Bailey has lost the players respect. Viney, who may not even be able to coach, would at least not play anyone who doesn't show some form of hardness. There is no point having great skills if you are not hard at the pill. I reckon he would put the fear of god into our poor little petals at the moment. What is it gunna take to try something a bit left of centre? Or do we just go through the rest of the season playing like butterflies on a romp to the syrup pond.

Dean Bailey, grow a set and walk whilst you still have a few left who reckon you can coach............the majority now don't think you can.

Who at Melbourne has Great Skills? Maybe we have to accept that our list needs time or is not as good as we thought it was. Nearly every player coughs the ball up often. Very sad. But thats were we are at. Scully, Trenners, Grimes, early but even tappy, these guys have the skills we are missing ATM.

Tom Harley said on Fox that the Dees are the only side playing the defensive game plan and not the press. Others such as Paul Roos, G Healy and M Mclure to name a few have said the same thing. All these guy are not journos they are past footy players. There has to be something in it other wise no one would be commenting on it every blood week. Grass is greener maybe, maybe not but sh^t it would be nice to try instead of putting up with this (and no doubt having the same conversation next week and the week after)

Yeah problem is Dean Cox said they have been implementing the forward press for the last 3 years, its only just clicked. If we change now will the game take a different path by the time we get it right? Perhaps in that way you are right. If Baily was on the ball he should have drafted for and train for the forward press 2-3 years ago

Can guarantee one thing and that is the MFC will do nothing this week and we will be talking about the same thing again after the Ess game. Something needs to happen before I go totally insane.

Yeh I agree. At this stage I can't see anything to be gained by doing anything before the end of the season.

Bailey should get a reasonable chance, and hopefully a number of more games with a near-to-full list so injuries can't be used as an excuse, to show us if he's capable of exerting a positive impact over the course of a game. After tonight, the answer's still "I don't know". If at the end of the season the answer's still "I don't know", then we've got a problem.

What frustrates me is when we a kicking the ball from the half back line and looking for options, very few targets present. Quick football is good football. We have so few targets up in the forward line and so few players presenting to the ball. we really struggle to mark the ball on the half forward line because of this. As such, our delivery to deep inside 50 is rare, and most entries are poor as we are unable to penetrate from half forward (more from midfield).

How many times a game is our forward half empty? Then when the ball does come out, we have no options to kick up to, because we take forever to run into position. This is why we are poor in kick out, poor at defending kick outs and why there are always loose men for the opposition. We simply refuse to man up, or just don't try hard enough.

This isn't the coaches fault, it's the players laziness. But if the coach cannot get them to respond/perform, then unfortunately, one must be brought in that the players will respond to. I would love to get rid of all the lazy, soft, inept and poor disposal footballers at our club, but then we'd only be left with about 15 players or so.

Bailey has no game plan. Todd Viney revealed as much in an article on the mfc website. He is seen as a development coach, but our skills have gone backwards in a big way, and our 1%'s would be right down too. We are not developing in a positive direction. If this continues, the MFC risks losing players who want to play in a winning team, but more importantly, losing members who have simply had enough of this crap that is continually served up.

In his time as coach, Bailey has only beaten 2 Victorian teams, all other wins have come against interstate teams. Don't worry about 40,000 members next year, if Bailey is still coach, we'd be lucky to get 25,000.

I just don't see the sexiness of getting Todd in there.

Our players need to get the fire in their gut from other means than a bake, a caretaker, or a media spotlight.

And I don't want to get stuck with a Viney if it is driven by 5 wins toward the end of injury riddled season.

I can totally understand what you're getting at , but I still believe we've got the raw materials of a fantastic team for the future, but it needs a coach who can get the most out of them as a team, rather than as just a group of individuals. As of now, they're just a group of individuals, and as soon as they start to play as a team, we'll see a rapid improvement. If Bailey is capable of making them cohere and play as a team, all well & good. If he's not, we must get someone who is.

I think we do have a number of elite ball users its only they don't get to show it as they are always under pressure and there is no structure so they don't have the right options to go to putting their skills further under the pump. Guys like Watts look bad at times because they take too long and either get held with the ball or dispose under pressure but this is more about what is happening (or rather what isn't happening) down the field rather than any deficiency in their skills.

This is the bottom line. The excuse that the players aren't applying the game plan comes back to Bailey's shortcomings as a coach in terms of communication and leadership.

Saying we were only down by 16 points at halftime completely overlooks Carlton's horrible finishing and disposal in their forwardline. It could've and should've been a 6 goal differential at halftime. We are being labelled as pea hearts by the football community and on the back of games like that, who can disagree with them? The lack of leadership being shown on the field has gone beyond alarming, and to think that the players missing would've changed the outcome is far too convenient and at this stage I think inaccurate. Excuses of injuries don't wash when you put forward efforts such as tonight. All this talk of us having the best young list in the country, and that's the best Bailey and co can produce?

In a game where we are undermanned to this extent, to just lie down and allow the opposition free reign to come at us and scramble to keep the defecit as low as possible.. Who wants to watch that style of football? Who wants to be associated with it? I'm sick to death of the insipid efforts, week after week, with the occasional blip on the radar to give us some hope only to return to the usual, deplorable, Melbourne. We've put up with this [censored] for YEARS.

Bailey's record doesn't lie and I've officialy had enough. He has to go, before his "style" does more damage to the club psyche and reputation. Bailey OUT.

Yeah, we weren't pressing at all....

So when that (i.e. setting up from the defensive half) looks like the game plan but isn't supposed to be, it's because the players aren't following the proper game plan as they should. And when it's supposed to be the game plan, the players aren't following it either.
