Tom McDonald nominated for Rising Star

Well deserved. COngrats

Tom McD is one the genuine highlights of the year thus far. I can see this bloke marshalling the defence in 20 years from now.

He looks like an 800 gamer - already.

Happy days

This week wasn't even a contest-- McDonald was the best eligible player by a mile!

Excellent news, and richly deserved.

And, how we needed some good news, after the devastation of last night's news re Mitch!

well done tommy! will be a great servent for the melbourne football club over the next couple of years! :)

Well earned by Tom. Will be a cornerstone if our top line defence in a few years.

Might be sent up forward to replace Mitch, and Davis take his backline spot.

Well done to my boy Tom McDonald. Never in doubt!

Now sign him up Melbourne!

It would have made good commercial sense to extend his contract PRIOR to the nomination. It was obvious he had the goods, but now his agents are in a far better bargaining position. (reminds me of Woey with his Brownlow!)

Well deserved, and well picked up by Whispering Jack. There were so many other suggestions in his thread on this, that I began to believe them, and expected Green or someone else to get it. I now realize the Liam Shiel suggestion was a cynical one!

Congratualtions Tom, and well picked/sought Barry. Credit where it's due - Tommy was a 50-something selection.

recognition for a consistant season so far. Thing i like the most about him is that he is a competetor - seems to enjoy the contest

His story is a terrific example of perseverance and dedication to becoming the best footballer he can be. Has real ticker.

Good news, after we've had all the rising stars against us it's great for us to get one back.

Well deserved.

Well done Tmac,well deserved.

Really came of age against Nick Rewoldt.

This isn't the first time you have shown a lack of understanding of the time and effort required in managing a list and signing players, especially when you've got heaps of them to get through. It's nowhere near as simple as just signing him a few weeks earlier.

Fully deserved. Reverses that early pattern too!

Exquisite pun.

Well MFC must have played MFC as many of the RS this year have come from teams playing the Dees, congrats to Tmac, I will put my hand on my heart and admit I must know diddly squat about football, cause after the Richmond game I was calling for him to go back to the magoos, I am truely amazed at the turn around from that game, now one of my favourites in anew exciting looking backline

Just wait till this kid puts on a bit more beef..he will be some sort of unit.

The thing to also remember -number 53 in the 2010 draft. What a bonus

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
