Sandringham v Casey Scorpions

KC from Casey

Recommended Posts

Petterd, Maric, Bate - 3 forward who always seem to dominate at Casey but just cant quite get the business done in AFL level.

Bate has had enough time, needs to go. Maric and Petterd have a future.

Bate kicks another from the boundary on 50 m mark after a strong mark.

Casey wins by 10 points.

I was only there for the second half but the best over that period of the MFC listed players were Bate, MacDonald, Warnock and Cook.

Blease had a shocker and Dunn and Maric barely sighted. Petterd flashed in and out and seemed to play mostly on the ball.

Campbell is a very big solid unit. Was ok in the ruck. Seemed to lack a yard of pace. Played most of the second half.

A good weekend all round... im not giving up on bate yet different to newton who is def useless. i can remember bate working his arse off as our only forward in our real [censored] times with repeated long hard leads and good hands. still worth persevering with in my opinion.

Hey All,

Went down to beach rd oval to watch game. Love the reports for others for a VFL game, so thought I would return the favour. Bear with me though as it is a) my first report and B) I had my two little guys with me today (2 and 4) so I probably missed a bit. Anyway, here is my summation of the Melbourne players.

Cook - wow. First time I have had a good look at him and I was super impressed. He seems like he has put on a tiny bit of size since earlier in the year but what I loved was his use of the ball. Exceptional. Not overly quick at all but has such great awareness he does not need to be. He set up number of goals with some exceptional foot skills on both sides of the body, even though it was blowing an absolute gale! Moves so smoothly. He will be a player and worth the wait. I would like to know his stats today as he never seems to waste a possession and he does not need as much of it as some of his teammates to impact a game as a result.

Blease - you know I did not notice him that much and was surprised his numbers were so high. Had a few errant kicks but he provides great run and carry from defence and really links well with his teammates. Tackling was solid and he certainly got involved with some strong work at stoppages.

Campbell - took me a while to work out who the big Scorps ruckman was actually. Competed well but obviously a bit underdone. Not an easy game for the big blokes with the wind I guess.

Pettard - did some really smart things and could have kicked more goals if it was not such a windy day. Worked really hard and worked up the ground. Locked it in the forward line as well.

McDonald - big strong young guy. I really like him - pretty skilled for a big bloke. Links well, defends well. May get a run sooner rather than later.

Bate - too good at this level. worked hard and provided a target (played deepwith fev most of the game). Good game with a few goals. Also a cult figure for my little guys who screamed out 'baber' non-stop for a few minutes before losing complete interest in the game. Maybe they thought he was ronald mcdonald - I dunno but he has won a few fans at our house and we have talked about him since getting home as well!

Warnock - gee he was good in the second half. A number of spoils when sandy looked like getting into scoring range. reads the play and rebounds well. Good game.

Dunn - hardly saw him. Doesn't work hard enough to get into the game. I think he will disappointed with that.

Maric - did a few clever centering kicks to give his teamates an opportunity when going forward. Also played behind a number of times when he was played deep forward and got outmarked - a quiet game.

On form on today only (and diregarding matchups and previous Casey form), I think Blease, McDonald, Cook and Warnock would be most likely to earn a call up.

Good to see Blease has been freed up into the midfield. Not sure if he's done enough to dislodge Evans yet but it's promising.

I wouldn't want to make too many changes to the team that played on Friday but of the guys playing Petterd really is AFL level. He's done a job on Shaw before and if Sylvia is injured I wouldn't mind sneaking him back in. With a half decent forward structure he really can play well as a defensive forward. Just interesting to see if he's redeemed himself yet because his work rate was poor the last few weeks at AFL level.

I tend to agree master. I'd like to see him win more contested footy, and to get to the right places intuitively, before he gets That game.

I assume 53 was Troy Davis and I thought he showed promise also. Good leg speed for a big bloke ( not that much difference in size with McDonald ). I have to say that whilst they are still green, they seem to know how to play the game, throw their bodies in and when they fill out could be a very handy couple of bigger bodies. No doubt Cook has the footy smarts but I thought his first half was only so so. Second half much better with more grunt/purpose and less 'pretty stuff'. Thought Blease vg with high work rate and Maric more than ok too. Warnock and Bate kill it at this level. Red Nut has some toe and thinks, works hard and you can see why they took him. I liked his energy. Xavier Clark a good player for Sandy.

No doubt all 29 touches went sideways:

As I said, was only there for the second half. In my time there I saw Blease make three really basic clangers, and in the third quarter right in front of us rally seemed to lack run and chase. Maybe he ran out of gas. Either way, he is not ready for call up just yet

Blease was really good in this game. He was scintillating in the first quarter against the wind with his hard work, run and willingness to take the game on. He was quieter in the second half, but that means that his second half was only 'good' rather than 'great'. I'm sure the club want to give him a chance to develop before they elevate him to the AFL, but if he keeps up this sort of form the club may not have a choice but to give him a game. The improvement he has made this year, due mainly to getting consistent games free from injury and improved fitness, has been wonderful.

But everyone is entitled to their opinions. However I doubt DeesPower is going to have too many supporters re: Blease.

It was the first time that I have seen Davis play and I think he looks every inch a future AFL player. He is strong, really clean, good defensive skills and uses the ball well with composure. But most of all he is really quick. Serious speed. I think we've got a good one there. He looks a bit like Tom McNamara, and it was amusing to hear team mates accidentally calling him 'Tommy' all day! I dare say that it won't be long until they start calling McNamara 'Troy' instead.

Thankyou deeluded you are correct. Anyhow he was played ok for Sandy. Tommy Mac runs around and looks a bit untidy at times, but he has a crack. Some nice heavy work today. I like him too. Good size and I hope he comes on. Still learning for sure, but sometimes with these bigger blokes they can take a bit longer.

I turned up to Sandy for the second half. Of the Melbourne players, Pettered seemed to get the most of the ball. Bate was good, but i have had enough of him playing mediocre games for the dees. Blease must have got a lot of his disposals in the first half. The second half he was only so so, as were many of the players. I only saw him kick the ball on a few occasions, and they mostly hit the target. However, with the wind, it was difficult to kick the ball well today.

Warnock would be a great player, but he seems to panic when he gets the ball, this is what stops him from making it at the elite level, he was very reliable today otherwise.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
