If i recall correctly most clubs delist 4 -5 players each year in order to draft new talent.

I have had a look at our list and i think this year will be the hardest year to decide who stays and who goes.

I think the following players should fall into the selection criteria to be traded or delisted:

Delistings

Newton - He has had his fair share of chances

Mcnamara - Clearly not good enough and been on the list long enough

Campbell - We have enough ruck options

Lawerence

Johnston

Wonaemirri - depending on what is happening in his personal life - if he wants to play then i would love to keep him, but i have the feeling he wont.

Trades/Delistings

Bate

Dunn

Maric

Morton

Warnock

Kepp on rookie List

Evans

Promote to senior list

Nicholson

I think everyone else deserves there spots.

Thoughts?

Morton must stay...he is still developing.

Keep Nicholson on the rookie list....Give him Newtons number.

Following should go.

Newton

Mcnamara

Campbell

Trade/Delist

Bate

Dunn

Maric

Warnock

Wonaemirri- if he doesn't return in resonable shape...delist.

We currently have such a young and talented list that is still in its developmental stage, so do we really need to delist just for the sake of delisting. We will need to keep as much experience as possible for at least one more season I would have thought.

Didn't we draft Lawrence last year? That would mean he's on a two year rookie contract so I don't see the point of delisting a rookie one year into his career unless it was a mutual agreement.

I think there might be a few clubs interested in Warnock and possibly Bate, I'd like to keep Warnock for depth TBH but I think he'll want to play regularly somewhere else.

And if the depth isn't required (like it mostly hasn't been this year even when Garland went down)? A third consecutive year playing mostly for Casey. You've touched on the fact that Matty wouldn't want that, but I don't think the club would want it either. You've then got a bloke filling up a valuable spot on the list, who isn't being played, who has little improvement left in him, who will never again be part of our regular side.

If you're on the north side of 25 and you're a regular for Casey then your career has gone badly in the wrong direction. You're not depth, you're just a guy who is no longer good enough. Warnock fits this description, as do Bate and Dunn.

I thought that Jamar only signed a 1 year extension? anyone know?

I also believe it will be hard to upgrade Nicholson and Evans unfortunately

Delist Maric and Wonna? harsh on Wonna

Upgrade the Rush to the Veterans list with Green

thats three before we potentially trade anyone

Just watched Footy Classified on IQ where the Dean Brogan retirement story popped up... And it got me thinking.

Before jumping on my back, and everyone beating their chests, I'm wondering what everyone thinks Port would be willing to part with for one of our ruckmen...

Their first pick, if the ladder remains unchanged, will be pick 6. Followed, I think, by a pick in the late twenties or early thirties depending on priority picks.

They'll be desperate for a ruckman that at least has shown they can handle a full-time job in the position. They have 3 backups in Matthew Lobbe, Jarrad Redden and Daniel Bass (who, who and who?)...

So given our ruck list is suddenly the flavour of the month, with Jamar and Martin holding their own, and Gawn looking like he has a future, albeit a long-distance one... who on our list would get what?

For the record, I doubt Port would be willing to part with many picks, simply because THAT'S how you rebuild a team, and lord knows they need a rebuild. I also don't by any means advocate moving on any of our players... But since EVERY player has their price, I think it'd be an interesting exercise... for no other reason than for us to do the football equivalent of cackling whilst sitting on an open chest full of gold...

Do we think someone like Martin could find a home there for their second pick? Or a player? What about Spencer, who has been injured but was previously rated as our backup ruckman? And the big one of course, Jamar, who is going into the prime of his ruck career, and given how he plays (not reliant on pace) looks like he'll have another 5+ years in the game... He has been linked with South Australian teams before... Could he net a pick 6? Maybe with a sweetener?

Who was it Recuitto said in an article that Port should through 800K or more at Jamar in the off season.... apparently he has a Melbourne GF and has just started a personal training studio so is settling down

Martin i would want a pick around 15, if that what Jacobs got last year then MArtin is alot better than him on current form, Martin is huge for us as that versatile guy who can ruck but isnt pigeonholed in that spot

And you are right Port need a ruckman but can they give up their top draft pick?? i doubt it... Spencer who i think is coming along ok before injury?? may fit

You'd have to have rocks in your head to want to trade Martin, he is the perfect 2nd ruckman.

Same with Gawn or Jamar, as one is our best 1st ruck now, and the other our 1st ruck of the future.

Spencer would be the go.

I'm just worried how much we'd get for him coming off a knee reco.

I think Port will go for Hamish McIntosh anyway, or Hawthorn might.

Goldstein is too good.

Jamar signed a 1 year deal that has since expired and the next deal he signed was long term.

Can't remember how many years.

interesting how we have so many players coming out of contract at the end of 2012...we should be starting to press well then?!

Ok.

We need three deletions at least with Evans and Nicholson pushing for spots.

Warnock, Maric, Bate, Dunn, and Wonaeamirri will be vulnerable for differing reasons.

Newton is a rookie. That is the first time I have posted that in months but I expect it to be repeated often as some on here refuse to understand that rookies are not included in the three necessary deletions.

ARGHHH!

How many times does it have to be said? Newton IS NOT a rookie.

He WAS, but then he was permanently elevated to the senior list to take the position of Cameron Bruce.

Also, Warnock's contract situation is unconfirmed, but I believe he is out of contract at the end of 2011.

I thought he was still a rookie and dont see how he isnt, we would have elevated him to the main list without all the rookie [censored] if we could no? hence waiting till start of the season? i honestly dont know

He is still listed on the club website as a rookie so maybe a tleast understand the confusion

Huh?

Cam Bruce left a Vets spot open, filled by no-one. His departure opened up an extra rookie spot. That's probably where you are confused.

If Newton is 'on the list' it is because of LTI promotion or a mid-year promotion, and both of those are short term.

Newton is a rookie.

I don't care if he is currently on the senior list due to the veterans rule, he is still considered a rookie come seasons end.

Let's hope I don't need to repeat this cause it really is pretty simple.

Bate and Dunn contracted to 2012 so some sort of deal would need to be struck.

I second your ideas on Newtown, he is a rookie for the purposes of the list.

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
