I don't know about you guys but if its possible, I think we should put Magner up on the trade table come end of year.

I love the guy and his hard at it attitude and I agree he was a great pick-up, though I honestly think that we could get some value from him on the trade table.

With our team expecting to pick up a number of new mids, the room in the teams mid-field will begin to be limited so I think we may as well get value for him while we can before he ends up playing for Casey week in week out.

Note that this thread would've been about Moloney if he wasn't a free-agent and so difficult to trade off because of this.

I think one or 2 mids will need to go end of season to make room for the new ones expected to come through.

Well some mids need to go to make room for new mids.

Cant get anything for Moloney without a massive beat around the bush.

Evans will probably go.

I cant think of any others...

See if we can get a second round draft pick in return

A 2nd rounder would be a great return for him I think.

How is this a worst post then one that didn't make sense?

I would like to see you even try to justify that.

And since we are expecting to pick up 3-4 mids how do you expect us to make space?

I don't think the club will get rid of forwards to draft mids, they like to keep a balance with this type of thing...

Yeah, lets trade away someone who has had less than one seasons development with us, shown when off the leash can win 30+ possessions and is costing us nothing in the salary cap.

2nd round pick?? exactly what we need, more kids playing at Casey.

I understand its been a tough season on everyone............

Hasn't it already been mentioned in another thread that because Moloney is a restricted free agent there's still trade value for him. He can't just walk, cause we can match any offer.

Either way, Magner stays for me. Apart from Lawrence I don't expect to see any change to our rookie list as I think there's good potential for all of them. Williams I think will get another year because of the illness he had.

Edit: English....

On this rare occassion, Melbourne has drafted a player with a bit of animal in him. He ain't going anywhere nor do I wanna see him go anywhere else

How can we trade him then if we agree to pay him a certain amount? He is untradeable.

Can we trade you?

Lets be honest , the list needs a balance, we cant get rid of 4 forwards to recruit 4 mids.

And yes we need mids,

Jones - We keep

Trengove - We keep

Moloney - Free Agent

Evans - Gone

Mckenzie - We Keep

Couch - No Market value

Ok we keep him and who do you suppose we de-list instead to make room for the 3 - 4 new mids we expect to come in?

Jones? Trengove? Sylvia? Blease?

Cant have your pie and eat it to sadly, and space needs to be made while maintaining a balance on the list.

Well, seeing Moloney, Magner and Couch have been played a lot as forwards, and Trengove on the wing, I don't see the problem mate.

Moneyball

lol

Moneyball gets thrown around for every list change on here...

At its essence the MB theory is about tapping places where players are rarely tapped and also getting value for money.

Hence it applies to getting Magner, not immediately trading him for a speculative kid in the second round if indeed that is what he is worth.

Added to this is his mature body, incredible work ethic, and he fact that he is not a teenager and you have a big 'huh?' from me.

You're assuming we're drafting 3-4 mids, all of which will come straight into the 22.

One way or another, that won't be happening.

Unbelievable, why wouldnt you suggest Morton or Bate or Dunn?

FFS why dont we trade Watts Clark Jones Howe Blease Grimes or even anyone who has shown some talent this year just so we can maybe get some good draft picks and draft a brand new team?

I get what you're saying. But wont it work both ways?

Moloney says I'm going to Carlton because they're offering me 350K over 2 years. We say, well we can match that offer but if you really want to go then we'll trade you?

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
