I shouldn't show my anger but I will as I am reading a bit criticism of Jimmy having a state funeral.(not on here - Sun and Age comments on articles)

"Lots of people do good work for charity and their work doesnt merit a state funeral".

I for one do charity work and will never receive a state funeral.

I for one have not founded an organisation that has helped over 60,000 young Australians. Many celebrities have lent their names to charities that have helped raising money in the short term and then run out of steam as their "celebrity status" dissipates( not that I will ever criticise any efforts to help others). Whilst Jimmy has maintained a certain level of celebrity Reach has become what is not because of Jimmy lending his name but because of his committment ( and others) to the cause.

I suggest to anyone that says lots of peoples do good charity work (which I applaud) that goes unheralded to go and research Reach and see the enormity of what it has done and continues to do in large measure due to its founder.

Does Jimmy deserve a State funeral ? No. He deserves a federal funeral and national day named in his honor.

I think its important to remember that events like this are symbolic recognition of the many people who do excellent work like Jimmy. By recognising one individual we are not diminishing the work of others but in fact celebrating that the selfless work of many is something our community values.

Well said Nut. Don't worry too much what the uneducated say. 100% of humans are never satisfied. Those in the city on tuesday & those who tune in to the media coverage will be as one in spirit.

It's a weird feeling this week, but one we shall grow from.

I wonder how many of those number 11 jumpers have been sold in the past few days... also wonder if there will be a special commemorative jumper made available with the express aim of raising further funds for Reach - a green one would be a nice touch.

Jim Stynes Achievement Scholarships for Young Australians:

37 scholarships will be available each year (in honour of the number 37 jumper Jimmy held up when he set out on his battle against cancer)

"The Gillard Government will provide $3 million to establish the Jim Stynes Achievement Scholarships. As a partner in the program, the AFL will provide an annual contribution of $150,000 a year for the next five years. The scholarships will be administered by Reach and the AFL in partnership with the Government."

For those interested in supporting Jim's work and the club, I reckon the Demon Heartland program is a pretty good way of doing so.

$50 allows 10 kids who would not otherwise be able to attend the footy to come and see the Demons play and be part of the MFC family.

In addition to giving the kids a great day out (well, hopefully it's a great day on the scoreboard) you are helping to build the club's young supporter base.. the kids all sit together and get MFC merchandise and a visit by the club's mascots along with injured players and the like.

I always used to look over and check to see if Jim was sitting in the area he sat at, at the G then if he was there I thought he was ok and relieved to see him. After games when I left I would normally walk past him. Now when I look he will be absent.

I always hated listening to the news on the radio just in case he had passed but weirdly enough when I heard on SEN i wasnt surprised. I went to work thought about Jim and came home and watched sunrise that I taped that morning. The stupid thing is I knew Jim had passed, I had watched all the news networks and it wasnt until I was watching sunrise later that night and Kochie turned to Mel and said I have some sad news JIm Stynes has passed away and Mel just gasped put her hands over her mouth and said oh no. It hit me more then because I actually saw someone react to it. Stupid story I know but thats how it affected me.

Im still trying to get through yesterdays and todays papers. Its just amazing how much he had an impact on everyones lives. I met him heaps of times and he was just awesome. Words will never be enough for what he did to our club.

Then watching The Footy Show tonight and seeing Garry do what he did. He was just amazing and I have no idea how he managed to get through that. When he mentioned the photo I was expecting a photo of the two of them and i thought gosh Jim wouldnt look to good but when I saw the hands together I just teared up. What a beautiful photo that was. Well done Garry you spoke brilliantly.

Might be an idea for the Dee's to always have that seat vacant just for Jimmy amongst the fan's where he used to sit?

Personally, I like the idea of Melbourne fans singing the Melbourne theme song before a game.

You know, that one Stynes sang after every win he played in, the same song he loved getting Melbourne members to sing while linking arms at every single MFC event I went to while he was President (and normally more than once).

Yeah, I'm happy with the true beating heart of Melbourne supporters being expressed as they sing that their heart beats true for the red and the blue...

Don't be ashamed to show your feelings dees, there will be a lot of grown men & women crying next tuesday in Fed Square....it will be good to have a big cry to cleanse the body....& then we start to connect with Jimma's spirit & not his body.....He is still with us all..& if we the supporters keep the MFC strong(er) & make sure the REACH Foundation gets funded, then Jimma will rest content that he has achieved...

To be honest the ideas on here about singing "you'll never walk alone" etc will not work,

Here is my reasoning,

we do not sing at AFL matches like football crowds do, so the song would be disjointed, not have the sort of passion that you get at football games.

I personally will not sing it as I dislike Liverpool and despise Celtic who both use that song.

Also when sung it is played over the speakers with the last bit faded out for the crowd, we have team songs playing at ours, so when would we sing it- 5 mins before kick off? when all the sirens are blaring just prior to kick off?

I have just watched Gary Lyon from lasts nights footy show.

He was outstanding. Must admit had a tear in my eye.

In fact the way all Melb footy people have handled Jimmy's passing has been exceptional.

MFC all the way.
