Tom Scully in September ...

Grandson of a gun

3rd party offers were there, but jumped on by Vlad.. its an equal playing field huh !!! lol . The AFL is making sure the 'move' all goes to plan.

It works better for us to get as much 'positive " press as we can. This augments the position that the AFL needs to compensate us satisfactorily.

its only an opinion I grant you.:)

They sure were and he sure did.

quick interview with him at the airport today on TAC cup future stars.

Looked gone IMO.

Played the "going up to have a look and see what happens from there", but looks gone.

Really?

What convinced you?

The way he looked uncomfortable being chased by Hutchy's camera crew through an airport?

Or his posture as he stood in line to check in?

Oh, I know, was it the t-shirt he chose to wear?

Had a bit of orange in it. Just like GWS. Yep, sold.

Old man- This saga isn't a blight on us, this was the whole organization pitted against our club. We had no chance to compete- Vlad saw to that.

Really SwoonieMcwhatever

This is a major continuation of our downward spiral hardluck story

How many other No.1 draft picks have departed the clubs inside of two years.

None of the Power Clubs would of allowed this to go down & be played out like this saga has!

We need to harden up & grow up in a hurry or we will not be around.

Correct.

And speaking of Power Clubs let's not dismiss Eddie McGuire's role in all of this as well, for he was the first one to lob the Scully/GW$ hand grenade into the public arena back in April.

How bad does that stink now looking back on it? He knew the truth and his motivations for doing it now become clear to all but the most dim-witted.

"Demetriou handballs to Sheedy, who flips it over to Graeme Allen. Allen passes it to Mcguire and it's a goal to Collingwood!"

Strong clubs don't loose number 1 draftees

Weak clubs loose number 1 draftees

Cobblers..

The current circumstances are unique in the history of this game.

What other #1 pick has ever been offered 5-6 million ?? Hint...its a really realy short list

We can't match the $$. I don't know how the other players would feel playing against someone who has been given so much more to play without proving himself. I'm sure it would leave a bit of sour taste in their mouths.

The word is 'lose' not 'loose'.

Possibly. But has there ever been a situation quite like this?

Anyway, remember the MFC said they tossed a coin as to whether Trengove or Scully would be the #1 pick.

So come on all you doomsayers, instead of endlessly saying how weak our club is, what about saying we kept a #1 pick in Trengove despite the megabucks being tossed around by the AFL's desperation to expand into Sydney at all costs (at least costs to smaller Vic clubs).

edit to add: But I wouldn't be mentioning that when looking for compensation!

It's over.

He (or those around him) have shown no loyalty to anything but the dollar in their pockets.

Admittedly the entire scenario has been set up that way - which is totally unfair on us, but more on making it so attractive for him, to make the move.

This was yet one more distraction, we could have done without this season.

More, if we manage to give him a whopping pay cheque and he signs with us,

1. It will up the anti for all the other players (he's not Judd or Ablett.

2. Will this mean we go through the same, "it's all about me" scenario again, in a couple of year's time?

3. If so, it won't just be young Tom who wants such "special treatment".

This is the Melbourne Football Club, not the Tom Scully Benefit Society.

Of the players that fit the GWS profile of recruitment so far

Murphy

Kreuzer

Where both on the GWS radar there was never any doubt they weren't staying.

I dont know what they were offered but than again you don't really know what Scully's been offered

You need to harden up and grow up in a hurry son. Don't give me this woe is us downward spiral hardluck story. How do you compete against the AFL? You don't. You sit there face down bum up and take it.

Then you dry the tears and move on with life.

Good way of looking at it. In another sense, would he have been so "attractive" to GWS if we'd picked him at #2 instead ?

One might say it was fortunate the coin landed as it did.Otherwise we might be having to fend off GWS from Trengove instead.

But then again, he has already shown he is a club man. In the end "kharma" might prevail.

Hardening up and growing up is one thing (I think most of us would agree that's what we need to do), but let's not go kidding ourselves that this isn't a spectacular humiliation for our club.

It's inconceivable that such an injustice would have been carried out against the Essendons, Carltons and Collingwoods of this world.

Hopefully, like all bad experiences, it will serve to harden our character and toughen us up. Hopefully. OMR is right that such a development would go against the grain of our 'hardluck story'.

We can only hope. Over to you Gaz Lyon and co.

No, it's neither.

This is a player making a decision on his future, while a host of insecure supporters watch on through a microscope.

Either he's bigger than the club, or he isn't.

If he isn't, what's all the fuss about?

Let the kid make his decision, and if he goes we deal with it.

you forgot to add "IMO" because without precedent that's just your opinion. Given the same circumstances (not allowing 3rd party help) they would have had to cop it like we did.

Unless you are suggesting the AFL have it in for us. I simply don't buy that.

I don't need to add IMO because I have been commenting on this matter since March this year. I have about 1000 posts on it from my other profile which I can't access for some reason (had to make a new one last night).

I called this sucker 6 months ago. Not to mention, I have been ripped to shreds by many posters for airing such an unpopular opinion (I even copped a week long ban there at one point!), so forgive me a little largesse in expressing it now that the cards have fallen my way.

You are new, so I'll forgive you.

It's not that the AFL have it in for us, but they certainly would view us as an 'easy touch', as another poster put it recently.

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak
