You may have died today, but you will live for all tomorrows in the hearts and minds of millions who will treasure your legacy

Thanks Jim. Few of us will leave as large an imprint on the world when we leave. What an outstanding contribution to the club, the game and the community. Very sad for his children - as a father, it's unimaginable.

I spoke with Jim's sister Terri-Ann at the family day and she said thatJimmy was ready to go.

The King is dead, long live the King. RIP Jim Stynes.

What would he want us to do today to honor him? He would want every lapsed, past, forgotten, lazy barracker of our footy club to become a Member.

Unfortunately as soon as he was diagnosed i knew things would no bode well for Jim. My Dad fought and passed away with the exact same cancer in the same position and due to its positioning it's extremely hard to fully remove.

RIP Jim Stynes.

Thank-you for not only virtually rebuilding and saving the Melbourne Football Club but also rebuilding and saving so many lives through your selfless charity work.

You are an on going inspiration and your legacy will continue to inspire those who have self doubt and self belief for as long as we inhabit this planet.

You fought a good fight, and as a fan i will miss seeing you stride onto the MCG and/or hugging the fans whether the Dees win or Lose.

Thank-you for showing us the way Jim, in more ways then one. You will never be forgotten.

A very sad day.

Jim's legacy will live on. The simple fact is, he made a genuinely meaningful and significant contribution to a society otherwise obsessed with the superficial (and often negative) contributions made by self obsessed celebrities and sports stars, religious fanatics and unthinking politicians.

In an age where heroes don't really exist anymore - he was one.

RIP Jim. Your life will always be celebrated - it goes without saying by family and friends, but also by every single supporter of this club. You almost single handedly saved it - and for that I personally feel absolutely indebted.

A truly sad day - RIP Jim - you are a true legend - thank you for everything you have done for us.

Can't believe it

I hope every Melbourne supporter shows up and supports the boys round one. i wish to see the stands packed with red and blue.

That's what Jimmy would want to see!

I am very sad.

Jim singlehandedly saved the MFC from extinction by uniting its supporters and its traditional owner of 120 years the MCC. This enabled him to raise initially $5 Million from supporters to get the MFC out of debt and then another $2 Million to MFC endowment fund. MFC had been fractured since the sacking of Norm Smith in 1965 and its break from the MCC in 1981. Despite decades, the splits were so deep that no leader had successfully united the club until Jim came.

Regardless of this achievement it is insignificant to his efforts with the Reach foundation and the 1000s of young lives he changed for the better over the last two decades.

I last saw Jim in September, he recognised my face but not my name (spoken to him about a dozen times over the years). We spoke for a while, for the first time ever I saw him angry. He was disgusted with the dishonesty of Tom Scully. Tom had indicated to him he was staying and Jim took him on his word. I got the impression Jim was not someone who was lied to his face very often. Simply he demanded honesty.
