Scully Contract

GWS would be a good move for him. I know he comes back to Wangaratta often. It would probably be easier for him to commute from Sydney.

Ha it's only about 10 mins to Wang from Western Sydney. tee hee....

I had a choice last year between a graduate job in Canberra and a graduate job in Melbourne. The Canberra job paid more and was more relevant to my field of study and career interests, but that wasn't enough to lure me away from my girlfriend and life here in Melbourne. Besides, now that I'm finally not a student I can actually afford to go to footy games more often and my office here has a great view of the 'G!

I took a grad role in canberra 2 years ago away from friends family and the G/F at the time... in terms of career progression in my chosen field it was a great move but cant wait to get back to Melb. The difference between a graduate position and an AFL contract though is you are not locked into a contractual term and that it's easier to drink away the pain.

If the pies can resign all it's stars and melb can't sign tom scully this could unsettle the club. Bad for sponsorship and attracting future players.

Melb admin will reaslise this. So i'm not worried about scully leaving but rather other players leaving because we spent a lot to keep scully.

i really don't think the admin will go to the extremes to sign Scully if it will jeopdise resigning the other young "stars". I believe they are now smarter than that

How much more was the job in Canberra?

10% 20% what if it was 100% would you now be in Canberra?

it has been reported that jim stynes has already leant hard on scully in a 1:1 to re-sign. it will be a marketing disaster for melb if scully leaves. It's all about the future and demon kids.

next year trengove will be out of contract. that will mean another million posts...so we may as well do "find and replace on scully's name and insert trengove"

So I think your wrong...Melb admin will move heaven and earth to keep scully...I'm sure melb will trade older players etc...to get the job done.

So do you still think Melb Admin will let him go?

Lamb souvlaki - winner any day of the week!

Sculls if you are reading this stop........ Apparantly its pretty easy to get a souvlaki/kebab/yiros (whatever you want to call it!) in GWS!!

Can we start a petition now "SAY NO TO SOUVLAKI'S" B)

Melbourne will not get in to a bidding war with GWS over this, as they simply couldn't match any offer the they made.

I'm also quite sure that the way our contracts have been written in recent times would allow for a variety of payment terms to ensure we can offer a player, like Scully, a handsome deal, without compromising on other players.

FWIW - I think Scully will stay, especially as he watches the GC struggle this year, knowing that he would be a lot closer to playing finals footy for us, as opposed to GWS. It would take an unrealistic offer from GWS to convince him to go (ie. In the Ablett/GC category), but I think Sheedy is smarter than that and wont throw top dollars at a 3rd year player. If they (GWS) have learnt anything from the GC game so far, it would be to spread the money out and get a dozen reasonable players rather than forking out for 1 drawcard and a handful of average-at-best players.

im not saying they are just going to let him go, but if he has decided to take the money i don't think admin are going to go all the way to matching, with future contract discussions in the back of their mind. He is a must to keep but only to a certain point

point taken...

Given the poor performance of Gold Coast Suns- I think the rationale from the Scully Camp. Will be, if melb comes close to GWS...then scully will stay....

I think the guy GWS should be after is josh kennedy...24ish next year....has done 2 years at the hawks..started a three year deal with the swans last year...comes out of contract end of next year.

Why would TS say he is going to sign in a month?

If he has made his decision, then surely he would sign right away. Just does not make sense.

The issue is that GWS can approach and contract Tom Scully without involving MFC. This is what they might have done already. If it is a case of battling $ vs $ then there is no realistic way we could compete.

I actually thought Stynes comments about the GWS draft rules forcing players to lie had crpytic undertones.

Has Scully actually committed to that statement. I thought that was another media inspired rumour. Do you have a source for the information?

No. I was only questioning the original post.

I am sure that Pickers on Foxsports had no bad intentions in revealing the information. But the statement in itself does not add up to me. Therfore I am leaning on thinking it being BS.

Maybe something to do with the TV rights/player payment options that most players/managers have been waiting to see the result of...

May be close to closing deals which will give a clear indication of what capacities are available....

For what its worth, I dont think GWS is even interested in Scully. They wont say so as its all a smokescreen to confuse other teams.

The reason I dont think their after Scully as he is the wrong TYPE of player. GWS is only the suns on a 12 month time delay, the rules, draft concessions and salary cap are all roughly the same. After a year in the VFL what TYPE did they draft, mature bodies to give the bucket load of Scully body types time to mature.

If I was the MFC I would be trying all out to sign Sylvia, the body and playing type the suns went after.

NOTE: I AM NOT SAYING SCULLY ISNT ANY GOOD, what I am saying is I THINK he dosnt fit the body type I believe they will go for.

Surprise Surprise. No Scully hasn't.

Liam Pickering generated the rumour on League teams which was laughed off by panel members. He claimed the source was an unnamed friend's friend. So until we learn of something of more substance..../

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play

    EASYBEATS by Meggs

A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los
