Didn't watts play his first game back last week?

Sinclair roughed him up before the bounce against Collingwood.Viney had his jaw broken right beside him and went back in to give something back. Jack stood there and watched. While its admirable that he's not a thug you cant be a big bloke taking time to develop and a softy at the same time

.He's 196 and 91 he should play like it. Johno Brown can wait but Jack should stop strutting Punt Road oval like he's Tarzan until he's ready to play like him on the MCG. The skills arnt the problem.....trade bait for mine

Just reading through this thread, the common consensus seems to be that most people are starting

to accept that JW mightn't be the player we've been hoping - and hanging onto hope he would be.

On the upside, JW skills are top shelf, but, he lacks desperation and intensity.

I was a very big Watts fan and thesedays I just accept the outcome for what it is, we were a bit stiff, he looked a freak.

So long as I dont have to hear anyone say that it doesn't matter where he was picked - treat him as any other player!

Well, it does matter where he is picked when every kid picked after him look to be 10 times more damaging than Jack.

IRW, I was questioning the factual basis of one claim, not the basis of the entire weight of evidence. He's got great skills and it would be a pity to give him up: if he is not willing to go then he'll be a liabilty if we make a grandfinal.

yea fair enough and it would be a pity to give up on him. I dont imagine they will this year either unless someone comes knocking(doubtful) or he can clinch an otherwise stalled super deal. But the clock is ticking to the next contract.....one would hope the alarm goes off soon because he's going to have to be very very very skilled to stay on playing like he does at present. It would be easier for him to contest 'ugly' occasionally and see if it works. I figured he was smart enough to get excited by the challenges Neeld would obviously throw at him and perhaps he is and it just hasnt shown yet. If nothing elze he'd be a better front man for the press than the other Jacks. His PR is as smooth as his skills and the club could use them.

I can tell you about a lad who had a reputation that fits the description BH gave of JW

He was tall for his age and as a junior he had the nickname "footsteps" and it was known that a hit behind the ears early in the game would see him shirk the contests the rest of the day He played soft in a hard mans game but was as ajunior but was still drafted to AFL

I only knew him on the basketball courts where his agility flexibility vision and anticipation were positively awe inspiring

Look up Bernie Quinlans record and see how he compares to JW

maybe even show that record to JW with BH comments coz I think the kid could learn.

A wise man once said " If you believe you can get the ball, just jump and have a crack at it!" Take note, Jack Watts, take note.

For those of you playing at home, Jeremy Howe said it about an hour ago on facebook.

Yes, I'm aware about Quinlan. Goodes was also considered soft, which is why he slipped in his draft despite kicking a bag in the TAC Cup grand final. It's definitely something that can be improved.

That said, I don't think they would have been coming from as far back. It's really up to twinkle toes to carve out the sort of career he wants. How hungry is he ? I wouldn't give him the hard time I do if I wasn't aware of his talent. I don't start threads on Bennell, Petterd, Bate, etc, because I wouldn't waste my time.

I saw that, and was seriously impressed. And yep, Watts has never been in a contest as hard as that vision. lol

JACK WATTS

I also was on the Jack Watts # 1 pick bandwagon (ahead of Rich and Natanui). Though I had Watts 1, Natanui 2 and Hurley 3.

I saw a bright young man, with elite skills, aerobic ability and a young Nick Riewoldt type. I missed his lack of intensity or willingness to desire the AFL work ethic. In under age footy, his skills and talent got him ahead. Not in AFL firsts.

He needs:

- a bit more raw mongrel

- 3 months in the gym, on protein powder. Forget the 5 kms run. Gym sessions twice a day.

- desire and skills to be executed without laziness.

At the moment he is Cale Morton like. A floating half back, with no accountability and unable to compete man on man. Sure he outmarked Jared Petrenko who is 8 inches shorter.

No trade yet, but 2013 MUST BE A HUGE YEAR.

AFL scouts were concerned about his appetite for the heavy stuff.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
