And another one bites the dust - Cook

This is pretty impressive so far, good to see drastic action. I'm liking Neeld more and more, he's going to make a real football club out of the MFC.

God, what a waste of a high draft pick.

yep, we could've and should've taken Darling. I remember the exact moment when we read out Cook's name on the radio, which lead me to say in shock "woooaaahhhhh", i knew right then and there that we had stuffed that pick up.

Thanks again Barry, also wanted to get Talia with pick 11 in the '09 draft. I know we all think we are expert recruiter's, but i honestly think i would have chosen better prospects than BP did, which goes to show how [censored] of a recruiting manager he was.

9 other clubs were into him.

It just didn't pan out, which is why drafting isn't an exact science.

Get a grip.

Or run it into the ground! We'll have to wait a few years to see how it pans out, but he's certainly making some bold moves and won't die wondering. Good to see a different approach I guess!

Very disappointed by this news though. Not necessarily by losing Cook, as he has shown nothing, but the fact we wasted our first pick in that draft for nothing. We could've been safe and picked 30-40 players who would've given us good service, so it was just a baffling choice and a waste that sets us back further.

very early call on Lucas. Would've liked to see him have another season at least, to see if he came on, but it would appear he won't get that opportunity.

Clubs are said to be interested in him, what do we think we'll get for him? 2nd / 3rd round draft pick would be nice? I think we'd look to get a player instead of a pick for him however.

Let the "We should have taken Darling" posts begin.

All too true (on all fronts).....

This is quite sad (esecially given his draft number), but I wouldn't exactly call it a big shock.

This does surprise me a bit, never seen him play apart from the odd bit on telly so can't really judge it. Although he's made slow progress I figured that they might give him some more time given that he's a tall. That said, I'm not upset about it, because having seen him over the past couple of years they must be in a position to know whether or not he'll make it, and to cut him now suggests they just don't think he'll cut the mustard. Real shame given what else was on offer in that draft but as Stuie says, it just didn't pan out....I just wish some of our high pick recruits WOULD pan out though !!!

Why are we telling people that he would be delisted otherwise?

Surely that reduces his trade value...

Maybe because he is not much chop and the football world knows it anyway.

IMO there is not much there when after 2 years a supposed AA CHF cannot maintain his spot in Casey Seniors.

Finally we are seeing what most people have known for some time.

We have a crap list.

Sadly because I am running out of years It is start again time.

There were two surprising points in that article: one, that it said we are to turn ver as many as 10 players this offseason (I wouldn't put a ceiling on it); and two, that nine clubs are interested in Cook, presumably mistaking him for a chef.

I can't understand why so many clubs would be interested in a fringe VFL player.

Melbourne have invoked the "reality' act.

Theres a time for ducks and drakes...and then theres occasions like this.

.... Jai Sheehan and Leigh Williams are easily more of a presence at Casey, the former I think has been great the last 3 weeks (yes i have been there) the latter was also very good in his last appearance especially considering the issues he has had this year. Yes waste of pic but Jai at least on exposed form and talent in terms of list management looks to be and upgrade.

Had to feel for Lucas though, on the weekend he just got monster ed, got to the fall of ball OK but always had the defender who was 2x his size on him knocking him out of the way.

The exodus of players is one thing but as the toll mounts who are we going to replace them with? The list of available experienced "name" players is dwindling -eg Boak gone, Cloke not wanted, Tippett going north if anywhere. If we replace all our losses with draft picks or fringe players from other clubs, I fear we are going to sit in the doldrums for many, many years.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
