Changes for next week.

Those calling for Watts to be dropped are kidding themselves.

There is only one thing we can do with Watts, and that is get games into him until we find out whether he will deliver.

I smell the whiff of a Newton recall, but that might be because I am in Werribee. I really hope he is not recalled.

In: Gysberts, Wonna, Macdonald (so Grimes can play half a game on the ball)

Out: Jetta, Maric, Jones

After seeing the replay and reading the Casey player reviews, the changes to me seem like a no-brainer:

In: Wonaeamirri, Gysberts

Out: Maric, Jetta

No problem with your additions

but why are you so hard on Maric?

The guy had an ordinary game first up after a good pre season.

He then comes on as the sub 5 minutes before three quarter time when the game is all over.

He did not cause the third quarter rout.

Then out he goes!

Why not some of the same attitude we give to Watts.

I actually thought he was far from our worst in the last quarter

Whats more he keeps his eyes open when going for marks.

Did you actually watch the game or are you just going on the stats? One thing that really stood out for me when I watched it was how bad the delivery to Watts is. The number of times I saw the ball being passed behind him, at his feet or to his opponent's advantage was staggering. Yes, he made a couple of errors. He dropped an uncontested mark that he should have eaten. There was a bad handball intercept, but I put that down to Jones running to the wrong spot to receive. Overall, he was everywhere, chased really hard and when the ball was passed to him properly he generally did pretty good things with it.

100% correct.

He had a bloody good work rate but like most of our forwards, was let down by shocking delivery.

In the two practice games and first two rounds i have seen this year, Watts is developing well. He is flying up and into packs now. He is leading to the right spots. And he is gaining the confidence to take contested grabs- a la Sunday.

Johnathon Brown would have barely touched it on Sunday our delivery into the forward line was so poor.

And if you want any more proof just look at the inside 50 count every week. Our forwards are so starved of ball and opportunity it is astonishing. Stick them in the opposition forward 50 and they would all be ripping down half a dozen marks and kicking 3 or 4 goals.

That is the biggest indictment on the team (along with a couple of other things).

I'd like the match committee to play jurrah on the /wing where he would have to 'Run' harder and chase and be more disciplined and accountable. just for a month or so. To stop him from wanting to fly every 3 seconds and use his speed and great ball handling ability more. Mayb even Watts on the other side. Centreline speed and height aplenty. We could have Green off the flank, close to the mids and Petterd starting deep, with Martin or Newton and Wonnaemirri/Davey

That would enable us to give Benny a rest @ Casey, with the Jett.

I think Jurrah on a wing would be good. He is being wasted ATM with only 35 inside 50s on Sunday.

I think the natives would tear down the MCC if that occurred

Not this Native but don't worry the MCG is safe

It will not happen.

There is too much already invested in Watts.

And it is ordained that he will play the next ten no matter what.

No pun intended

Thats what we need today dee-luded a little light relief in the last line.

Keep it up mate we are just a little tense at the present.

Firstly, I think Watts is a much better player than Maric. The only people that would want Watts out of the side are those who don't understand that there's ground in between "complete dud" and "megastar" - and Watts is on the positive side of that. (Anyone who thinks I'm saying Watts is a "megastar", please read again.) Watts adds to the side - for two games Maric has added nothing, regardless of how stiff he might've been with the sub rule.

Secondly, I think Wonaeamirri is also a much better player than Maric and it's a like for like swap. Maric was in the side on the back of an excellent preseason when Aussie had a limited one, so he deserved first shot at the role. He's proven inadequate, the superior player now has match fitness and form together, so the swap gets made. Easy.

AJ with the way we constantly flooded as soon as the ball went into the hawks half

He played half of last week on the wing.

Nasher most of what you say is correct however I would ask one question

For all his apparent talent How many good games has Wona played for Melbourne in three years.

I can remember 3 - 4. The rest have been a quarter here and there.

Not saying he should not be added this week but I reckon he owes big time for the patience the FD has shown in him.

I know it was a thrashing, but watch the Sydney game from last year and any doubt you have will disappear. Wona is a gun

I am almost certain i sat near you on Sunday Old Dee. I had this old bloke behind all day doing nothing but whinging and making ridiculous criticisms even when things were going well in the second. Grimes should be at Casey. Jurrah is a joke. Sylvia a disgrace. Watts worthless.

It got to the point where he slammed Watts again because he lead at the ball, his teammate missed him AGAIN, he has to stop and prop under the bouncing ball, three Hawthorn players jump on him and low and behold clear it away.

Funnilly enough though, when i turned around and explained to him the facts of the situation, told him that he either has little or no understanding of the game and is being ridiculous there was not another peep for the rest of the game. And then he left early.

I am certain that this is you Old Dee. When all goes well you are happy to bask in it but when it doesn't you throw around wild and bulltish criticisms with no concept of the reality of the situation and don't have the gall to sit out a game and wear the pain as well as you would in the glory.

Until Watts carries 21 blokes across the boundary, takes 27 contested grabs, kicks 21 goals and brings world peace in one game you will never be satisfied. Get over yourself.

...............and in your reference to Wonna and Maric, so Wonna owes the FD big time for the patience it has shown but Maric doesn't and should be cut some slack.

My point exactly.

DG I was there and it was one of the 3-4 I am talking about.

But he has a lot of ordinary ones or is injured in between.

My complaint is he does not produce them very often

I hope gets in this week and has a blinder

It was not me mate I have never ever said jurrah is a joke, Grimes should be at Casey and Sylvia is a disgrace!

And no one told me off on Sunday so it was not me.

However I will not live long enough to see Watts carry 21 blokes across the line, probably won't see him carry 1 across.

But thanks for the character assassination anyway.

I agree with Old Dee to a extent about Wona being hyped up, but regardless of opinions, you dont get on your high horse and go off on a tangent, ranting at someone like over a comment posted on the internet!

Didn't do enough. Someone must make way for Juice.

Dunn & Petterd both need to lift IMO, but i'd be happy enough to see Newton come in at Maric's expense. Gysberts for Jetta.

Petterd can go back to sub...

Whoa mate. your goin' a bit hard.

Your obviously from a different generation, and your post is bordering on abuse. Certainly disrespect to your elder, to start with.

You acuse him of being the fella you abused in the crowd for yelling something you couldn't bear, so you turned to dress him down. He has the right, even if it's unbearable, to say what he thinks @ the players sent to entertain the crowd. And is probably one of the members jimmy and the club is trying to get to stay and keep rejoining.

And the last I heard, we live in a democratic society.

I've done similar myself, as you, got upset with someone, or people, in the crowd. I took on the collingwood supporters on, in the second tier, a couple of years back.. But to be abusive from the keyboard, to anyone, let alone to an elder statesman of our great club, is lowering the 'Old Values' of our halcyon days.

Poor form, mate.

Yep. Democratic society it is. And in that society, if you make stupid uninformed comments expect to cop it.

Age has no bearing on things and does not give any more credence to you or others and what is said or posted. I respect a good point made, regardless of the age of the person who made it...

Having seen a good 25 years i reckon i've seen a bit too.

Perhaps it is these "old values" or "elitism" that has been the problem with MFC for the last 46 odd years.

Now lets all take a deep breath.

Sounds like I get up your nose with everything I say.

It is not intentional

Well I am truely sorry If my opinion so affends you.

Carn the Dees.

Not everything Old Dee. I like the last line! :)

You don't need to apologise to me or anyone else for your opinions.

As you say......moving on.

Back onto the original topic................

I don't see wholesale changes being made.

I see Maric and Jetta as the likely two to go.

Replacing them will be Gysberts and Wonna.

I don't think they will bring Morton straight back in to the seniors. I know a finger injury doesn't preclude keeping up a fitness base but it doesn't allow for match practice and as we saw with Chippa, players clearly need a week or two to blow out the cobwebs.

The only other possible change would be Garland out injured for McDonald or Warnock.

Jones won't be dropped because that will just make our midfield even lighter on for strength. Something we can ill afford. And he is playing a run with role at the moment where he will have good weeks and bad.

I see Bail taking on Black

Jones taking on Power.

Gysberts comes into the side at the expense of Jetta for mine.

If Garland is out then Warnock comes in.

Maric gets one more week. Ozzy is breathing down his neck!

The rest stays as is. Until Scull and McKenzie are ready. Morton to come back through the VFL.

There'll be wholesale changes, it's clear that the club wasn't happy with the effort shown on Sunday.

First of all, Jack Watts needs something extra, we paint a rosy photo of the kid because he 'took that one good mark' or something along the lines when really he isn't performing well enough to retain his spot in the 22. As much as i hate to say it, Juice Newton may get a gig this week - we lack the kind of real full forward. To put it simply Jurrah and Watts have the talent, but they are just not developed well enough yet.

Gysberts in...but for who? Maric? Jetta? I believe Maric has shown more than enough this year to retain his spot, just needs some bloody confidence. He can't exactly make his mark coming on as sub when we were getting completely and utterly belted.

From what we saw of Garland's injury on the weekend you'd have to suggest he'll miss, in which case we'll likely see one of Macdonald/Warnock/Strauss depending on match ups.

I can't help but think that Joel Mac will become dead weight very soonish with hopefully Tappy, Strauss and Blease coming along.

IN: Warnock/Strauss, Gysberts, Newton

OUT: Garland, Jetta, Watts

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
