Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

A simple media conferance to say "we arnt sure if we are taking him yet due to a few issues" could work wonders. Vague, inconclusive yet effective. Front page of newspaper worthy im the week leading up to the bidding session.

WTF?

Except the fact we have to nominate him to be able to select him as a father-son selection.

Thereby revealing our hand - that we do want to take him.

And if we're unsure, why would we be investing so many resources in him?

Why do we already have him tied to a contract?

It will not fool anyone.

edit: In fact, it would do the opposite.

It would show how keen we are to take him, because we are going to desperate measures trying to hide our desire so we can get him cheaper.

It'd cause derision of our football department and their inept tactics.

We have already informed the AFL we will. I don't know what paperwork is involved but I'm sure we have lodged it

We nominate, then put doubt that we not sure if his worth our first rounder, then we bid for him (Either with first or 2nd rounder, depending on how effective the doubt was and how much the teams are wililng to risk to gain 1 pick higher for a 2nd rounder)

You obviously think other clubs are very, very, very stupid. FFS, if it's _painfully_ obvious to you, me and every member of Demonland that we intend to take Viney, I expect the other clubs recruiting staff who live, eat and breathe this stuff _may_ have noticed.

We have informed the AFL that we will nominate him as a F/S, we havn't informed the AFL on what pick we are willing to use. Thats the whole purpose of the bidding session.

A: It ll stack up and make them question whether 1 pick higher in a 2nd round is worth the risk

B: We lose absolutely nothing by raising doubt

Footy is about 1%'ers, so why not do one off the field

I think there is no doubt the club would be thinking of ways to get him with 2nd round pick, just as a measure, it would be in their best interests to explore all opportunities even if they don't come to fruition. I would be disappointed if they weren't. However, there has been so much media hype etc. that the hands are tied and there isn't too much they can do about it.

Whatever the case, I'm looking forward to see JV play, hopefully he does well in Casey.

So GWS an GC have nothing to lose by nominating him???? Just that they make us take him with an earlier pick

Why would GWS take the risk of losing a #1 draft pick in a super draft?

How would you feel if MFC decided to bid on Daniher with there pick #3 (If Viney wasnt nominated) if Daniher was only worth a pick #8 just to bring our 2nd rounder forward by one place?

I would be thinking 'Why the f@#k did we just do that and not leave it to another team to do?', and if no team did do it i wouldnt care. pick 27 instead of pick 26, big sh#t.

We have nominated him and said we want him as F/s, yes!, we havnt showed any intention that we intend on paying overs for him.

No it's not. We don't bid at all, we only nominate him as F/S. It's the other clubs that bid (or not). We then just have to match those bids to get him. If there are no bids on a nominated F/S player, he's automatically taken by the nominating club with the last pick in the draft.

Once he's nominated F/S, we have no choices and no say in the matter. All we can do is match bids, not match bids or take him last pick if there are no bids.

Saying what pick we are willing to use and saying match bid/not match bid is the same thing....

and its not even matching the bid anyway, its using our next pick if u want to be that technical about it.

Olisik - you have put forward the only way we will not take him with our first pick in the draft - a deal with GWS.

There is no press conference that we could construct that would instill doubt that we will take him.

It is just not going to happen - unless we work out deals with all clubs below us, we will be taking Jack with our first pick.

Great news another small step in his development - wish all draftees got the same opportunity - but I suppose you cant change history.

You've gotta love the optimism on this board, already predicting a bottom three finish.

There are still 17 games to play.......

Thats true and who knows we could just win the next 10 games. Dont like the chances but would be great and i think Neeld will turn a corner quicker then some think. Mark neeld is going to be a legend of the red and blue one day. Lets get behind Mark and the club because after all we all share one thing in common we love the MFC. I sometime's say silly things after games but im sure we will make it under Mark neelds watch. I cant wait to see viney jnr dont worry what pick we use on him it's that talk of tanking and not winning that got us a dud by the name of scully lets get a winning culture and never quit attitude the rest will fall into place. The first 4 weeks have been hard but after i saw the saints game i now see we are building a team that will win more and never be called soft again. That is what we all want a team thats strong and never ever quits. GO YOU MIGHTY DEMONS

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
