Petterd to miss rest of season

Will we see Ricky Bobby in a red and blue jumper again? Has been very inconsistent for the past 18 months through form and injury, but hasn't taken his opportunities when playing in the senior side. I believe we need more from someone like Petterd, and this could be a great chance to trade to the Gold Coast while he has some currency - would hate to see him stay for 2 years with a repeat of the past 2 - will be worth bugger all on the trade table then.

Agree. We picked up Petterd about where he was assessed in the draft. I understood Freemantle were keen to take him with the next pick. There were a number of players taken ahead of Petterd that have been relative duds (Sellar at pick 14 by Adelaide).

I feel for Ricky and I hope that if he gets delisted by us he gets a shot with another team. He's never lived up to the promise that he showed in Round 2, 2010 against the filth. If only he could have held that mark...

Too many of our players have that attitude; they are content with playing senior footy. It's the ones that work hard to get there, then work bloody hard to stay there, they're the blokes we need. I put Jones in that category.

The meat market is going to be busy. I sense the inclusion of the noobie teams might serve to lower the bar as to who can still get a game. Ricky Bobby has probably given a bit over the journey to interest a club or two.

Cant see him at AAMI next year though.

When you look at half of the blokes nominated for the Rising Star in the same year as Ricky you realize how far he's fallen: Ryder, Hawkins, Pendlebury, Selwood, Mitch Clark, Nate Jones, Boak, Le Cras, Goldsack, Sam Gilbert.

He's just never come on. I hope he goes to GC with a draft pick for Caddy.

Exactly right, Billy. It's all about atttitude once a player gets handed his first AFL guernsey.

It's the ones who view that moment as only having made it to base camp on their climb of Everest that go on to forge careers.

I think it's part of the reason some of those kids playing at Geelong look to have "it" already. A few of them have been on the list for a good couple of seasons, are starting to get their opportunity now due to retirements, injuries, etc, and they don't want to not be a part of the Gellong "senior" team, so are making the most of the opportunities. While some of them are good footballers, they have a lot of class helping them, especially in the big games (which you see the kids drop off a bit).

That's the culture I'm sure Neeld is developing, and it's an area that I don't think RP has the drive to achieve.

Theres been more than a hadful of "aww shucks i've made it" types to come on board where as we actually want the "ok, now lets get started " kids.

I think we'll be recruiting differently from here on in.

Possibly injuries may have slowed him down as well. Once you lose the yard of pace unless you have elite fitness then its very hard to play as a medium forward. He's just been missing that edge that made him look like a very likely type up until 2010

Most sensible thing you have ever said. Its so bleeding obvious. How long will it take for recruiters to work this one out. Of recent recruits only Strauss appears to be capable of kicking this way.

I still think that Petterd has the ability to be a very good player. It is actually quite hard to know exactly why he hasn't been given more of a chance (when others keep getting a game), but the fact he doesn't is damning in and of itself.

Only the inner sanctum knows if he will ever have the attitude. If he does, or can, I think we should persevere for at least another year. If he doesn't then I agree we should try to offload. But we will get a packet of Kettle chips if we are lucky.

Based on a few cameos earlier in his career, I would have thought Ricky would be a 'perfect fit' for the Neeld game plan, but he hasn't got out of a trot this season (and on occasions has looked disinterested). We might get a late draft pick for him, but most likely PSD imo.

He is as good as gone. I think he will get a chance at another club, and while I wish him well, I would almost be [censored] off if he showed the consistent effort at a new club that he has not delivered here.

Interesting peer group, and yes just hasn't moved forward. Not sure why.

Nate did far more than that -- he never stopped striving to get better and better, not just stay there. A shining example for all to follow. Get the best out of yourself, and then some more!!
