Over the last two years I have noticed one club that has a big green monster that sit in a very large chip on their shoulder. They hate that our young list is getting all the attention and they believe that their list is younger and better than ours. There supporters are constantly calling talk back radio complaining about the focus on our club and the facts are no one really cares about them.

Yes, I'm talking about North Melbourne, even last Saturday we played the night before the callers were North supporters letting their big green monster out on the radio. I agree with them that their list looks good and will be competing with us over the upcoming years, but don't constantly attack the MFC over they hype we have created. Our administration has created this and the media has jumped on board, you bitter and twisted North supporters need to focus on what you can control, if your administration can not create the hype around your club you have the wrong people leading your club. Funny they have an AGM tomorrow night, the President can be heard on the radio most days yet no one cares if they are any good.

Yes we have the hype and even if North finishes higher then us on the ladder people will be drawn to the MFC.

yeah, well North supporters can be rest assured that their club will be in the spotlight tomorrow night for all the right/wrong reasons. they should be more concerned for their own backyard and make sure GWS doesn't take away from them one of their promising youngsters. like a Ziebell or Cunnington or Thompson.

You were listening to SEN last Saturday weren't you? I heard it too. "Terry" a North supporter infuriated me, I talked about his rant in the Scully to GWS thread.

It is a case of jealousy. Plain and simple. They crave the attention we received and they never get it. My theory is that they are a boring club- boring colours, boring strip, boring mascot, boring name. White and blue stripes invoke no stimuli, a kangaroo is a dull marsupial. Even their name; "North Melbourne" suggests they are a sub district club who lack the presence to claim their own territory. They have low membership numbers and the only media attention they get is via scandals/shenanigans.

In a state with 9 Victorian teams some teams are going to get more attention than others. I would argue that out of all of them, North receive the least amount of attention by far. Why do they have to target us? Maybe because they feel their progress has been on par or greater than ours but we get all the acknowledgements, I would be [censored] if I were them too but I wouldn't be displaying it the same way as them, having a sook on the radio ffs.

Hope they fold. Damn you "Terry"

I think it's funny and I welcome it.

It's like other teams hating Collingwood.

It can be actually good for publicity to be feared and hated.

Posted

fact is it has been out of us and North for a while now 'who is going to be the next to get the sword?' in the last couple of years we have come a long way which has left them with their necks on the chopping board

Wasn't just Terry I think about 7 or 8 callers followed. Everytime I listen to SEN or 3AW and they talk about Melbourne I hear some pathetic North supporter ring up and cry about there list is better than ours and why is every one pumping up Melbourne and we beat them twice last year.

Posted

Sadly I fell for it and called SEN after about the 3rd North caller last Saturday. On my to get a tattoo and jumped on the phone. Yes, yes ink me bogan now!!

Never previously have I known so many North supporters to continually call into talk back shows, a bit like many Demons there is too much silence for my liking, is there another Demon fan that listens to 3AW besides Chris? Geez!

But anytime MFC comes up there are like bees to honey at the moment. Saturday was merely a preview of the night previous and without provoking out came the Shinboners. (Can we say that here?)

Let 'em bleat. Let 'em whine. Let 'em cry.

It's music to my ears.

Feared and hated is the aim.

Hopefully the two clubs can capitalize on this, the crowd attendances at North and Melb games are lucky to hit 30,000 and if at the dome lucky to hit over 20,000. It would be great to have the Melbourne Derby, play for the Mayors Cup match day sponsered by the city of Melbourne.

We're not feared and hated yet - let's not get too carried away. It's only North getting their pants in a twist.

Their "what about me" attitude is funny though, gets a snigger from me too.

There is currently a one-way rivalry between North and demons atm, and that's the way I like it.

Demons supporters are generally confident in their team's ability to be a future premiership contender. We couldn't care less about Norf because we know we have their measure going forward.

North rate themselves as a competitor and therefore spend most of their time trying to prove they are better going forward than us.

I'd be happy if other teams feel the need to prove themselves against us.

it's mostly their fault though, our attendances are not far off AFL average despite the myths that even our own supporters carry on with

It kind of reminds me of our embarrassing obsession with beating Collingwood. And until far too recently, Fremantle's only goal in life was to beat West Coast.

I'd love to hear Dean Bailey describe our match with North this year as "their grand final" though

I have always said there is only room for one Melbourne in this city...North won't be here in 10 years and i think there supporters are starting to realize it.

They will go down kicking & screaming hard, but they will go down.

I recall that Final they played against Port Adelaide at Etihad a few years back.....25,000 turned up.

That was what did it for me.

Tomorrow night will be fiery.

We are Melbourne. They are North (of the Border) B)

Perhaps South might be a more accurate description...........

I will almost bet my balls on it...........almost!

Oh, that would be HEAVEN.

Would probably get a better turnout from the Norf supporters too.

Tassie would be a great fit i agree, but is that deal still on the table. Caroline Wilson was scathing this morning, i have no idea how close to the mark she is-But there is serious problems at Arden St.

It is only a matter of time before Tassie has a team based permanently there. Even though it is only a small population, it is a footy mad population and it is not unrealistic to think that they could have the most members of anyone in the comp given a few years and the right marketing.

I think the AFL would be loathe to make it a 19 team comp. But if north showed any sign of weakness i reckon the AFL would again give them a big push, this time south instead of north.

Yeah, it is an interesting point. I wonder if the AFL will help North again. I have my doubts, North not moving North 3 years ago pi$$ed the AFL off, not massively but enough.

The popularity of Arden st as a sport Precinct will be very interesting....Do North own it now or is it a debt (tigers) situation?

I hope tomorrow night is covered on radio....the speeches will be fire & brimstone.

Threads like this always make me uncomfortable .

I remember how the Cats had an inferiority complex against the Saints a few years ago too .

Were always whining how they deserved publicity too , our list is as good as theirs etc , etc, etc.

Don't need to tell ya what happenend there .

still wouldn't make me a north supporter....

I think North should move to Tasmania, but I would be surprised if they did.

When they only got 26,000 people to the game at Docklands against Melbourne (around half were Melbourne supporters) I knew that their supporters just didn't care. That's about 14,000 people to a Saturday afternoon game, not good enough.

"Giant Kangaroos" or Procoptodon was a genus of giant short-faced kangaroo living in Australia during the Pleistocene epoch.

Is it just me or does it amuse anyone else that GWS has chosen a name that can be used as both a noun or an adjective?

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
