Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I agree he is slow, but he is doing all the 1% right, even being noticed by one of the normally hard at us commentators, maybe brerton mentioning 1% not just tackling. Pointing out he is tackling hard, he had 10 tackles against maybe the saints and is 2nd for us behind Jordie in tackling, this is a big part of the game now and would be missed.

I acknowledge that other parts of his game seem to be lacking atm

I love Trengove as a player, which is why I'm disappointed by his output. He's averaging less disposals, marks and goals than when he was an 18 year old in his first year. But more importantly, he's not hunting the footy. He reacts, he doesn't initiate. In his first two years he hunted the footy. We're playing one-on-one footy around the stoppages under Neeld, which I like, but I'd like to see Trengove allowed to use his instincts.

Look up some older footage of Trengove and compare it to the last few games. He HAS to have an injury. He was super fast and reknowned for it. Now he cant keep up with Brock - there is no other answer.

It's official. Trengove is slooow! No line breaker thats for sure. I hope it's an injury that he can recover from in due course. But the signs are not good particularly when you are burnt off by McLean.

Blease on the other hand was impressive and will gain confidence from his performance. He did similar things towards the end of last season. He will be encouraged to take the game on.

One thing for sure, we didn't miss Sylvia or Davey. At least our team had a go this week and we were probably spared seeing Sylvia kissing and hugging McLean at the end of the game.

Blease, Gysberts with a few preseasons and the addition of Viney gives me hope.

We were BETTER without Davey and Sylvia. hard decisions loom.

Attended several training sessions over april can tell you that carrying injury imo as was put thru several tests before being able to join main group on occasions and rarely did whole session. Tests involved short bursts of running and had no explosion. Also gathering ball off deck turning sharply and stab passing either foot again couldnt balance and hit target very unlike trengove. And as previous poster said think luke ball and judd like in terms of playing nowhere near optimum levels but no further damage could happen. I say just rest him fully and modify training for him like pies did for ball. Was same for frawley over april hardly trained with main group.

It's not just Trengove though - can't remember who, but Watts got burnt off by someone he shouldn't too, and it wasn't from lack of desire. He was trying to get there.

I think it's got a lot to do with the players getting smashed in training during the week still.

The load on their legs means by the 3rd quarter they are dead out there.

Didn't Neil Craig experiment with smashing his players at training during the season, then easing off sonthey were fresh for finals?

I've got a feeling we'll be very fresh for our much easier run in the second half of the season.

No there is a bit of urban myth about this. Ys he was responsible for punishing the Crows team of Malcolm Blight in June and tapering the training off for September. They won back to back flags. Daniher famously tried this and it backfired badly.

Craig is an astute fitness specialist. He may have overseen our guys get smashed at training pre-season but he he is smart enough not to do it during the season. The fact is though we are so far behind everyone else we have to catch up sometime.

He's been like this all year. Reeks of OP to me. He has no power in his running, can't accelerate, and can't kick. Hallmarks of OP.

If he can't run, he shouldn't be playing. He's not influencing games at all. Can't actually think of any game where he's been at his best.

Agree.

This post makes your suggestion that you are 'in the know' much less convincing.

Well my source was a players girlfriend who told me he was injured since the start of the season and I didn't quiz her any further

Just read the article about what Wayne Carey said about Jack Trengove and his captain situation and I actually think that Wayne is right on the ball with this.

His comments seem concerned although positive and hopefully the clubs senior players take note of Careys comments.

Carey's analysis is plausible and, if you had only seen Trengove play one game this year, perhaps the most likely explanation for Trengove's poor form.

However, the burden of increased pressure doesn't explain Trengove's diminished running ability, and that has been evident for weeks. I think the primary issue is he's carrying an injury.

His legs are probably turning to jelly from all the running in the new regime that his young body isn't used to.

Interesting to note his sister (Jessica) has been selected to run in the marathon at the London Olympics. Jack is playing like he ran a marathon the day before.

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
