Malthouse would be a mistake. Wrong personality for a very young developing group. Angry, small man, who denegrates people who don't see eye to eye with him. I think he's overrated. West Coast were the WA State team when he went their versus everyone else who were just Club teams. All he managed was two flags, it should have been 4 or 5. It's taken him 10yrs with the best facilities and limitless amounts of money to throw at the Football Dept and he's got one Premiership.

He has played off in 4 GF's though in that period with the Pies. Meeting the Lions during their peak was akin to us meeting the Bombers in 2000 so I think you're being a bit harsh on him.

Me too KiL.

He has changed quite a lot of the team since the Lions defeats and they are still a young team.

Still a lot on here hate him and if he walked on water tonight they would not acknowledge it.

Paving the way?

He (Barassi) and Jordan & the support coaches/selector team led through Dick Seddon Paved the Road, the Car Park, & the Professionalism @ the Club.

Not to mention Healey, Lyon, Wight, Stynes, Grinter, Tingay, GLovett, BLovett, SFebey, MFebey, Todd Viney, O'donnell, Connelly, O'Dwyer, DWilliams, BWilson, PMoore, DHughes, GYeates, etc, etc, etc...

And you & me.

It would be very unfair for malthouse to come in and claim a list that has been created for him after years of hard work and torment by others and enjoy the succeses.

I agree that it's doubtful, but I'm more interested in success than fairness.

I really can't see Mick coming over.

IF. and it's a BIG IF, he decides to leave the Pies prior to his 2 year role with the Pies expiring then to my way of thinking......

1. His heart lays with the Tigers not the Demons. If he's going to see his days out somewhere to me it would be in a role similar to that of Bomber Thompson at the Tigers assisting Hardwick. He has stated his heart lies at the Tigers (still), where he spent the bulk of his playing days and played in a premiership.

2. I just don't think we'd have the budget to bring him and his entourage over, either as head coach or Director/Assistant role to Bailey in a Thompson/Essendon type set up.

3. He's supposedly signed a 2 year contract with the Pies already. Seems to be a strong man of principle and word. Doubt he'd go back on that.

The only SLIM possible chance i see in a Mick/Melbourne partnership is a Thompson type role alongside or overseeing Bailey. However, he would have to be willing to accept something less than what he'd be getting at the Pies and probably alot less than Thompson, in order for us to accommodate him.

Does anyone here think he loves the Demons enough to do that in his twilight years?

Thats the only way I'd go for him, if it was as an temp move, to get his I,Tech & to mentor a Bailey/Viney arrangement.

I listen to KB most mornings too, and everytime I do I wonder why. Almost everything he says is Bull#$%^&.

In reagrd to MTM, I would Bailey another year. The Geelong experience showed me that it is as much about the playing group as the coach, and if you look at most premiership teams they have had the same coach for at least 4 or 5 yeasr before they achieve success. I would prefer to stick with Bailey than wait another 4 or 5 years for success. I think we are on track for success in 2013/14.

And an afterthought... There is one thing that this board has done very well, and it is managed communications very well. Cannot imagine that if the club is after Malthouse it would be leaked to the media by someone running into KB. They have managed stuff a lot better than that.

Can't stand malthouse. Would rather lose without him than win with him.

Now WAClark it is time to take a deep breath.

Get up from the computer, take a couple of Bex and have a good lie down.

Tomorrow is another day.

It cannot be that bad mate.

The sun will come up

Relax

KB reported that he ran into a prominent businessman last night at the soccer.

This businessman was also a very influential Dees supporter.

When quizzed by KB, the call was...'we've got too many other good players to worry about, BUT we're all about MTM.....'

When translated the acronym stands for MALTHOUSE TO MELBOURNE.

Interesting....the thought is that Malthouse will generate his own salary by the number of new members he would attract.

Thoughts?

Now I know why I dont listen to KB any more. Tell him to get back to Punt Road and spin some crap about them.

True, although harder to keep third party sponsors quiet because it invovles reaching out to third parties! A contact with another coach would only require contact with the coach and the manager.

Why does anyone need to leak it?

It really doesn't take a genius to guess that's what would happen.

Even Mark Robinson could have figured it out.

If Malthouse is available, he's worth talking to, regardless of his idiosyncrasies! On another thread, Neeld and Sanderson were mentioned. Don't know much about Neeld, but Sanderson's pedigree makes him well worth considering.

Makes sense, look who the CEO is at Carlscum.

There's nothing I like about Carlton, but I respect their ruthfulness. Carlton are ruthless enough to turf Ratten even if he wins a final.

I cant see malthouse at carlton what so ever... Rattern has them in great shape for a good crack at the finals . It wont happen. Too many people want to see a conspiracy everywhere they look!

You obviously have a different view to those Carlton people who have sounded him out.

For entertainment. Treat SEN as a group of blokes sitting around talking footy. Most of it you won't agree with but you do want to join in and say your bit.

(hate his journo guests though!)

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
