the bloke isnt smart though

"Sorry for the @(Real)_ColSylvia, but someone made a fake 1st time rnd so thought i'd run with this! Excited about what the future may have installed...

When did he tweet this? Maybe earlier in year and he was referring to the next few years with Melbourne?

I think it would be a HUGE loss if Colin went. In fact, if we lose Scully and Sylvia, this year will be a disaster.

This was done mid last year when a few guys set up a fake account for Col on Twitter. He then made his own account. This is whats in the profile (not an actual Tweet) that was done mid last year when set up. So he is talking about his future on Twitter.

Would take a fair bit for Col to leave as he loves Melbourne and is best mates with Brent Moloney.

You would have to think that the looming advent of Free Agency and its particualr indluence on players of such service as Colin that the club is probably looking to 2 year contracts as a norm.

Everyone I suppose is deserving of a fair shake of the tree and possibly Colin , more than another certain player , could legitimately throw attention to the upcoming CBA.

I can only think the club is smartening up and conrtucting payments a lot more around performance than in the past.

To be honest.. Col's a bit of an enigma. Hes hot hes cold. During many of the games this year when we needed some senior presence Sylvia was amongst the missing.

He put s in some great games, but far too few. He puts in far more Good qtrs than he does entire games..

Hes replacable. He might be just fishing for another good contract at the Dees..or be genuine in starting afresh.

Wouldnt worry me if he went....Just make sure we get someting decent in return, thats all.

Col reminds me a lot of Travis Johnstone. extremely gifted athlete who we constantly look forward to seeing become an elite player. Travis teased us with some fabulous talent -- albeit far too seldom.

Col's development has no doubt been heavily interrupted through injury. But, this year he has been more consistent and I'm hoping we are about to see the full blossoming of what is a rare talent. He's a tough, uncompromising mid-fielder who can take a mark, and knows where the goals are. They don't grow on trees!

A couple of his runs through the middle last week, delivery the ball into the forward 50, had my salivating.

So, yes, I really want him to sign another contract with the Dees. I would hate his best years to be played at another club!

I wonder if it's a case of keeping either Sylv or Scully. We've reportedly offered Scully $700k/year. So if Scully leaves, that space in the cap is available to make a sizeable offer to Syvia.

I dont think so. We should be able to accomodate both. Although Sylvia would be on far less coin than Scully.

I don't want Colin to hold us to ransom...

He will take what we can afford or he can leave...

His kicking isn't that great either...

He's not worth that figure now and we don't now if he ever will...

He wasn't smiling at the membership drive in the 6 minutes I saw him there - this means he doesn't love the club...

He has to decide now whether he is with us, or with the terrorists...

God, we are now stooping to picking up players for grammatical errors on Twitter??? :o Ever consider the possibility it may have been the predictive text on his phone kicking in?

Now that you mention it, I recall seeing a photo of Colin and Tom together the other day (was it on Twitter?), and guess what... they were both smiling. Hmmmmmmmm...

Was this post tongue in cheek??? Still have trouble telling the difference.

In my humble opinion, Col is one of the better (top 5) kicks at the club.

Smiling at the membership drive WTF? this surely has to be a joke, maybe you shouldn't have asked him to sign your chest.

Do players have any loyalty? Col is great and he's a key to our future, but he's been with us for a long time and been very up and down. He's finally got his head screwed on and his playing some consistant good footy. Yet just as he starts showing something he could leave because our offer isn't good enough, you cant play 1 full season of decent footy and expect a contract to set you up for life.

So here were are being blackmailed again like with Cameron Bruce...

It was TOC.

All those things have been said about Tom Scully.

That was the balance of my point.

In what way is holding out to see what is on offer, "blackmail"? Perhaps the club should be considering delisting Davey and Green, because that's exactly what they did.

I reckon Col would be favourite for our B&F this year. He has finally put a full season together after much injury and is 25 and is about to hit his straps. Logic says we should be doing everything we can to keep him. He is tough, quick, can jump, can take a mark & kick goals from outside 50.

I am wary though of the "Travis Johnstone" example of playing blinding years in the final year of their contract and then becoming complacent until the next contract comes around. At the moment though I reckon Col's been building consistency over the last 3 years and has really improved and matured. I think he'll only get better from here and would be trying to secure him. It would be interesting to see what he was worth on the trade table though but at this stage I think we need to keep the harder-bodied midfielders to protect the kids as they develop.

Yeah good point. Sad really.

What next ... "oh there all just a bunch of stupid footballers" (which I personally dont agree with) ... the path is becoming very clear.

Isn't there an emoticons rule or something in operation, either I am as smart as a plank, or some of the dross that gets posted makes its difficult to differentiate between TIC and serious opinion.

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo
