To be honest, I think Scully made the smart decision for his own future.

As bizarre and painful as its been, we had a big win here didn't we. In all the gloom of this year the footy gods may have turned our way. Imagine ( and no disrespect to an improving and hopefully great Jack Watts) but imagine the pain if we had 2 underachieving number one picks hanging around and the type of crap we'd be getting about that.

People are really confusing the issues with this one.

First issue: Scully's dad signed in February. His contract was INCLUDED in Scully Jnr's. This casts doubt on the suggestion that he had any changes of heart.

Second issue: Scully allegedly lied to Jimmy's face by saying he wanted to stay and it was only through woman's intuition that Jimmy realised this.

Third issue: Scully took a good financial deal - one that any of us would have taken. But this is a seperate issue from the fact that he lied and denied.

Fourth issue: Scully told David Schwartz on SEN that he had not signed or agreed to go to GWS until the end of the season and he said to suggest otherwise was 'questioning his character and integrity' - shortly before hard evidence emerged that his Dad signed in Feb and Sheedy saying there was a verbal agreement earlier. Therefore he himself staked his integrity on the truth he was contending which was then proven false.

Fifth issue: Scully told people that the reason he was leaving was that he had witnessed unprofessional behaviour during a trip to China, suggesting that he was too professional for the club.

Sixth issue: Through luck, incompetance or just fate, he has not performed at GWS, spends most of his time outside the pack and is extraction big bucks at the moment for little bang.

But my point is that issue six is just luck. We are lucky that this is the case, and it doesnt change any of the other issues Ive mentioned. He could be playing better than Dangerfield and then what would we be saying?

But we should get over it and I think most of us are. But lets not confuse what happened. And lets prove him wrong through success rather than whinging.

But using that argument, the club and the sport are based on the passion of the members who are emotionally invested. If you burn a supporter base you better expect some pretty unkind and emotional responses. I dont think anyone here is claiming they wouldnt take the job or the coin. they are complaining about how it was done and they are complaining because the members are what runs the club - the sport is run on the emotional attachment of the supporters.

I just finished Jimmy's book today. I initially thought Scully, before I read the book, had just sat on the fence and had said to Jim he was neither here nor there with GWS and hadn't signed anything. Now I hear that he actually said he was going to stay makes this all the more painful and makes me lose respect for Scully (especially when Fat Phil had already gotten his job well in advance).

I trusted the word of a kid that was obviously not ready for these kinds of situations - and his dad took him for a ride worthy of emancipation proceedings but that is another story...

Two sides to this. I'm not defending $cully at all, but our game is in my opinion very childish when it comes to players moving clubs. I'm not saying I want a situation like in the NRL when players and coaches move without care but at the same time a player should feel comfortable about being able to to tell their current club what the situation is.

In the lead up to Tom making his "final" call many commentators and former coaches were asked if he was your player and he told he was going would you play him. Most said no. That is an extremely immature way of looking at things. So I can to a certain degree understand why Tom lied to Jim, he was probably afraid of the reaction of the club if he told them the truth.

What I don't agree with is the lie he told. He could've told Jimmy, "honestly I don't know, If GWS come to me with a big offer I may take it" and while that's not telling the whole truth it's at least being upfront about the fact that leaving Melbourne was in his mind. GWS put him in that terrible position, seemingly egged on by his father and manager who had $$$$$ in their eyes, and the game's lack of ability to handle players moving made him want to lie.

His decision wasn't wrong, the way he handled it was.

Well that's what you you are saying and that's what you get. Many think the NRL situation is a more grown up way of doing business, I think it goes against the grain of the way we have been brought up, mateship and playing for the team and many in the NRL are starting to think the same way. Even in a professional environment these things should still hold true.

It's not immature at all, it all depends on the position of the club. For a club like Geelong who were a legitimate premiership chance when the Ablett saga was in play then of course he is a big part of the team success and you play him, I mean you don't cut of your nose...

A club like Melbourne when the Scully thing panned out was no threat to win a premiership and in a re build, so why help develop talent for a rival club and hinder the development of players committed to your future. It would be totally incompetent.

The Cloke thing is different again, he is seen by the players as holding the club to ransom, fair or not fair it is having not only a negative effect on him but also on the club. The club are pretty sure he is gone but need him to win a premiership so they play him but does it destabilise the club? Is it counterproductive?

I like the way we do things in Australia and it's about us all being in it together, as a team. I don't want the American it's all about me approach in our football code and it doesn't sit well with many supporters of the NRL either. You think St George played for their coach last year when he signed on for mega bucks to Newcastle for the next year?

As for Scully, well he lied and he has to live with that, he is one of the highest if not the highest paid footballer in the land and if that's what floats his boat the so called professional that he is well good luck to him but at the moment he would be lucky to be in the top 50% of players in the comp.

T$'s sister looks a dead set cross between the corpulant parents. You can see a lot of mom in the son , but none of philthy. And he's always acted like a bastard.

This is where I am at - Have no problem in anyone going elsewhere for money but the same way as I invest emotionally in my football, I invested emotionally in the character and truthful utterings of Tom Scully. I got badly burned. Now, any player who says that they "just want to play football and will let the contract sort itself out at the end of the season" I take it as given that they are gorn until I hear otherwise. My motto now is "talk is cheap-show me ink on paper". I am now 100% cynic and will never be taken in by "talk" again.
