Coaching suggestion- out of left field

Let's see.

1) It is generally agreed we need an experienced coach

2) We need a strong character and leader

3) We need someone who is clear thinking and a strong tactician.

4) We need someone who the players want to compete for

I feel that we might be narrowing in too much on current candidates or recent retirees. Lets look further abroad, think outside the box and maybe even consider people who coached 3,4 or 5 years ago.

I welcome suggestions but wonder how people feel about Grant Thomas? His weakness may be his PR skills but I can guarantee you all one thing. The players would never be in doubt as to what is required.

Anyone else?

I think you should take whatever medication you have been given and have a good lie down, no no and no

I have thought this for some time.

People may not like Grant Thomas but he has runs on the board. St Kilda were flying under him and he took them to a number of preliminary finals from memory and was only unceremoniously dumped by egotistical in fighting at St Kilda (Butters).

He is a tough, uncompromising man and i think that he would be a near perfect fit (behind Clarkson and Malthouse)for our young list.

He doesn't put up with weak characters and players that won't play for each other and more importantly the jumper.

We need a hard-nosed coach who doesn't sugar coat things and can demand committment.

I agree. He is behind Eade, Malthouse and Clarkson for mine but, i still think he would be a good fit.

With regard to people that call him a [censored], this isn't a popularity contest. We are trying to get into the finals and win a premiership. I wouldn't care if Ivan Milat were coach as long as our boys are successful.

I'd think about Head coaching team of

Grant Thomas/Garry Lyon

Dean laidley/Wayne Carey

Garry Lyon/Wayne Carey

Dean Laidley/Garry Lyon

or Wayne Carey

I think this is called clutching at straws......Carey, great player but a dick as a person, no credibility no matter how hard he tries, Lyon does not need the stress, Thomas may be a good coach but highly divisive, not what we need now, Laidley see Thomas........

Throwing an ego like Thomas's into an already dysfunctional (from all reports) football club, would only make things so much worse. The guys a dropkick.

I like the idea. We need someone who is prepared to be extremely tough on the players and make them accountable for their performances. I want someone that can strike a little bit of fear into them. In the end Bailey was too nice a man to be a coach i think.

Laidley was the first name to come into my mind and I still reckon he is a good candidate. I reckon they threw him out too early at the Roos. Yes, their preliminary final appearance was too early, but he did get them there with an avergae list. I can only dream of what he might achieve with our list.

Regarding Wayne Carey - 2nd best player I have ever seen and yes, another absolute dysfunctioal dill that footy seems to produce in huge numbers. But he has made huge character changes over the past 12 months and there is nothing stronger or better than someone who understands all the rubbish, but is changing. He is not perfect by any stretch but he is a much better person than he was 2 years ago (or seems to be, I don't know him personally). I no longer have the same concerns over the negative influence of his character. But can you imagine his footy smarts, influence and presence among our young list? Can you imagine Watts, Petterd, Cook, Maric ,Wonna under the influence of Carey as a forward coach?

IMO, the Laidley/Carey team is sounding very attractive.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
