overs. seriously wtf are we giving up pick 13! any chance of getting ben kennedy garlett is [censored] down the drain..

Not Impressed!

Ok so what I'm seeing on Twitter Is

GWS get - 3 & 13

Melb get - Hogan & 20

Surley we're paying overs If that's the case?

What if it was said:

Viney, Hogan and pick 20 for pick 3, 13 and 26?

That would be the sweeter deal that we'd have to offer GWS to stop them nominating Viney. The way to get Viney at 26 was to offer something to GWS and GC to make it worth their while. All the deals between GWS, GC and Melbourne (including letting Viney go at 26) are linked with each other.

Yep. Too much. That's probably equal to pick #1. Anyway I wouldn't give them one of the Scully compo picks just on general principles. If that was the deal they cut so we got Jack at 26 then I say we offer them # 3 and tell them to take it or leave it.

Seems, ridiculous. Gold Coast gave away pick 2 to get the first pick in that draft and they got a sweetener of a compo pick didn't they? While we would be giving pick 3 for the second selection in the draft and having to slide down from 13 to 20. Doesn't quite add up for me.

Yep, great way to look at it. On the surface it doesn't seem "fair" but you have to give something to get something.

Throw in pick 4 & a good result at pick 20 with that scenario and ill sleep well at night.

On the bright side, if it happens that way, Dawes for 20 is a lot more palatable than Dawes for 13. Collingwood can take that or leave it, and unless they've got some creative accountants at Vic Park, dealing him is surely a necessity. Even with the Dogs moving up to 21, we still have that covered with 20.

Maybe GC got the better deal as a sweetener for not bidding on Viney.

I know it's from Jay Clark, the guy who said Monfries to Dees on 4 year deal, but...

@ClarkyHeraldSun: Dees want Dom Barry, slick left-footed wingman, as part of Hogan trade. Had an outstanding draft combine. Averaged 18 poss for NT.

@ClarkyHeraldSun: Barry sweetens the deal for Dees. Run and carry specialist finished 3rd in 3km time trail, 9th in beep, and nailed 3rd best kicking score.

Another way to look at it is that, by not bidding on Viney, GWS has effectively traded us pick 3 for pick 26.

So, the trade between GWS, GC and us is:

MFC:

In- 20, MD2, Viney

Out- 3, 13, 26

GWS:

In- 2, 3, 13

Out- MD1, MD2, 20

GC:

In- MD1

Out- 2

If you look at all of those deals by themselves and each team benefits well. That's what a win-win-win trade is about.

They way I look at it is GWS involved themselves in blackmail and draft tampering. We owe them nothing. We owe ourselves the best deal possible.

Sweetener for pick #3 or both 3 and 13? I am assuming Barry is expected to fall around pick 20?

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
