It is not good enough to just win against the Lions. We have got to win big. 20 poiints will leave me leaving the ground pretty flat, forty points will any one notice? 60 would begin to repair some of last weeks damage.

Were do we stand in relation to the other clubs vying for the spoon. Are we superior? Can we stand tall amongst the middle of the ladder? Maybe snatch a win or two against the top teams. Every week counts. A new statement is sounded out after each game, and we have a lot to catch up on last weeks debacle. The rebuild starts this week... a big win is a must

As if it's anything inherent to Melbourne; to support my assertion I'll point to all those who argue that Melbourne supporters accept mediocrity.

I am thinking along similar lines. It will depend alot on how the Lions play, but I am expecting us to smash them this week. They will need to, too win back some respect.

If we win but both teams look poor in an ordinary game, then I would feel dissapointed in the result. I think we definately need to step up against a side that most feel are rated below us.

I too would like to see us win well, but I also want a tough performance. I just watched our toughness being questioned on AFL 360 on Fox, and it has been the same cultural perception we have had for a long time at our club, and I am sick of it, because I know they are right. I am sorry to inform you that other teams already think like that about us. They think we are soft and at any point in the match can be beaten. You only have to listen to Mark McLure or Dermie or Jason D or any of the commentators. They all say it.

I couldn't agree more, I want us to absolutely ruthless this weekend.

Regardless what happens on the scoreboard re winning margin (I hope) I want to see all 22 players make a contest each and every time for four whole quarters. I would like to see committed players running in numbers following team rules. Second and third efforts to back up an aggressive first effort.

A performance like our last meeting at the MCG early last year. They would want to back that up against GC. It will do the very least that is expected by the football media and many supporters here.

We want start to win respect until we beat a Geelong, C'wood or Carlton. On last Saturday's effort its a big big gap. Lets start the first steps of redemption on Sunday. We must win but also the way we win will be important.

Oh and no injuries to MFC players please.

I think it's dangerous for our players to go into this game thinking the Lions are a VFL side and that there a rabble. They've made some list mistakes reecently, and have some injuries this year, but they have the structure odf a very good side that has been premiers.

To show a complete lack of respect is just careless.

We need to stick to our disciplines and structures, and keep working on teaming amd linking up our forward thrusts. Keep doing that and try to build some momentum.

The thing we must do first and foremost, is Win.

Get back into a winning formulae, and try to string, winning clearances, and good attacking play, together..and maintaining our defensive structures.

I hope Grimes does get a crack in the Mids.

we also schooled them by 55 at the MCG last year and they had Fev and Brown in that night

I remeber last week many of us clapped them off at 1/2 time after the display in that 2nd quarter.

How quickly we forget. This team is now being carried by Brad Green, close to 30, and lot of highly talented 19-22 year olds who are the future. Give them a break and any belting of Brisbane will be good but just a step on the journey this year.

If we go 6 points after Round 3 that'll be great no matter how it works.

Hasn't anyone considered the draw with Swans was maybe a better effort than first thought after they came back and beat the glamour team bombers?

I do agree a bit, however 40 pts would suffice for me easily. I think they will win back more respect by how they go about it, not how much they win by. As a side note I reckon the FD has gone about it the right way in naming a slightly different team structure, albeit on paper. A massive issue on sunday was players presenting leads for kickins, and I reckon putting Grimes to the mids with Bail and Sylvs will go a long way to rectifying that, and having Aussie, Morton and Gys in gives us a couple extra dimensions we had been short of. I am quite excited about it and hope that they actually run it like that for a bit.

You learn to win by winning. We have to start by getting a win, and part of me doesn't care if it is by 10 goals or an ugly 15 points. What I want to see is a red hot go, some genuine ticker, onfield leadership and some sign that our structures can work, especially in defence.

Yep, I would love to see a 10 goal win where our very best is on display. But 2 of our best midfielders are out injured - Scully and McKenzie, Frawley is slowly on the return, and Cale Morton is coming in for game 1. It is highly likely we will thump the Lions but a win is a win is a win.

As for the Lions, do not underestimate them. Voss has made some really bad list errors, but his list is now where ours was in 2009 and I reckon he is the kind of coach players will play for. If we expect a VFL side to turn up it is likely we will play VFL standard footy and get beaten.
