A new Dawn beckons. Not to AFL' liking

Whether by intent or consequence the AFL seems perfectly happy to allow the collateral damage , as you would have it, happen.

I can quite feasibly see that the AFL was surprised with how we not only got off the floor but began to punch. I don't think this works on with their time lines .

We erased debt, attracted money , scored majorilly at the drafts. ( possibly more than Vlad and co envisioned) possibly the 3(4) best players in two drafts.!! No can't have that as the pet project suffers. Make no mistake that GWS is all but in name the AFL itself. It wants to deal cards to itself.. and is doing just that. Makes up the rules and compensations on the fly.

I think many of the sentiments expressed here are spot on. But we must fight fire with fire.

Many of us have felt over the years that an untapped resource for the MFC is their well heeled and well connected supporter base. Jimmy tapped into this with the debt demolition program. Now is the time to tap into connections. Too many surrounding the AFL think the Demons are a soft touch. Here is an opportunity to show we are not.

Cause Vlad wants the GC & GWS vying for success over the next decade , not us .

If that is the truth then that would be a total disgrace!

I actually think that the AFL would WANT the Melbourne Demons to WIN a Premiership (or a few!) seeing as we haven't won a Flag since 1964! :(

The Melbourne Demons winning a Premiership would be GOOD for Football....but I'm bias in that comment aren't I? ^_^

When you plant something you water it and tend to it.you might stake it to ensure it doesnt fall over.........sound familiar ??

GC will thrive... good species planted into fertile soil

GWS..a suspect "cutting" into a hostile environment !!!

AFL would much prefer they and especially Giants taste success..not us..They KNOW we;ll still be around now in 20 years.

After the Maggies petre off and we come into the picture there wont be much leftover for anyone in Blacktown to get terribly excited about. To then it will just be Melbourne this Melbourne that....bloody Melbourne this games all about Melbourne.

Thats what the AFL doesnt want...yet

The Afl want growth. Success/Winning a flag is just one of many factors that will encourage this growth, not the only factor (see Port Adelaide).

If the destruction of the Melbourne Football Club continues to grow the game then perhaps the OP is right.

So in essence one must ask, would the destruction of the MFC be good for the 'growth' of the game?

If it was good for the 'growth' of the game we would have gone under years ago.

I'm not advocating the destruction or demise of the Dees as being the directive . I can see how they might think we've now got all the lollies, more than we were supposed to. That 'wasn't' the plan. Help the Dees yes .. But sh!t they're looking monstrous!! Too soon .. Too soon . Runaway train!!

I seriously believe the AFL is happy to let these occurrences happen ( to any team) if it helps their PP. It just happens to be us. As another suggests possibly more a result of collateral damage .. Our Hirt is their gain. I consider , for the time being, that GWS and the AFL are the same beast. Ones wholesale the others retail ( factory outlet )

The AFL needs us but needs success out there in no mans land. We know they don't really NEED it but they've got their agenda(s) .

They're happy to facilitate reigning in the Devil-rising.

Keep in mind Port lives in. football breathing location. GWS doesn't.. It's poison air there.

I started the thread premised with the idea that this is a scenario. It is.. It's one that eerily fits and fits too well. Yes, might all be coincidental and here in-lies the relevance. How much can be put down to simple innocence of timing and circumstances and how much to actions ( or lack of ) detrimental.

Well if they need success out there in 'no man's land' they should be far more worried about Collingwood than us.

Belzebub, your posts are incredibly hard to read - can you give me synopsis minus the fluff?

In 3 lines maybe?

.

Hard to read because its the biggest load or garbage i've ever read! An undoubtedly self indulgent post with a crack pot theory to boot!

Collingwood will be there or there abouts for a few years yet but I think well be the ones primed to take over. No one has our list. It's allmost an embarrassment of richly talented under25 youth. Collingwood hasn't picked up nearly the amount weve collected over the last couple of shopping expeditions. Scully, Trengove, Watts and Jurrah just headline then theres a good handful of very likely types and another half dozen of better than fairs. They're just that little bit older and bigger than anyone at GWS.

GC have been the scallywags here. Their recruiting and manipulation of picks etc must surely be the new text-book on the subject.

GWS will have to do nearly as well if to have half a chance of not being the leagues perennial bum-wipers !!

How do they do that ? Well you just keep moving the goalposts and writing-rewriting the rules to suit. Where rules are inconsistent or unfair, ignore them. They seem to have no real salary cap as 'special provisions' keep appearing.

I'm of the opinion the AFL didn't think we'd get so many picks. But having done so feel the need to rectify that with bias towards their PP.

They can't come out and just snatch him ( however much they'd lime to ) but byselective in-action and home grown spin they'll try it covertly.

Let's just see how things play out and just how astute well have to be to defeat this adversary.

Something to add. It's , to me , despicable that any abilty for secret signings exists. What other code does this. Who does it benefit? Why the AFLs pet projects dept of course.I fully understand Roos stance and agree with it. Full disclosure applies to everyone but the AFL or it's derivatives.

I am not so sure about the Gold Coast or GWS succeeding-Look at Brisbane right now, they are a real mess.

I wonder if the AFL factored in the Lions falling apart?

I'm not sure about anything re GWS suffice heaven and hell ( and those occupants of it lol ) will be moved to help it. Brisbane is just going through a changing of the guard, history will report it as the passing over a hill not scaling any great mountain. They'll be fine, lower 8 for a few years though. GC is that precocious pest that joins a school and goes straight into the 1st 11 the senior 18 and takes out the schools best new talent colours, the pr!ck; we've all known them!!

GWS is the kid no one likes, gets bullied, even his older brother gives him sh!t and then the teachers go into affirmative action mode.

Brisbane has a legacy of success. GC will be able to fend for itself.

Giants ? Maybe in Lilliput.... But not the real world. That's why the AFL rules it's own (world) it's own way !!

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an
