That is one of the poorest pieces of journalism I have read.

For example did he consider any of the following points before penning that piece of trash?

1. Establishing that Polis did in fact make the comments and that they were not put there by another.

2. Following the Corporations Act.

3. Applying good governance.

4. Allowing each Director to have their say/vote.

5. Making/announcing the decision in business hours and not while Directors could have been out socialising and drinking and not thinking clearly.

6. Announcing the decision to the media in daylight so that they could all be present.

7. Allowing MFC staff the time to be informed, so signs, logos etc could be removed before the announcement.

etc, etc, etc.

Patrick you should stand ashamed for kicking us while we are down and actually doing the right thing. Shameful piece of trash.

What about we do our homework and not get mixed up with a company like Energy Watch in the first place, that would be a start don't you think?

There is so much information about Polis in the system surely a background check would have found it. If not that just try Google, we do employ IT guys that can use a computer don't we.

The realistic option btw, was to try to find a reputable company to sponsor us and not try to overestimate our sponsorship worth. There aren't many companies out there that are prepared to sponsor a football club, that has won a dozen games in the last three years, for more than double their previous BOJ worth especially when the sponsorship is nearly 15% of the sponsors previous year's turnover.

Don't you see a problem there?

BTW if you are referring to why we cancelled our association with them and how we went about it, then Smith got it wrong and we got it right, it's just that it should never have been there in the first place, the sponsorship that is.

I had the same thought about that line in particular. Er...? It's a board level decision, Patty. How can the board make a decision without meeting? Weird.

Look Energy Watch was not the best choice of sponsors but can you share your wonderful research and tell us what other reputable companies are out there that would have sponsored us. And FWIW, given our terrible footy results in the past 3 years, i would have thought managing to double the BoJ sponsorship not a bad effort given the company itself. And even if you do the research on these companies its not necessarily going to be to the sort of things that Polis has done on Facebook. I thought David Jones was a top notch retail company but I am sure if I had done the resesarch I am sure I would have out what CEO Mark McInnes really was.

You don't need to see all the crap on Polis' facebook there was ample evidence of the trail of destruction he left behind in the corporate world and any analysis of his and his partner's dealings would have shown cause major concerns.

This has been a stuff up and whoever was responsible, I believe there is a sponsorship coordinator, should be put on notice that it's not good enough. We are not worth $2m a year for BOJ or FOJ or combined as much as we would like to think we are.

I may be an optimist, but i think our jumper is worth more now than it was last week. It will be interesting to see how this pans out. When i heard Robert Walls on radio say that he had already bought 2 MFC Memberships as a sign of solidarity towards the club, i was proud of this club. We have made mistakes yes. But we still have standards. I hope that many companies can see the benefits of this.

I think I used this quote on another thread about the same issue. I agree with you about the sponsor, and when it was announced on the footy show I had a bad vibe about it and talking to a mate the next day he felt the same way.

However if something didn't add up to me then I find it difficult to believe it didn't for CS, like him or not he is a smart guy. So...he must have had a reason for taking this sponsorship on. Maybe it was a punt as no other sponsors were in the wings and something was better than nothing (then working to get that elusive FOJ sponsor to cover if something went a up), maybe it was a deflection, a good news story in an otherwise bad news year or to sure up his position in the club or maybe he is just not as smart as I give him credit for.

Having said this I think Melbourne has handled the issue very professionally and I think Patrick Smith is way off the mark with his article which to me puts him in line for goose of the week, although I'm sure he will find a loop hole to rule himself out.

Robbie I can agree that there was a lot to not like about EW apart from FaceBook

but what I struggle to come to grips with is why multi-Billion$ companies like Tru-Energy, AGL and whatever the other one was were prepared to do big business through them (not to mention the other sporting clubs) and even 3AW who are in the media business and have far better research capabilities, also failed in their due diligence. I can see mfc looking at this list of impressive companies doing business with EW and saying as part of their due diligence "well looks like they are ok with EW".

These companies have had someone bearing cash, of course they will do biz with them. The power companies in particular do anything for a sale, door to door and phone BS so I wouldn't use them as paragons of virtue.

The power companies we deal with are just a front office. The power companies with real money are the distributers. Those who are connected to the Smart Meters.

    REDLEG PRIDE by Meggs

    Hump day mid-week footy at the Redlegs home ground is a great opportunity to build on our recent improved competitiveness playing in the red and blue.   The jumper has a few other colours this week with the rainbow Pride flag flying this round to celebrate people from all walks of life coming together, being accepted. AFLW has been a benchmark when it comes to inclusivity and a safe workplace.  The team will run out in a specially designed guernsey for this game and also the following week

    It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.
