It seems that Bailey wasn't the great on communicator after all; I find it appalling that Warnock wasn’t told what he had done wrong and what he needed to do to rectify the problem.

I still reckon you can’t have Warnock and Joel Mac in the same team but you can have one or the other, I reckon Warnock has more upside than Joel.

As Brereton said this morning, Warnock would be a good fit in a side that has a lot of skilled players around him but not in a side that had other poor decision makers

Grain of salt.

Whether you like him or not every single person on this forum have outlined his weaknesses in detail and these havent differed at all. Yet you think the coaching staff kept it a secret from him.

Edit: my two cents worth- I much prefer Joel Mac - first of all Joel is way more creative and attacking. The knock on Warnock is his decision making and disposal. The knock on Joel in the main is his kicking. I dont think he generally makes poor decisions just poor execution. Also Warnock looks like he has hand grenade with no pin in his hand as soon as he gets the pill.

Who knows what Neeld might think. He was Collingwood backline coach for 2 years with Presti as the pea, he might rate Warnock - he's meeting with the players today and could turn him around if he wants him.

Farren Ray....you're kidding yourself. He isn't the list clogger we would want

Lynch & Stanley on the other hand- very limited game time like most of the young Saints.

Lynch and Stanley both play for the Saints also, Lynch at the suns is worth a top pick not Warnock lol

If true, this is disgraceful by Bailey, also though if your out of the team for so long, i would be asking what is up and expecting an answer

So you reckon he shouldn't have worried about the coach he should have just taken a bit more notice of the posters on here?

This is what he said.

"I wasn't told any specific area to work on to get back into the side, but it's pretty clear Melbourne are going down a different direction," he said

I find it disturbing that a coach who only has 40 odd players under him, couldn't take the time out to explain where one of them was going wrong, dont you?

But then again the real reason was here, clear and simple.

Warnock is exactly the type iof player we will need, all we have to do is iron out the faults.

Would you say the same for Bartram? They share similar faults. I don't share your view that Warnock is what we need, but I'm interested in your point of view.

This isn't the first time I've heard that Bailey (and/or the entire coaching team) was poor at communicating with players who are out of the side. I do wonder how much onus is on the coach and how much is on the player though - if you're not automatically getting the answers you want from the coach, what stops you from knocking on his door and saying "hey Dean, what do I need to do to get back in the side?".

He's 26 isn't he?

Ask your boss why he isn't playing you.

I firmly believe that the reason Warnock is so highly thought of by posters is because he didn't play much this year...

Could well end up just cutting him if there's no clubs competing for his services. GWS in the PSD anyone ? They could need some help down back for Davis.

We have other players that can perform the job that Bartram does but not too many that are big and quick like Warnock. I met Matty at the Airport in WA after the Freo Final a couple of years ago and he is a very unassuming sort of guy so it wouldn't surprise me if he didn't call on the coach. The coach has around 40 players on the list and I find it surprising that he can't communicate to them what they have to do to get back in to contention for a senior game. Would it be that hard to call the player aside at training, once in a while, and say to him you need to pick up on this sapect of your game if you want to get back in the side?

I employ people and I will tell them what they are doing wrong, if indeed they are, I don't expect them to seek reassurance from me every so often.

You know what's funny about this; if he was on the outer at another club half the posters on here would be saying we should trade for him, but that's footy isn't it?

There's two sides to every story, and maybe it wasn't what he had done wrong or had to improve, but simply that more talented players had gone past him, and were playing each week, and there was no place in the team for him.

We don't have that many "talented players" in the backline that we can ignore one the size of Warnock.

As I said above, if he was playing for, say Hawthorn next year and was doing well, half the posters on here would be looking to trade for him.

There are enough games a year, where we need a bigger body, to warrant keeping him on, but that's just my opinion and the club may view it differently.

Don't get me wrong I've been critical of Warnock in the past, but it's been mainly because he and Joel Mac are just hopeless together.

Must confess , not that its going to matter now , but id be curious as to the real story with Matty. ..s.i. l.

"I want to be a one club player and I anticipate that will be the case" - Tom Scully. I am over everyones "Words" - actions..its all about actions

There is a match review every week with the team - lets fast forward over Matty;s part comes up so he doesnt know where he went wrong.

I find it difficult to believe that there as no discussion around his performance. But taking him completely at face value - if Matthew Warnock after watching a replay had no idea what he needed to improve then we should trade for a 100091010th draft pick.

Probably what they should have done earlier is said - Matty, we see you as nothing more than depth for injuries. But to say he wasnt told where he needed to improve....spare me. He should have just said - "they are heading in a different direction"

didnt play well at seniors - ripped it up at Casey - ticket was written ( rightly or wrongly) you arent a senior MFC player

I have a small problem with analysis by experts of lesser light footballers.

If i hear one more time what an excellent kick of the football that Simon Buckley was coming from Melbourne ill vomit.

Their views on footballers who they may 4 - 6 times years on many occasions leaves a lot to be desired

Your post could have been written by a Warnock hater and it would have served the same purpose. Warnock isn't up to it. Club knows it, I know it, fans know it.

Hopefully we can get something for himout of desperation from a club that thinks he might fill a hole for them.

I think we can get a first rounder for Warnock. 2nd rounder each for Bate and Dunn and a 3rd rounder for Maric. That's about 17, 34, 35, 46. We should then trade all of these to get say pick 1 or 2. Using those picks we could get John Patton.

    TRAINING: Wednesday 19th February 2025

Demonlander The Analyser was the sole Trackwatcher out at Casey Fields today to bring you the following observations from this mornings preseason training session. Training  was at Casey today. It consisted of a match simulation for one half  and then a free choice activity time. Activities included kicking for goal,  aerial , contest work etc. I noticed the following players not in match simulation Jack Viney  running laps and looks fine for round one . I think Kolt looks like he’s im

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
