Neeld has managed to coach the following players to be shadows of their former selves:-

1. Maloney - say no more

2. Trengove - does not have any influence on the game - looks as slow as a wet week

3. Grimes - also having no impact on the game - skills are going backwards - should be a gun.

4. Frawley - still good in the contest but has become a liability with the ball - nowhere near his all australian form

5. Davey - goes without saying

6. Bail - no impact - kicking has not improved

7. Jamar - before his injury was having no influence

8. Magner - ball winning gun in first 2 weeks - but since Neeld negated all his attack and ground the confidence out of him

9. Petard - confidence looks shot

Cant believe that the much hyped rebuild from 2006 onwards has ended up like this. 18 months ago we were better than GC, Port, Adelaide, Richmond, Freo, Brisbane, North and were on par with Essendon....... now I don't think we'll beat Gold Coast with Neeld at the helm.

1. Moloney - He's been worked out, and the game has passed him by.

2. Trengove - Played one of his best games of the year tonight. Slow, but from reports he's under the stress of a difficult training regime

3. Grimes - Played one of the better games of his career tonight.

4. Frawley - Definitely has gone backwards. I'm a little worried, but he's not where the problem lies.

5. Davey - His desire and speed are both gone. The game had already passed him by when Bailey was still in charge.

6. Bail - He was never that good.

7. Jamar - He's played one good year in his entire career. He has 1 strength; The ability to win taps. However, they don't go anywhere useful. They never have.

8. Magner - Definitely being played in the wrong position. This is on Neeld.

9. Petard - He's been shite since about halfway through 2010.

Hardly any of your list is Neeld's fault, IMO.

agree, and who has gotten better, Jones and Watts (who was always going to get better). That's it. 6 of those guys in your list should be in our top 10, thats why we are 16th

I think it coming to the point where it's fair to have an opinion of Mark Neeld.

So I suggest 2 criteria for discussion.

1. Who has he inspired to individually improve any area of their game

2. Who has improved in there understanding of his game plan.

Wasn't a massive fan of Bailey, but boy, some of our young players produced some fine displays of brilliance under him, even in his first year.

Neeld has turn promising stars and powerful leaders into..well...a whole bunch of Nothings.

I think it is a good thread and question worthy of discussion. So many on this list look sluggish, and devoid of skills for this level of the game. How so?? Neelds tactics must now come under closer scrutiny...we are 18 rounds into the season and looking worse all the time.

I have been waiting for some breakout games and consistency - It is a huge worry going into next season.

The club must be seriously concerned about our ability to win games.

I don't just think it's Neeld in the spotlight for driving the playing group backwards - I think the highly rated and paid David Misson has to explain his performance as well & where he says the list at. The club's PR machine pumped up how much hard running the group was doing all pre-season and now there appears to be zero speed in the group. Trengove, Grimes, Maloney, Davey & Magner look like they've been playing in concrete boots. Also, Jamar missed 4 with a calf injury, returns to the team and the calf goes again in first 10 minutes..... how poor a reflection is that on the conditioning team?

All clubs would be envious of our lack of soft tissue injuries this year, so Misson gets a tick for that.

If he's the problem then how do you explain St Kilda's successful recent history?

Neeld cannot be judged until he is coaching HIS list, and they have been through more than one season.

If the players listed are so fantastic, why have we been at the bottom end of the ladder for so long?

The fact is we don't have a great list, regardless of draft position. We recruited poorly for a style of game not being played. Our better players are getting old and no-one has stepped up over recent years.

A big cleanout, a different structure, and the dividend will pay.

He thought Neeld was quite aloof and looked as though he didn't really want to be there, such was his body language when others were speaking, i.e. Neil Craig, Schwab, etc; and he got the overwhelming impression that Neeld didn't rate the list. It was mentioned on more than one occasion that "there's no mid-season draft". Which is why I expect major list changes at year's end.

Moloney has been the same player for the last 3-4 years. Which is exactly his problem. He hasn't got many strings to his bow and when his form dips, he stands out. Hasn't been getting the armchair ride from Jamar due to Jamar being down/injured.

Trengove has been injured; whether the club says so or not, I can't believe otherwise. But he hasn't been that bad anyway, we've had way worse. Grimes in my mind has improved this year, and the only effect coaching has had on his game has been to move him into the middle, a clear improvement. His kicking is atrocious, but that's been an issue for years now.

Frawley has not been as bad as people think. We concede way too many inside 50s to allow him to dominate forwards. Davey has been on the way out for at least a year now - not Neeld's fault.

Jamar has been disappointing, but injuries have played a part in that. At any rate, what has Neeld done to make him worse? Just a bad form slump. Bail was great until the concussions (too many forget how good he was) and hasn't been the same since, which really shouldn't be a surprise. Still a part of our future IMO.

Magner is a first-year player. What a ridiculous assertion.

Petterd is simply crap, pretty much always has been. A few good games here and there, like Bate/Dunn, doesn't change that.

jones is starting to live up to his 3rd placing as nab rising star behind selwood and pendlebry

nicholson looks like he's starting to balance his game out

the last month has been amongst the most consistant that sylvia has produced for a long time

the thing that worries me is that in 2010 we were such a fast team...i'll always remember when first frawley and then watts ran down lewis jetta on the mcg wing as melbourne went on to beat sydney by 12+ goals.

where has our speed gone?

with the exception of blease and nicholson our players all seem sluggish...hoping his is just an adjustment from fast twitch to slow twitch in the aid of endurance, but our speed was a massive weapon that we seem to have lost

I was a runner for over 40 years. Tore my calf very badly a couple of years ago and it's only starting to come good now. I've helped train runners. One of my best mates was the AFL umpires running coach in the '80's and '90's.

What Misson has done has been to concentrate on building the players' engines to senior AFL standard - to make them capable of gut running at an appropriate standard. In one of his interviews earlier in the year (around about round 9'ish) he said that they were still doing preseason type training every week. He did much the same at StKilda and Sydney early days.

This means that this year the players would naturally be slower (and also says that the FD must pretty well have written the year off at the start) but their engines will be bigger next year. However, next preseason it wont be too difficult to speed them up and yet improve on the endurance running capacity they are building this year.

I like the way Misson is working. For mine, the jury's still out on Neeld but Misson's a beauty. We've also got 'the scientist' and he approves.

Query for the physiologists/histologists/etc out there. Can you actually change the balance of fast twitch to slow twitch muscle fibres? Or is the real change to do with aerobic capacity or something else?

I feel like punching a wall when I think of that 2010 game against the Swans. When we drew in round 1 last season, I knew something was off with the team. You could tell from that first game! It's been downhill since imo.

That Sydney game was a massive headfake.

It is almost masochistic the way we bring up that game and those two Collingwood games to remember how good we were and how high the promise was.

I remember the crap served up. For every Sydney game there was 5 humilitations in 2010 alone against Haw, WCE, Geel, Carl, and Adel.

Then there was 2011... Embarrassments to Haw twice, WCE twice, NM, Carl twice, Coll, WB, and GeeWTFhappenedhere?

So that is 9 humiliations last year plus one that should be in the Guiness World Records of Public Patheticness by an Sporting Institution.
