Let's be honest, the dees are cursed. Ever since Crompton put us up by 4 points it's been a tale of woe with occasional but unfulfilled bright moments.

Here's my theory - the curse stops after the final siren of 2011

The causes of the curse

- the greatest coach in football, and the embodiment of the MFC is sacked callously: bad bad karma

- no. 31 leaves the club behind in part dor the promise of better money and a new opportunity - (barrassi has thankfully found his inner Demon in recent years, it's great to have him back)

How we break the curse:

- keep the coach, sure we may be unsure about him but - THIS teams best is better than any other Melbourne team I think I have seen (20 years at the footy)...really believe their best is better than 2000 team or the team that was top of the ladder for a moment in 2004? (following st kilda game)

Most importantly

- no 31 stays with the club, sure he'll require a large salary, but I reckonche recognizes the potential opportunity ahead of him.

There is a curse, BUT IT STOPS IN 2012

I don't think we're cursed, But i wonder strongly if Checker Hughes broke the MCC/MFC comfortable & cosy traditions...

when the MCC got rid of Norm Smith,,, the 'Hughes' heritage was vandalised and vanquished. Barassi had gone and then Smith... the heritage died.

The Comfort Zone reigned Supreme in the Long Room Lounge. Bring out the Family size Pizza's, we're having a Bruise Free Party.... for the next 50 Years or so. Jolly good...

If number 31 stays with the club into next year and beyond...we are well on the way.

If he leaves to pursue his interests else where then we are still in the smog curse.

Judgement day comes soon.

The number 31 is not the issue here dude .

we need that statue of norm smith ASAP.

we need to change dean baileys name to norm smith and give him red hair implants (ill sacrifice my own hair for this)

the norm smith statue needs to be dressed in a dees Guernsey

I believe a seed of the Hughes era would have been sown from Barass's return, which Schwaby and others around the club now, were all infected by.

One of those seeds Will germinate amongst one of the prodgeny.

Some of it has got us here & Now. One of them will grow into a

I think Jimmy lifted the curse. Jimmy, who was ironically recruited by returning prodigal son Ron Barassi in the early 80's. I believe a further sign on Saturday that the curse has been lifted was our 89 point win v fremantle. a win of great promise, and by a great margin. the same margin that we beat collwd by in the 2nd semi of our great '64 finals series.

We're not cursed. We are Demographically challenged.. No key/identifiable demographic base. This has challenged all aspects of club success over the years, due to our low supporter base, resulting in poor finances and leverage within the AFL, eg, fixturing, media coverage, players not wishing to play for MFC (Judd for instance) etc.

When Jimmy unveils the statue of Norm in the Avenue of Honour outside the ground, then the curse will be broken.

It will be then that the MFC can say "welcome home Norm....all is forgiven..."

Totally agree...Norm will forever live at the 'G to oversee our uprising.

There is no such thing as a curse.

There is however culture.

We have a nice guy loosing one.

We have to create a mongrel one.

It probably starts with the supporters

we are far too accepting.

Every single one of us should write a letter / email of complaint.

Then mail back our scarfs tomorrow.

All is forgiven,,, I would have thought, "Where Sorry Norm" may have been closer!

    REDEEMING by Meggs

    It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.
