Some trades I'd like to see happen, which keep our first 3 rounds of draft picks are:

- Stef Martin for Wellingham

- Sylvia for Luke Parker

- 4th round pick + Ricky Petterd for Matt Campbell

- Cale Morton for Koby Stevens / Andrew Strijk

- Late picks for Brett Meredith, Levi Greenwood

Realistic targets for free agency:

Jordan Russell

Ricky Dyson

Shannon Byrnes

Danyle Pearce

Nathan Foley

Quinten Lynch

Is Lynch a free agent? Ie. we dont have to trade for him?

All the Caddy doubters should think again. His brother was a viking and if he has that kind of heart he will be merciless in time and like Tappscott with better midfield skills

Posted

Mackay. His ability to get the ball and deliver it into the forward line would be a major boost for us. Plus he's a Melbourne lad.

I heard that Riccutto was sprouting Melbourne were offering him a large sum to come back home.

I watched him today, didn't do much against crap opposition.

I do not think Sylvia should be traded, but Luke Parker would be a great pickup, much like Caddy.

We better do something this year because this year we have a good window to pickup players

Ontop of my earlier post, if we were to go down the moneyball path, some cheap to obtain players we could get through tade/free agency could be along the lines of.

Moloney* & 3rd round pick to Essendon for Gumbleton.

Petterd to Brisbane, 3rd round pick to West Coast, Koby Stevens to Melbourne.

Martin to Collingwood, Buckley & 3rd round pick to Adelaide, MacKay to Melbourne

Jarred Moore & Jordan Russell as free agents.

* I know that Moloney is a restricted free agent so trade value isn't that high. However due to our fortunate salary cap space we are able t play the sign and trade game and get something through a trade. Essendon get a midfielder to help out Watson and we get one of their many tall forwards. Win win!

- Stef Martin for Wellingham

Martin should fetch a good price from Hawks, Pies, Saints, Cats.

I like Stef Martin for Wellingham. Pies get that ruck and we get a good midfielder.

Hawks. Maybe a Shane Savage. Saints Maybe a Sipposs. Cats ???.

Posted (edited)

I think Martin will be used for trade bait but he has so much talent on the field! Too valuable to throw away but if the price is right the club will allow it if you ask me

Are we talking about our Stef Martin and thinking that somehow he has shown enough thus far to be compared to Wellingham?

Petterd for Koby Stevens possible but I think a lot of our second level players have lost all currancy and may end up in the preseason draft after delisting.

I think Col Sylvia is a required players based on what Neeld has said recently and the press release today on our website.

Moloney is gawn. We can all pretty much take that as a given. He has been a good servant and I enjoyed watching him in the past and I think he might do better somewhere else if he can break in.

Correct. Bit of chatter about that Collingwood are now into him.

Adyn Kennedy for North Melbourne just signed, thats a pity

Would be stunned if the Dons agreed to this. Reckon Pears and Hooker may be on the table though.

It's a difficult one trying to think what is a fair trade for someone like Gumbleton?

Former no 2 draft pick who's played less then 30 games in nearly 6 years due to injury issues. Clearly has talent but will struggle to get a game due to the Bombers having Hurley, Crameri, Joe Daniher to come and often having Patty Ryder as the resting ruckman down there.

They may see the value in someone like Moloney to give Watson some support for 2-3 seasons?

Ben Jacobs looks like he will be returning to Melbourne this year and the Dees should well and truly have a look.

He was a highly rated youngster (first round pick) coming out of Brighton Grammar yet was only utilised in defence by Port and as such has failed to make impact expected of a high selection, which part in due was also due to glandular last year. He's a ball magnet (had over 40 touches in an under 18 championship game), who's strong overhead with a strong penetrating kick and would be best used as a midfielder go forward.

Although he may not have showed a heap at AFL level I still think he has the potential to be a good to very good player. With his stocks being reasonably low and the fact he desperately wants to return home I don't think a heap would have to be given up, perhaps a 3rd rounder and an exchange of second rounders

I agree that he does have a lot of talent however my concern is that he's just another skinny kid....

Reckon they'd want a bit more then that also. We probably wont be able to use our 2nd round pick in any trades either as I believe once that picks nominated for Jack Viney we can't even swap it for another 2nd round pick. I may be mistaken though???

Ahh yes you're right assuming GC or GWS don't nominate Viney.

He has trimmed down while at Port because he definitely had a bigger body at under 18 level compared to now not sure why. But I certainly believe he has the talent and dedication to play a similar role to Andrew Carrazzo certainly in relation to his ability to attract the ball and good clearance player.

Benny Jacobs would be great.. would work well with Watts, both fellow Brighton Grammar boys.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
