Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Its been talked about that we lack a big bloke to hold down a forward position. We tried to get Hale this year without luck.

Times right at the end of the year for us to snag a name from another side.

Has to be Big & Strong (eg. Brown Collingwood)

Why couldn't we try for Taylor Walker from Crows 194cm and 98kg hes a big bugger and would compliment Jurrah, Watts.

I think even Tom Hawkins would be a good target, Wasn't he in same era as Watts?

Anyway you get my drift, I think its one of our missing links.

Who should target ?

After today with Fev kicking 10, maybe him. Big strong and a point to prove, plus knows the team already. Can you Rookie list a former star lol.

Most reports I've heard have Taylor Walker at GWS next year.

Jessie White could be a possibility. Even though he has all the hallmarks of a top forward, it just doesn't appear to be working for him at the Swans. Both parties may be open to a change of scenery (for the right deal).

Yeah know the news about GWS and Walker, so will prob take the cash, but we should at least have a crack.

My thoughts are we need someone who can split packs, create mayhem, kick a few goals and take the heat off Jurrah and Watts.

Cook is developing but, will be a while before he may be that type.

Maybe Fev as your last pick, for a one year contract. If he was 100% fit, keen, mentally right, Know one could convince me otherwise that he wouldn't improve our side.

Ah, the key forward debate's back! Comes up at some stage every year! Remember Hawkins and Walker being talked about in the past too! As always, agree we're currently lacking a big, stay at home forward but I'd like to just back one of our own to fill that void - Watts, Fitz, Cook?? Remember last year our big target was a 2nd ruck and now Stef has filled in with perfection, it happens! I spose we could look into it in case though

Like the idea of Taylor Walker, bit of a ratbag but has heaps of potential. Would love to get Tom-a-Hawk but seriously doubt the cats will let him go, they love him down there…

Good idea with Fev but I think he's too old for our Youth Policy, think he'll be 30 next year… Would seriously consider if he was 2 years younger

I don't buy into the Age thing, Barry Hall is 34 I think and still going ok. So im basing on the fact that a Fev would be fit to play etc, he could play to 35. How old was Alister Lynch when Brisbane won their flags.

All that matters is he is fit and playing to team rules and playing well. Then shouldn't matter what age he is.

Fevola could be the man,

Dont get me wrong i understand the issues he may cause but if he pulled his head in and worked and trained hard there is no doubt that with some decent delivery that he would fill that role, alot will depend on what happens in the next 7 weeks and then until draft time, he has also played a very team orientated role which is why today was his first huge haul, making room for Bate and Dunn, one reason why Bate has been able to snag so many goals at VFL level i doubt we would take the risk....

BUT imagine a 70 goal Fev in our team....could decide quite a few games

Good god, will people stop suggesting dud key forwards as if they're going to fix all our problems.

Hawkins and Jesse White are both spuds and would continue to be so at our club. Taylor Walker has promise, but no moreso than Cook or Watts and its a moot point anyways because he's already signed a deal with GWS. Fev is not the player he used to do, people need to get over the romanticised version of the type of player he could be back at afl. he's a cancer to any club he's at.

Yes we need a key forward... but what we need to do is develop our own key forwards- Cook, Watts and Fitzpatrick.

And if we're going to trade in a key forward we need to throw big money at a seriously quality one- like Dawes or Cloke from Collingwood.

If scull goes and we get 2 picks... We may have some cap room for a 2 Year contract, whilst Cooky and Fitzpatrick mature. And we could then use those picks to further our young list well into the future.

Cook is coming on fine, but will need a big strong forward to keep the heat off him & Watts.

FF/ Martin - Fev - Davey

HF/ Petterd - Watts/Cook - Jurrah

No way should we get Fev. Even with our last rookie spot.

We need someone who will be around for 5 years minimum.

We lack tall forwards. I would be happy to have a shot at Jesse White. When his name came up a few years ago people said 'No way would Sydney let him go.' Is out of favor and should come cheaply now.

I don't think we need to trade for someone. Cook and Fitzpatrick are building up and they are both pretty good from all reports. Bailey has already mentioned Fitzpatrick as being earmarked for the role when he puts on a bit more bulk. Over the next few years we should see a drastic improvement in our forward 50 as these guys get a foothold in the side.

We've got young Fitzpatrick who'll come through to get his first game next year. At 201 cms, he's a Tall who would be in the mold of Jesse, without that transfer pricetag. And we have Martin learning & developing & Jamar to go forward.

So we have a mature Jamar, a learning Martin who'll take poss' another 12 months to hit his forward straps,,, with Watts now coming through but will take another 2 years to fill out before he can play deep on a regular basis.

Cook who is just showing his Class in patches @ VFL level, may get one game this year as a taste. Next year will be a year for him to get some AFL games, maybe 6 - 10,,, so he would still be most likely a 2013 - 2014 prospect...

Fitzpatrick is a bit behind Cooks timeframe, 2014 - 2015 IMO for him...

Watts 2013 before he has the body to match up like a Cloke does... so he'll prob' continue the leadup type role until he's bigger.

So atmo we have Jamar, Martin as mature frames, & some mobile medium forwards to create mischief,,, rather than causing Havoc.

If, we want to speed up our rise up the ladder, we need to find a mature deep power forward.

You may be right. I just had a quick look at Jesse Whites stats from a few years ago. Nothing to write home about.

In my eyes Jamar and Martin will never be forwards. Basically we have Cook, Watts, Fitzpatrick.

That's not much. Especially as Watts may not be a traditional tall forward.

Jamar/Martin would be get out long kick options..

Fitzpatrick is that tall like a Paul Salmon or Tippett type.

What we don't have is a true full forward in the old model, to play as the different body shape style to the Rucks and the Skyscraper/beanpole types.

Watts/Cook/Fitzpatrick are 3 years off being dominant. and then there's Gawn as well to come through. He's also probably at least a 2013 prospect, as a forward presence.

I think a Fev would cost @ most a 2nd Rnd Pick, to maybe a rookie spot...

IMO Wattsy will end up something in between a Matthew Richardson/Nick Riewoldt in body size. IMO bigger than Riewoldt.

I love the idea, considering we have the blue-chip midfield we've always wanted as demons fans since... well... since I've been alive... I don't hate the Sydney model whete they just keep recruiting big forwards as they peter out in their careers... but they pick them up from clubs that are having trouble with delivery from their midfields.

I like the White one. Though I'm not sure he has as much upside as we would perhaps need. The Fev one I'm warming to, and I'll tell you why. I really think that the AFL, over the space of the next 20-30 years will get more and more like the NFL. In their game, they recruit players from absolutely anywhere, and at older ages than you would think. They're certainly not as youth obsessed as we are. If you had told me about a player who had great form in the VFL, had developed late, kicked big bags regularly, and had found improvement you didn't know was there.... I'd have given serious thought to giving him a rookie spot. If you told me he'd won a couple of Colemans I'd be jumping at it. It's really only the peanut factor that makes me question it, as it is with everyone.

I think all in all if you plan to use him for 15 games in the year at least, and you're SURE he'll behave, then go for it. But if he's only on the list as a get-out clause, like what Campbell is now... then forget it. Not worth poisoning the list if you're not going to get 30 goals from him.

The main aspect I like about recruiting players for 1-2 years is that you don't get left with a Newton situation. We keep going for these massively speculative picks... because that's how you recruit young KP players. If you want a good one, you have to use a first round pick. And with recruiting being as it is, usually they end up in the first few picks.

All in all, I'd rather us offer a couple of years to an out of contract free agent-type player, while allowing Jack to stay in his spot, than to go for some NQR youngster that asks for WAY more money than he's worth.

On Taylor Walker , there was an article in the sun yesterday that he is more of a chance to go to the swans than GWS. Ithink Fev would be good on the rookie list if no one else picks him up. Seems to be doing everything right at Casey.

One swallow does not a summer make - versus Frankston which is one of the weaker teams and with the likes of Davey, Warnock, Bartram, Dunn, Bate, Gawn etc. I suspect he had a perfect supply. Dont get me wrong I will look at him but I have strong reservations about the idea that one "saviour" will change things for us. Plus there is the consistency of his off field behaviour which would be of great concern.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
