Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I totally agree that a bit of tlc might lead to a bit of much needed confidence, but if that's the case he will need to learn to bounce back quickly each time he gets knocked down. As we all know, the caper he has chosen for his career can be pretty brutal.

ps. I don't think the fact that Cale has been moved from pillar to post (and never really had a position he could claim as his own) has helped his confidence and apparent fragility.

I just refuse to believe that a kid who plays nearly every game at 18 in his first year, can fall apart as a footballer when he is 2 years older and a bit more experienced and stronger. There is more at play here as well as his injuries and interrupted pre seasons. Next year should be his year to grab a position and show us what he has got.

I can't disagree with any of that Redleg, but I do think the way the game has changed in the last couple of years means that he now needs to be more accounable than was in his rookie year. I hope he can live up to our initial expectations.

At 194cms and mobile we have to make him into a good player, we just have to.

I am unashamedly still a believer in Cale Morton and what he could produce for us.

There is no doubt that he has been disappointing this year to date but as this team grows together i just see so much upside in him that i cannot understand why people wnat to throw him under the bus as a 21 year old.

He does have plenty of things to still work on, expecially on the defensive front, however as this team grows, Cale is the kind of player who can become the cream on the top of the cake and one of those players who can be nigh impossible to match up on when at his best.

A long, long way to go for Cale however here's hoping this week is the first step in that road back.....

Ah, a new weekend and endless more crap to ignore on the other thread. What makes me happy I suppose is that this thread could go on forever whereas the other one must expire sometime. I am a simple man and easily pleased.

You are allowed to have a quick peep old dee as long as you don't take the bait

Checking now and again is good reinforcement in why you don't want to go over to the dark side

The amount of trolling and flame baiting is unreal. Posters just keep throwing petrol on the fire for what?

I think we all want "it" resolved but that thread doesn't achieve anything except vitriol and ego aggrandisement

Did I tell you I think we can win tomorrow............

I did not inhale DC I promise.

You have more confidence than me.

IMO we have a pray if Green, Davey, Sylvia and Maloney play good games.

But as none of them have done it for 4 weeks and I doubt all of them on the same day this year it looks bleak tomorrow.

The reports on Cale Morton's last two games for Casey suggest that he has been successfully played in the middle where he has picked up 30+ possessions in each game and been close to, if not, BOG.

Dean Bailey experimented with him all over the shop and, while I don't disagree with this as a general approach for developing players. I have a feeling that in some cases, our boys became unsettled by this and lost confidence. Morton has appeared to play more freely in the VFL and Brad Gotch's approach seems to have worked. Hopefully, this can continue in his transition to the AFL, benefit the club and the player and in the end Cale can get a better contract. I think there might be a few others freed up by this approach and by the statements made by the selectors in regard to the axing of Colin Sylvia and Liam Jurrah.

As to whether we can win tomorrow, I can't discount it. After our appalling "bruise-free" display the first time v Carlton, I really didn't give us much of a chance the following week against the Bombers. I suppose I feel the same this week after the loss to the Blues but we've had such a topsy turvy season that anything could happen tomorrow.

I am down to crossing my fingers WJ

So that is how desperate I have become, zero confidence at present.

I am in the "not expecting much till 2012" mood now.

Unfortunately I have had this feeling far too often over the years.

Agree, that is how I am feeling. Probably need another banana smoothie. Maybe I will add vodka instead of honey.

PS. I am curious to see how Butcher goes for Port today.

Me too. I am grand daughter sitting tonight. Agree on the smiling bit, they can make you happy even after a 31 goal loss. Her father who is a Pies member has said she can be a Melbourne fan if he has the next one. Looks like she will get her first membership next year.

PS. Hope your daughter is ok soon.

Another blowout with Port losing by nearly 28 goals. No quick fix either with GWS and GC taking all the young talent. I think we are much better placed though than many realize.

Yes we had better beat them well in the last game or how good do we look.

Thought Butcher was good considering he was in a forward line getting very little of the ball.

After all the injury problems he might finally be getting it together.

His contract with port must be nearly up.

Anyone know his position?

I think I read somewhere he would like to be back in Victoria but you could only get him by doing a trade as he would be a priority for them to keep. You would have to give them someone good for them to even consider it. Maybe they would want a Jared Rivers who is an experienced defender and form Adelaide and even another lesser player like Bate, Maric, Warnock etc. It's worth asking the question though. Butcher, Watts and hopefully Cook, Fitzpatrick or McDonald could solve the key forward positions in the years to come.

This is probably not the thing to say on this thread, given I started it by wanting to avoid another thread, but here goes. If we lose you know who to GWS and end up getting shafted in the compensation deal, I will seriously look at whether it is worth giving so much energy to this club. I have supported the MFC all my life and have staunchly defended it and followed it both emotionally and financially as well as being a Director, Team Manager and even recruiter, but a poor compensation result would nearly be enough to finally declare us incapable of ultimate success.

If you know who leaves, he will be the only priority pick to desert his club and within 2 years of being drafted. I can live with that, despite the crap we endured to get him and the hope we pinned on him. However if the MFC as a result are incapable of ensuring proper compensation, then I will lose all confidence in them. This is not about you know who this is about us if we have to, getting proper compensation from a parent company that has cut its child off at the knees.

We have all the tools necessary to persuade the AFL to do the right thing. We have recently suffered big losses. Membership, sponsorship, donations and attendances are all at risk.

I would fight as hard as is necessary. If the AFL indicates poor compensation to us, I would start to threaten to expose some of the dirt in the AFL cupboard which we should know all about. If the AFL retaliated and got dirty threatening us with poor fixtures, I would counter with, "we will expose that threat to the media". Therefore you would be exposing Administrators who are corrupt. Their positions would then be untenable. I am sure the big clubs fight dirty, time we did.

Many will say I am overreacting and maybe I am. But in the words of Peter Finch in his last film role in Network, " I am as mad as hell and I am not going to take it anymore".

Gee the Eagles won the spoon last year and now they look good, all in one year. Can we do it next year and rise right up the ladder?

We won't even win the spoon!

We'll be on the edge, just outside the 8.

Surely that means, with the same improvement, we can get that elusive flag in 2012..?

Actually, I've seen some poster write somewhere that we'll lose a lot of supporters going into next year - I think the exact opposite.

Unless we hire a completely uninspiring coach, the euphoria and optimism that comes along with that will have us breaking the membership record again.

We might even crack 40K.

That's not to say we'll really get a flag next year.

But I think there will be a buzz at the club if we acquire a Neeld, Sanderson, McCartney or a Hinkley... let alone mention Malthouse.

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
