It's a go but Andy needs time to set it up - his boss is an ogre who insists on him doing his job first.

Cheers, thanks Jack and Andy! ... I think ...

Fwiw I agree with Nasher, Thomo, BRFE, etc etc. Less is more when it comes to separate boards and the like.

If the worry is that the threads about training are derailed by broader discussion the answer is to apply stricter 'on topic' moderation in those threads.

I completely agree re: the blurred line concern. Moderator chaos and really, really unfriendly for users. I bet that I can pop up some scenarios in the moderator forum and get nothing like a consensus; and I'm not talking borderline cases, I'm talking events likely to occur many times.

If there's a match thread and I discuss X player's performance in that match then that might be approrpiate. How about a follow-up about X's performance in a match reflecting a trend over a season/career? If someone wants to reply that X could have been tried in a different position in that match I assume it's on-topic, but if they reply with a post about how X should be tried in a different position in the next match suddenly it's off-topic and should be continued in an entirely different forum? Hrm...

the world's biggest wrist watch site, which has 74 forums, many dedicated to discussions on individual brands, plus sales options, etc., but it's very clean and functional. That said, it has 123K members, so there's a massive difference

Massive indeed. Clear lines of separation, and enough usage to warrant the separation.

The Locker Room board is meant for players past and present who represent(ed) the Melbourne Football Club with distinction.

I've checked the records and no Lord Voldemort ever represented Melbourne at all ... let alone with distinction.

I've therefore moved that thread back to the general Demons board. I'm fielding suggestions from some who want us to have a separate board for reprobates and people with bad haircuts but at this stage I think that's a non starter.

Thanks Jack

Just my opinion but I think the Locker Room should be just for current players currently in the real current locker room

Discussion of past players if it comes up can stay on the footy board

Keeps it nice and simple

Doesn't have to be perfect Rogue - it won't be. It just has to be better.

Newsworthy "Gawn does knee", "Sylvia crashes car" or "Watts wins Brownlow" threads should start on the main board and continue there for a period but then thay can be merged back into the Locker Room thread at some point.

Match threads will contain player discussion that belongs in them, it's certainly a grey area when this warrants being moved to the Locker Room.

Now we have a 'Locker Room', I'm looking forward to the 'Knocker Room', where posters slag off at each other.

Then we can have an 'Ocker Room', a 'Shocker Room' and if Robert de Niro can be persuaded to buy an MFC membership, a 'Focker Room'.

BTW, I think the Locker Room concept is a good one.

Merging player threads from the main board when they run out of steam there.

Haven't voiced my opinion on this board, and potentially no one cares anyway, but FWIW I don't like it. Maybe it's just because this separation is new, but I always forget to check here for player threads, and I still go to the main board and wonder why there aren't threads there. I never seem to have that problem at draft time when we do the separate drafting board.

Anyway. Totally inconsequential really. Keep up the hard work mods!

The reason why I like this is because the players and the coach are 'constants' in the Land of Demon.

We always post about them, and with the main board we would have about 100 threads on each player after a few years.

This way, it is all in one and people can look through them and say to themselves "oh, this has been discussed, I don't need to post 'why hasn't anyone posted how Jones is improving?'"

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
