Roos will coach the Demons

Having watched Paul Roos "On The Couch" for the last 6 weeks, I'm now firmly convinced that Paul Roos either is already lined up to coach the Demons next year or really wants to. He seems to take a great interest in the team, the Admin and the traditions of the club, is very careful not to criticize the Administration even when it is called for, and seems to have an indepth knowledge of the players, even more so than would be called for from the skilled analyst that he is. It is in stark contrast to Mike Sheahan who appears to becoming more and more critical of the Dees performance, and is clearly "egging on" him to join the criticism. So far Roos is not biting.

By the way, I think he would be an extremely good "fit" for the Club and take it to the next level as far as performance is concerned. I'm not sure our current coaching staff have the skills to do that.

I think we need to give this season a little more time instead of making silly assumptions after 4 games of decent football. We're well in terms of progression. Take a look at the stats. If we don't play finals, then yeah I think he would be a great fit.

Hmm to think a club would line up another coach so far ahead is prob a bit far fetched.

I'd be quite happy if it did happen. Our lack of intensity would certainly change under Roos.

I can't see it happening though. He was always adamant he wasn't a career coach and i think he prob stayed on longer than he first planned at the swans.

If we played the way the Swans did I would go to the footy and just watch Jurrah, the rest of the play would be stoppage dominated rubbish.

The guy mentored Ross Lyon - who has given us some of the worst football we have ever seen.

I just don't see it, sorry.

We would well drilled, our structures would be great, but I don't think he has the answer to the question of the modern game.

I actually agree with you on this one rpfc (believe it or not!). Roos is yesterday's man.

But I do agree that he appears to be angling for a coaching job and have noticed his interest in Melbourne.

Maybe you're right. But Roos went within a kick of 2 grand finals winning one and Lyon the same. Have things really been revolutionized by Mick Malthouse who has been coaching for what 20+ years?

Contested ball, defence and a well drilled structure are still the backbone of Collingwood's success regardless of forward press and other stuff.

Personally I'd love to see Bailey get it together and get the ultimate success, but having Roos would be interesting. When was the last time a premiership coach came to Melbourne?

I've heard the rumour he's coaching us next year, but I'm not sold on it yet. It could just be he takes a special interest in our group - we did give the worst loss of his career last year and that alone might have been enough for him to think that we've got a playing group capable of more than we are giving at the moment.

Ross Lyon did his apprenticeship up there, and he's way more negative than Roos ever was. Roos developed the Swans to play the awkwardly short SCG.. He was largely man on man or with an extra man back.

Not with the massive floods and heavy zones we've seen in recent years from the Saints and the Pies.

Roos would most likely be a contested ball Coach with an attacking flair designed for the bigger MCG.

There was a discussion on SEN on Friday re Garry Lyon being interested in coaching the dees. The discussion centred around the last time this topic came up it was generally agreed that Garry left the door slightly ajar and now there is enough money in coaching for him to be lured away from Channel 9 (although it all might change if they get the TV rights)Just imagine scenes aka Saint James at Essendon. I would prefer that this topic wasn't discussed with any fervour as at this stage I don't think we need anything to send of us the rails. I wonder if one Tom Scully would be more tempted to stay if Garry was the coach.

A Coach has to have it in the blood,,, like an artist would paint for nothing, for the love. Thats the passion needed for the Job. Not about money.

They quizzed Garry on triple m the other day and he just replyed with an affirmative NO.

It's a nice dream. When Garry is in serious footy mode he really seems switched on, and seems like he wouldn't be afraid to give a good spray or a rev up which seems to be something a lot of Demons supporters wish Bailey would do more. It'll never happen though.

It's interesting how there are lots of talk in the media about possible coaches for Melbourne like Roos, Malthouse, Lyon etc when Bailey hasn't even been removed yet - shows that not only demons supporters are questioning how good of a coach he will be ...

Paul Roos was something of a phenomena at Sydney.A recently retired player with immediate respect from both fan and playing group.

He was calm and with the calm came success,this was about the time Melbourne was looking for a new coach.

As we all know success breeds imitation and we decided to go for a calm coach.We need a hard nut who has been through an era of playing success,Hardwick was a miss and Wellman a significant loss .Our defense was our clear developmental winner last year though with the departure of Wellman it has regressed.

Now Wellman is a continued success at Essendon and a confirmed success at Melbourne in the past i believe he would be the ideal candidate,outside Malthouse.to gain the best from our list.

Bailey lacks the respect of the players,they do not play for him.his selections confound me.The lack of continuity for guys such as Gysberts,Petterd etc astounds me.The continued support of nathan Jones astounds me equally,The guy does not have it,yes he can occasionally bang one from outside fifty and look great though the VFL is littered with such.his decisions on the field mimic Baileys of it.

I am not writing off Bailey either.. I'd love to see the Demons under Bailey achieve ultimate success. I was reporting what I had observed, particularly as i have begun to develop doubt about Bailey's game plan or lack of it, and the quality of his back up coaching staff. If the Board are starting to have the same doubts, then no doubt they would be putting out feelers. I too would prefer Roos over Malthouse.

I also agree Bailey deserves to have this year at least in peace to get on to prove his theories and start to develop some success. Let's hope there is some considerable improvement over the next three or four weeks before we move into the games against the Dons, Blues, Saints and Pies which will define our season by the middle of July.

I'm pretty sure Terry Wallace invented the flood back in 2000 when he conjured up a Bulldog victory against the all-conquering Essendon

I doubt Roos is a done deal but he may wish to ensure he has the best chance of coaching the Dee's in case the option arose. Roos coached a style of football suited to a postage stamp side ground with a team of mature bodied but not necessarily highly skilled players. I doubt the same game style would be applied on the MCG with our list.

I agree, but we wouldn't be hiring him for the Swans' 2005 gameplan. We would hire him for his experience, his smarts, and his leadership abilities. I'm sure he would be more than capable of working out a winning "G" strategy.

Wellman was a big loss and our backline is showing a lack of direction.

Roos was successful because he is smart and in touch with the players (hird is the same. Boht have built solid coaching units around them.

I really like Bailey but I dont think he has demonstrated a winning game plan yet and the easter break should be a time to rethink that issue.

The decision to leave Watts off the ground against the GC Youngs baffled me. It was a great chance for him to play in a game and have some impact improving his confidence and building some faith in his team mates.

No doubt the Board is considering the options as is their duty.

Our number one priority at the moment is to get some cohesiveness back into the backline. We need to be frank that our current coaching in that area is not translating onto the field and get the best we can find to help out in that area.

in addition Gary Lyon should be asked to take a couple of players under his wing for one on one sessions each week, he could add a lot to the development of Morton, Watts and Grimes.

If he is not available then lets get an experienced ex player with some mojo in the role.
