At what stage this year were any of the games certainties?

Why SHOULDN'T West Coast win at home against ANYONE they play? Why SHOULDN'T any team beat the team they are playing?

Next year there will still be some iffy games, the year after is when we SHOULD start winning certain games.

might consider taking Vicodin there Billy...seems you take umbrage at shadows.

Many , especially on the boards considered many of the games very winnable. Given WCE start you certainly would expect them to be ultra competitive. We're supposed to be stepping up a bit this year.. many would have thought , given where wce finished last year, then we should be putting them away...should be.. maybe not now.

I inparticular wouldnt have cemented all five at any time...all im saying is now im not convinced of any bar GC, do you now get it.. ??

Feel we can win the next five, almost have to win them. Then need to win 3 out of the next 5 to prove we are going forward. Long way off but looking forward to the Queens b/day game

im not!!

Win our next 2, which we should and then go into the bye. Its amazing what winning and momentum can do.

After which we should be full of confidence and fresh to make the trip to Perth and win, then our belief will grow with a game at the G against the Crows, Then bring on North Melb.

So yes they better believe they can win the next 5.

I voted 3 - The two games @ the 'G plus GC. I would be satisfied with that. 4 would be ideal, 5 just seems unrealistic on form to date (Thats not to say the boys shouldn't be aiming for 5, but can't seem them delivering on the kinds of consistency we are hoping for just yet)

More importantly can we win the Premiership in 2014,15 and 16. I hope we can because I'll be well out of patience by then.

So will most of us- but by gee they are very hard to Win.

Surely we are good enough to win 4 of those 5. If we win less than 3 it is going to be another long season. None of the aforementioned sides are top 8 teams.

For MFC to make the 8 this year the next 5 games are crucial drop 1 or 2 and its going to be an uphill battle to make the 8. (good thing MFC play GC twice)

These games will definitely make or break our season (as far as finals are concerned).

Brisbane and GC are surely wins.

Westcoast will be an interesting one. We'll be fresh from the bye and I really think its a game that on paper we should win. Our midfield should be able to out body theirs allowing our FWD's to tear them to pieces...time will tell.

Crows at home is a wait and see. I have a sneaking suspicion that the Crows are going to play finals this year.

North at Etihad: HUGE HUGE HUGE game. A team we should beat. Must beat. They have beaten us consistently for years now and enough is enough. If we have our best 22 on the park that day I will be dismayed if we lose.

I don't think "MFC" "the 8" and "crucial" need appear in the same sentence currently...

on topic, I would only lock in 2. >=3 would be pleasing for me.

thats fair enough, but i would have thought a team that fell short of finals by 2.5 games in 2010 would have that in their minds this year... Then again its all about winning quarters this year!!!! they can start winning games next year.

I don't have an issue with questioning DB.

I just think its pretty obvious that all decisions that have led us here were not based on scraping into the 8 in 2011...

I want us win games as much as the next "syndrome suffering" mfc supporter (can't recall the acronym we use for that around here)

To win in the next five in a row? What odds would the bookies put on that? I'd go 50 to 1 on current form. The seasons still early and some of these teams are looking hungrier than us at the moment. History has shown we always trip up when we crystal ball easy opposition on the road ahead.

I was not going to make comment here but just have to-

Whilst we are playing we always have a chance of winning. I feel we can Win all five. WC & the Kangas the hardest games along with Adelaide.

I see us winning two of those on current form... Maybe sneak one or both of the WC and Kangas games after. Adelaide, no chance.

Based on previous form I would think the hardest one is North.

They are like Hawthorn i.e. have belted us for years and I see nothing to suggest that will change in 2011.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
