If Hawthorn beat WC on Friday eve (probable) and if Coll beat Essendon ( V probable) it may pan out better for Freo to lose on Sat eve against us , finish 8th, and play a home final against WC.

After the season from hell that would just about put the final nail in it for me. Between the beatings on the field and the beatings off it, we beat freo in the last game (when they're trying to lose) and give up both the better draft picks and Viney as a 2nd rounder. Would that create a "winning culture" for the future?

The fact they hammered North at Etihad should show their intention. Lyon knows the Victorian grounds well, and will back them to win in Victoria. You can't mess around with form at this stage. They'll want to hit the ground running in WK 1 of the finals..

Plus, they would literally have to be a no-show for us to get a win over there.

An even better outcome would be for Freo to leapfrog Geelong and get a home final over there against the Cats which is also a possibility.

I don't believe it's smart in these circumstances for the Dockers to take it easy and, even if they do, we haven't won a game in Perth for aeons and it's unlikley things are going to change this week.

Thats also true...and I hope you're right. Something about this looooong season has me anticipating the worst.

But...it would be nice to see a tanking story about something other than (1) Melbourne and (2) draft picks.

That's definitely a possibility there's only 82 points difference in For and Against which could easily be made up.

The only fly in that ointment is that North might beat GWS by more than Freo beat us and end up 6th.

If we win the easter bunny will be chaired off the ground on Santa Claus' and no child shall live in poverty by the turn of the century shoulders.

Hopefully not a concern as both WCE, Geelong and North games are over before we play. If North smashes GWS, Fre would know how much they can beat us by without losing 8th spot, if WCE are in 5th. For that matter I think Freo would prefer Pies over Cats as first up opponent if it's over here .

That fly in the ointment would only assist as a spur for the Dockers to play at their best because they would know how much percentage they need to catch up on to overtake them if it became necessasry.

For my part, I hope we can make a fist of the game even if finals bound Freo are too strong for us in the end. You're only as good as your last game and the memory of our last game for 2012 is going to hang around for a long time.

Fremantle could be playing for 6th spot and a home final, if Geelong lose to Sydney, Fremantle will get us by 100 points. If Geelong win, they will take the foot off and beat us by 60 points

MFC will gain 4 points.

It will be interesting to see Fremantle's selected team on Thursday night .

It should be remembered than Ross Lyon's St Kilda 'Rested' 7 players against Hawthorn 3 years ago (round 19) . Baker , Dal Santo , Fisher , Goddard , Hayes , Montagna and Reiwoldt were all rested . They won the game anyway .

At the time the Saints were undefeated and 2 games and a hefty % clear of 2nd placed Geelong . Their 3 remaining fixtures were against 9th placed Essendon , 14th placed North Melbourne and us in the last round . These same 7 players all played the following week against Essendon (ironically they lost their 1st game of the year ) .

Quite amazing how the football world forgets these things , yet the finger gets pointed at our club - constantly (re tanking) .

Freo rested a bunch of players (9?) against the Hawks 2 years ago and only a couple of weeks ago Sandilands was a late inclusion . Lyon is not immune from playing ducks and drakes .

There might be some 'Late' exclusions from Freo if it looks like 8th spot is their best option (taking into account other results preceding our game)
