What I'm thinking, looking at that, is that there is going to be a few more delistings next year, to upgrade rookies and get picks. That's assuming our rookies don't go downhill. Lawrence may get a chance next year as a small forward.

IMO we've kept Bater to give him another full Year to prove he's turned the corner and found some more touch with the ball, allowing him to run through the middle. He has the body size we need, but needs the ball handling to go with it. He showed big improvement late in the season. So hopefully he can keep developing his hands, and his 'Insight'...

IMO, this is why we are keeping the rookies in their rookie spots, to keep them on their toes, building they're bodies, and they're Games. Maybe one could be our small back, eventually???

Surprised that Nicholson wasn't upgraded, in fact very surprised and also I thought that Mark Jamar could be snuck in the veterans list or something as a player over 28 who has played 10 or more years at his club. Could've opened up a spot for Nicholson/Evans. I can see us drafting some mature age rookies this year, got a good feeling about it too.

The rule of being a veteran is that a player needs to turn 30 by September 30 in the year that he becomes a veteran that also sees him being at the club for 10 years.

There might well be more delistings next year, after all it has been mentioned many times that next year's draft is a big one in terms of talent. We could just as easily see the same amount of delistings and rookie delistings as this year. Remembering we have much youth and we'll need to delist at least 3 the following year.

Surely a fair few guernsey # upgrades in light of more departures and only 3 picks in the ND.

1, 11, 17, 19, 23, 25, 26, 29 30, 31, 32, 33 all available.

Forget the guernsey number upgrades -- I reckon that Liam is only half the player at #24 that he was at #48 -- maybe make him #96 and he will be unstappable.

Re: Nicholson - Rookie upgrades are now done through the National Draft. I wouldn't be surprised to hear: "Selection 54, Melbourne, Player number 123456, Daniel Nicholson".

Re: Jamar - The player must turn 30 in that particular season and have been at the club for over 10 years to qualify for the Veterans list. (Sorry looks like JCB covered this)

If that is the case then yeh i reckon that Nicholson will be upgraded. He is so strong so far in the pre season and i would imagine that the coaches would be taking note. Also i think this Jamar thing might've been possible because with free agency there was something like what i said where we can sneak him in as a veteran. Oh well, someone else can do the research on that one. Ceebs

Nicho has already agreed to another year on the RL.

Good list management by melbourne would mean Nicholson and Evans stay the full three years on the rookie list unless they dominate or drop off.

I think Mckenzi was kept the full three years on the RL.

It's two years.

It's two years.

Yes. Players can be on the Rookie list for three years, but to get the third year you have to run the gauntlet of waiting until all of the other clubs have had a chance to select them in the draft. Nicho, and ,I think. Evans would not last until we could get them back.

Not sure, but with Free Agency about to come in didn't they remove the age requirement for Veterans,.... meaning it's only 10 years of service,... which I thought allows him to qualify.

Might be wrong here, but fairly sure that this was the case...

I seem to remember some change like that but I don't think it applies this year

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
