Just hope my info is correct, a secondary sponsor could also be announced. This will put a very strong smile on my face, if it is true- Good luck -Go Dees.

Any idea what time it will be announced?

Front or rear sponsor I wonder? Also couldn't imagine it will be in the same legue as the money from energywatch never the less good news I hope

Confirmed by a friend who is a former Managing Director of Webjet.

Apparently the new owner is a serious Geelong supporter

it doesn't have an "owner", it is a public company now

Great news and thank you WebJet.

My new favourite travel site!

From Wikpedia

Webjet Limited (ASX: WEB) is Australia's largest online travel booking website[1] offering flights, hotel bookings and car hires. Webjet operates in Australia, New Zealand, North America, Singapore and Hong Kong.

Webjet reported record profits in their “Annual Results 30 June 2011” published on the 11th of August 2011, displaying a 17% growth in TTV to $592 million, a NPBT growth of 8% to 15.7 million, as well as NPAT up 5% to $11 million. [2]

On 8 February 2012, the company announced in their "Half Year Results Ended 31 Dec 2011" that TTV for the half-year had grown 29% to $369 million, and that NPAT was up 17% to $5.9 million, marking sixteen consecutive half-years of growth.[3]

Established in 1998, Webjet was founded by former Jetset Travel Chief Executive David Clarke. He publicly listed the company on the ASX in 1999.[4]

Webjet announced their plans to open their New Zealand website, Webjet.co.nz on the 21st of July 2004.[5]

On 17 September 2009 Webjet announced their plans to commence operations in North America (Webjet.com) through a Joint Venture with Mathias Friess, formerly General Manager Global Sales and Distribution of the Virgin Blue Group of Airlines.[6]

On 30 June 2010 it was announced that Webjet had entered into a Joint Venture with Westminster Travel in Asia to initially cover the establishment of Webjet in Singapore (Webjet.com.sg) and Hong Kong (Webjet.com.hk).[7]

The 21st of March 2011 saw John Guscic take over as Managing Director, while former Managing Director and founder David Clarke assumed the role of Non Executive Chairman.[8]

Have used Webjet for both domestic and international travel...always come through with the goods

so they get a tick from me.

Do we know where this started from at all?

The rumour is that Eddy McGuire had a role in it. I don't know how big a role he had, though.

It's amazing the amount of goodwill you feel towards a company that comes on board like this.

All my flights in future will be booked with webjet.

He "promoted the fact we were in dire need of a sponsor, and using networks that only he has access to, made webjet aware of our situation".

For more, watch EMT.

He also tell us all how he plans to cure cancer and 3rd world famine.

Doesn't look good on the CEO's cv does it...if what you say is true.

Interesting times ahead.

Yes, i know who and what Eddie is...i used to work with his brother Frank....The Clever one.

it doesn't have an "owner", it is a public company now

So who will be posting the 'inappropriate' comments on Facebook? Surely this sponsor won't be a keeper?

ps: hope you all have your sarcasm detectors on.

fancy that......an OPPORTUNITY.

crossed fingers and toes :)

Great news!

If Eddie has had a hand in this, does that mean we have to refrain from poaching the Pies recruiter now?

Good news, it's been a while, but lord knows we deserve it.

Webjet now officially my first port of call for booking flights!

I guess now I'll have to actually book with them, instead of just using them to check the available flights and then going direct to the airline to avoid the webjet booking fee.

I guess this has more to do with the fact that most of my travel is really simple; no car rentals, no hotel bookings, just flights to and from. I'd imagine if you were looking to plan and book a whole trip to, say, NT in July, webjet comes into it's own there.

It would make sense that the rumoured 'secondary sponsor' would be a destination. So maybe NT it is? Or 'China'. All of it. MFC is now sponsored by the People's Republic. The entire population has been instructed to clap once during each game... 140,000 claps per second ought to help get the boys over the line.

C'mon guys can't we find something dodgy about this company ffs?

I heard Ben Polis has some Webjet shares in his super fund.

well that's a start

remember Caro will be working overtime on this one

lets beat her to the punch

Good stuff WebJet!

I'm hoping a second sponsor might be named aswell. Cant see them anouncing two in one night though.

Go Dee's!!!

Bank of Melbourne definitely need to get there name out there. Where are you???

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Hawthorn and Melbourne. Two teams with impressive form from last week but with seasons that are travelling on different trajectories meet in Saturday’s twilight game for what could well be the most intriguing contest of the AFL’s penultimate round. Sadly, the game has been relegated to that unappealing time slot in the weekend when Melburnians are typically preoccupied with activities other than football. It falls between the morning's shopping, afternoon sport and recreation, and Saturday night fever. A time usually reserved for relatively insignificant events but this one is not a nothingburger for either of the clubs or their fans.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
