Fair call, but i don't think a defenders position is the best place. But after last year i am certainly not against the best person. All things need to be weighed up.

I think being in backline provides you with an advantage as captain, in terms of organising your "troops" and seeing the play develop.

You can see where your attack is breaking down and/or where the opposition may be getting on top in the midfield, aiding in making real-time adjustments.

fair point, but tbh i think the on field role of a captain is basically just to play well and lead by example.

An even better spot than the backline to view the play is from the coaches box, and runners make real time adjustments...

Frawley from what i can tell... is not the sharpest tool in the shed. Great player, but off field im not sure hes right. Even his cousin Danny has said numerous times that hes got a bit of air in his noggin.

I'd rather just let him play and do the hell of a job he has been doing these parts few years.

I cant pick yet, from an outsiders view its tough. I know i want Trengove in 2013/14 but i feel he is just not quite ready yet.

Of those, I would go for Chip. He's a proven performer, young and goes 100% out on the field. The only thing about him is does he have the "presence" of a captain?

I don't think either of Trenners or Grimes should have the captaincy next year, JT is still a year or two off IMO and Grimes should start by just trying to get through the year. Both are guns and in a year or two will probably face off for the role, but not yet.

Would not be surprised to see JT get the nod. Is he too young ? Probably. From all reports he has shown leadership qualities from day one and looking at him onfield, he never drops the head, always chases and does the team things.

It would be a brave move and quite un-Melbourne like. If we were to be brave my feeling is that JT would not be the wrong choice to be brave about.

If Grimes wasnt so fragile ( to date) he would have been a monty.

Wayne Carey became captain of North when he was 21. There is no doubt that he grew into the role, and was one of the best captains (Excluding his sleeping with other team mates misseses) and one of the best in field.

There is no doubt that it can happen, and with such a young and inexperienced list that we have I can't see why we couldn't give JT the captaincy.

I for mine hope he gets it and remains a captain for the red and blue for the next 10 years...

If he is captain material then why hold him back? If he is then he will deliver. On field leadership is a cornerstone for success. Why give it to some crack filler?

It's funny how we all view what happens on a footy field quite differently. I don't overly rate Moloney as a footballer and reckon we've been beset with his type for decades, which is one of the reasons that real success has escaped us. Like others, I feel that he's found wanting when pitted against elite midfielders, but holds his own against lesser lights. Imo, he would have hardly got a game at Geelong over the last 5 years. In other words, I don't want him to captain our club as I feel the station to be above him. For this same reason I don't want Jones.

Btw, I know people will point to his top 10 finish in the Brownlow this year as well as a win in the B&F, etc, but these accolades aren't nearly as meritorious when you're the best and one of the most most senior of a pretty ordinary lot. As mentioned, we all have differing opinions of players that represent this club.
