Pretty sure Campbell was also recruited because he would assist in the development of our young players.

It may have slipped through to the keeper for some, but in his time out of AFL he started up a program developing kids to be more AFL-ready before they get drafted.

I don't think we really intended for him to play (AFL) at all -- the idea was for him to act as an on-field development coach at training & in the VFL.

Even when he can't get out there because of injury, he'd act as a valuable mentor.

Then why not hire him as an assistant coach and use the rookie spot taking a punt on another player that may play a game?

Has anyone heard any more about this. I heard it also on 7 but it seems odd that the news is nowhere else to be found. Ch 7 surely dont just pull things out of their backside did they?

Not surprised about Scully. I had stress fractures in my foot a couple of years ago, initially I was told 7 weeks and it ended up taking 7 months to heal. A mate of mine had a similar fracture, he missed around 6 months. Obviously different people heal at different rates, but from experience I can tell you these things are bastards to get over.

Because he's ALSO better ruck insurance than PJ...

It's not that complicated.

So who actually reported the blow-out to 10 weeks for Scully's recovery? I have checked on the AFL site, Real Footy site, MFC site and all injury lists I could find, and I'm coming up with nothing. Sure they didn't mean Staker instead of Scully? - after all, the LARS treatment has apparently reduced his recovery period from 12 months to 3 months which is a tad over 10 weeks

I hope Campbell gets off this list and is available as Insurance for us.

He is a real asset to the club whether he plays or not.

My dilemma is that I'd like to see him healthy and pulling on the jumper and playing but that would mean one of two things I dont want to see; an injured Jamar or our favourite martin not continuing his form.

Scully was always going to be longer than 4 weeks and we should not rush him back.

Has the McKenzie date slipped out?

Slowly managing his OP. Will be a tough first half of the year for him.

I have a gut feel we will not see him till late in the season if at all.

Be carefully now it is not called OP anymore.

Your quote was "I don't think we really intended for him to play (AFL) at all -- the idea was for him to act as an on-field development coach at training & in the VFL."

If that's the case, and he has long term injuries, why didn't they make him a coach and take a punt on somene else. Is that too complicated?

Well, you never INTEND to have injuries to your number 1 ruckman.

He is insurance.

I didn't say we wouldn't want him to play if required.

And the alternative at the time was PJ who also isn't available because of injury.

Most of this seems over your head though Thomo...

I still don't see why you think a long term injured player is insurance for anything. Nothing to do with PJ, we did not have to choose one or the other. If he has a history of injuries, and seems that he was injured when drafted, and you think that it was never intended that he would play for Melbourne, why draft him?

Try and rely without your usual keyboard hero stuff you type when you are struggling.

I'm not sure we knew he was long-term injured when we drafted him.

I've heard we were deceived about his fitness pre-draft, but I'm not certain if that is the case.

Are we certain the achilles injury isn't something that has occurred since we drafted him?

The reason he stopped playing originally (to my understanding) is a degenerative knee condition, not because of his achilles.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
